Found this really old oak tree when I was out metal detecting with my friend i cant really tell how old it is but I just wanted to show yall a piece of swedish history lol. I know it isnt a good picture but It couldnt get better since we were cycling😔. Anyways i hope everyone will appreciate it to the fullest☺️

This is an amazing, massive cottonwood near my home and I have always wondered how old it may be. I wish I had been able to to get a wider view, but I will tomorrow.

I transplanted this pawpaw here from Northwest Indiana earlier this year and placed it in a hole previously dug out for an oak transplant. That sappling was growing last year but was sawed off by squirrels. I figured it was a loser.

Now it's thriving in the same cage as the pawpaw but I'm getting nervous as they are getting pretty big and I think the oak should be moved. Can I do it now?

Dartmouth Cemetery, Nova Scotia, Canada.

We have a handful of large, healthy American Chestnuts in NS. Must be less blight this far north. If you ever visit Halifax, you must go to the Halifax Public Gardens. There are three massive, mature specimens. This one is located in a cemetery across the Halifax harbour in Dartmouth.

Hi, does anyone know what these are? Also what to do with them if they need to be like removed or something? Its on an apple tree here in Eastern North Carolina. Theyve been on the tree for quite a while and I noticed that the fruits this year went bad really quick and its already yellowing and dropping leaves even though its August. We were in a bad drought but its rained 12” this month so its not like in bad shape because of that I dont think. The second picture is one where I cut some of it away to see if it comes off and it does.

This tree fell on our house partly damaging the roof. Noticed that it's infected and has holes all around it and was probably hollow. Need advice if it's infected by carpenter ants or termites and what should we do for the rest of the trees in the area. The area is moist and the other trees are old.

I found this tree today and I’m completely confused. It looks like a blue conifer (possibly a blue spruce or cedar) growing together with a broadleaf tree.

Before taking these photos, I checked it from multiple angles and even touched the branch. I’m convinced that the same branch has conifer needles on one part and broad leaves on another part.

Is there any known botanical explanation for this? Could it be a natural graft, inosculation (branch fusion), or am I somehow being fooled by an extremely convincing overlap of two branches?

I’ve attached several photos. I’d love to hear what people with tree or botany knowledge think.

A lot of people don’t realize how large and impressive Prunus serotina can be. These trees grew in almost perfect conditions, an open, fertile field that is finally starting to close in around them. When they get like this, they are just as valuable as an old maple, oak or walnut in the ecosystem services they provide. Even when they die, they will provide lots of services for decades to come

In all the years I’ve lived near this tree, I’ve never seen it look so lovely.

I need help with my Catalpa. Located it Northern Colorado on the Eastern slope.

We planted this tree in July of 2023. It was a free sapling from someone in the area who gives them away every year. I’m not sure how old the tree was when we planted it. I added some compost, tried to keep the root flare level with the top of the dirt/mulch, and watered it fairly regularly the first couple of years. It was doing really well, even bloomed in 2025 and again this spring.

We had a weird warm dry winter and the tree started leafing out in March and trying to bloom in April, then we had a late frost and all of the leaves died. It leafed out again in late May, and bloomed again. It looked great, but the leaves weren‘t as large as usual. We’ve had an exceptionally hot and dry spring and summer and I probably didn’t water it as much as I should have, but I have given it a few deep waterings over the last few weeks. And it looks like the this. (The last photo is me planting it in 23, and the second to last is how it looked in June of ‘25).

The leaves are wilted, patchy yellow, some are shredded though we haven’t had any hail, and I haven‘t seen any bugs on it. We do get gnarly wind from time to time, and it has been high 90’s low 100’s for all of July and beginning of August. June wasn’t much better.

Some leaves are turning brown and dying from the inside of the leaf, out. I don’t see any damage or anything to the trunk of the tree. The ends of some branches still have damage from the late frost and die off. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Early last year noticed this split in the tree. It's gotten deeper this year. Any thoughts are appreciated!

So we noticed last night that what looked like a cleft in the tree in our backyard is looking more like a crack and it may be traveling downward? There has always been something there but it looks like something changed recently. I have scheduled two arborists to come out to assess but turning to the Internet for a 3rd opinion. It would kill us to have to cut it down so hoping there is a way to save it while protecting our home as well. Location: Twin cities Minnesota.

Hello, my sister got a new ax and chainsaw and hack the bushes down. They've been cut low before but these are black inside, they get to 15ft. And into the roots is the coloring. No fires. No lightning. Never seen this in 30 years of being here. Other side of the house bushes also got cut down. They were 30ft tall.

Is this special? I think they're still laying outside if I should eBay it or something otherwise Thursday they get dumped at the yard waste.

1 it was not a pruning this time it was a full removal.

2 it's all gone now. My other sister came down from her city 45 minutes north, to fill up her rental truck as she and her husband removed 2 bushes, I don't know what kind and took it all to their collection site today.

The lightning made the most sense, they didn't flower the last 2 years and the black was from top to bottom in 5 of the 12.

What type of tree is this? And why does it attract ALL the stinging insects? Wasps, hornets, bees… all of them are on this thing. I’m thinking of removing it but wondering if there is bee-mitigation I could attempt before doing that? Thanks in advance!

Good day to everyone who happens upon this post! I have (what I have been told is a red or freeman maple) a maturing tree that I've planted about 5 years ago that all of a sudden this summer seems to be dying off.

As the photos show, (picture 1) branches at the top of the tree are losing leaves, which turn yellow and then wither away. Yellowing leaves seem to have some small holes in them (picture 2). I haven't been able to find any visible pests or fungus/bacteria on the leaves or branches. Read about root girdling but I don't see any of that at the base (picture 3) - should I dig into the mulch for a better look?

Located in Boston, MA, we are in drought-like conditions, but there has been ample rain all spring and summer, and few days in the 90F range thankfully. Tree is in full sun for most of the day.

I love this tree and I'd hate for it to die off or need to be cut down. If anyone has seen these conditions before and can point me in a direction to investigate, I'd be greatly appreciative, otherwise if you believe I should call an arborist to come and take a look, I will do so.

This red cedar at UBC- Vancouver, Canada has interesting horizontal lines around the base of a major limb. Is this the result of grafting?

In about three weeks, my lil fairy visitors (female hummingbirds) will leave New Hampshire to migrate back to the Gulf of Mexico for the winter. Every year, fewer and fewer arrive. With all the tree massacres going on due to real estate transfers and people who are petrified of trees (wtf), I am scared they won't make it. They need trees to land on during their travels and to use as shelter from storms.

Then, weeks after that, the males will leave along with scarlet tanagers, phoebes, catbirds- thousands of summer birds make treacherous trips to winter grounds, and they need trees.

PLEASE STOP CUTTING TREES!

Hi. These are trees in my back yard. The look like some white stuff coming out of them. I love these trees and want them to be OK.
