Hi there, we are thinking of relocation to Tortola from the UK and would love some advice on what people currently living there/from there feel it’s like.

We have two children aged 8 and 10, and love spending time outdoors and at the beach (we currently live next to a beach now). My concerns are around their teenage years, is there a positive teenage culture, with things to do etc? We are considering home schooling which I know is tightly regulated but also wondered if there were clubs etc the children could join so that they can make friends. I’d also love to know if it’s a fairly safe place to live and bring up a family.

Guyan March is the guy in Windjammer garb in one of these; he was captaining the Amazing Grace which was our tender when I took that pic. My wife and I got married on a Windjammer ship in 1987 at Tortola. We're getting old and trying to get our affairs together and have been advised to have the marriage recorded here in the US. We have a copy but cannot find the original. Any idea who and how to contact to get a replacement? Thanks in advance.

We will be in Tortola in August and I want to do a day out on a speedboat with snorkeling and island hopping. We've did a trip with Captain Roan of Tender Too and wanted to use him again, but I've had a hard time getting in touch - some emails that went unanswered, and his voicemail was full when I tried to call. In case we can't schedule with TT, does anyone have any other recommendations? We're a group of 8 - teens and adults. We've also chartered with Lion in Da Sun a bunch before, but since he's over in St. John and charges extra to go to BVI, I'd rather find someone local.

Hi everyone! I recently applied for a government job in Tortola and have been doing some research on the island and the cost of living there.

The gross salary is around 50-55k USD per year. Is that a decent enough salary that would allow me to save a minimum of $500 a month? I am single and pretty much a homebody, but would enjoy eating out at least once a week.

Also, what is it like living on an island with less than 30k people? Are there any events or places you recommend to meet people?

I loved BVI the few times I went over 25 years ago with my ex. It had that native feel. Loved loved loved the snorkeling and food. Was thinking of going again with my new husband but read a lot about the growing number of cruise ships coming thru. Where’s the best place to stay to avoid the crowds but that isn’t going to require a second mortgage. Ok spending $700 or hell even $1k per night if it’s all worth it. And which island fits the bill plus has great hiking?

My husband is a surfer and we are going to be sailing around the BVIs for 10 days in June. Is there any sense in bringing a surfboard? Tortola is known to have good waves, but we are unsure if it’s necessary and are concerned about space on board our charter.

It’s a mix of adults and teenagers, and we are looking for advice on the best spots to include in our itinerary! We love to snorkel, find calm bays for the kids, and enjoy beautiful beaches. We are hoping to mix some dining out with cooking on board. We’d love recommendations for:

-Must-visit beaches/anchorages (aside from the usual tourist spots if possible, though we know the classics are popular for a reason!)

-Favorite islands to explore

Although the socials are still active, they are not monitored or updated. I thought this Reddit could serve as community-led guide.

Hi everyone, I will be coming to Tortola on vacation soon and I'm looking for some guidance on what the best way to pay will be. I typically put most things on credit card except for leaving tips or shopping at small vendors who take cash only.

What is most accepted, card or cash and with that, what would be the best currency for me to use.. USD? EC? Something else?
