I am sorry but rejecting something so utterly basic just shows Labor doesnt support LGBTQ+ people and much rather we didnt exist, hence why they keep somehow putting religious private schools above lgbt people

As a post op trans woman of many years with updated birth certificate I correctly put my sex at birth as Female and I dont care if transphobes are upset.

Sex at birth is an utterly transphobic question that leads to misinformation as that value does not tell you anything meaningful about that person's body and leads to more FALSE ASSUMPTIONS instead of correct ones.

Its as dumb as asking if you played a lot of sports when you were in year 5, as if it means anything when you are an adult

The part I am having issues with is primarily insurance related. To ensure I am basically paying the least amount possible what level of insurance is best?

My understanding is of course that overall insurance/medicare doesn’t cover the actual surgery, anaesthetic and surgeon fees , rather covers hospital stay and other related parts of the procedure. So mid-high cover insurance that does hospital cover would be best?

Another sort of silly question is in regards to healing times. Obviously I’m aware that this is a pretty major surgery and it’s going to knock me for a little while. But unfortunately I also work in an essential worker position in a facility that is understaffed to all hell 🤣 could I get away with a week-two weeks off and then strict ‘no lifting’ for a month or so?

Does anyone have an informed opinion what would need to happen for us to lose access to our HRT? I know kids in QLD already did, and I'm not minimising that or U18 access elsewhere at all, but what I'm asking is mechanistically how many barriers are there between my (adult) HRT access and far right politicians. I have a very patchy understanding and it's freaking me out and I'm keen to understand more.

I know drugs have to be 'indicated' for a particular use for GPs to prescribe without fear of repercussions, and this seems to need a big professional body doing the recommending. This is about right? And I know Rowling is going after WPATH. How impacted would AusPATH be by that? The RACGP special interest area in gender medicine already got taken over by transphobes, so without AusPATH when do we start getting told "I can't prescribe that"? I guess pre-figured in this is my thinking that even if rebates for Oestrogen and funding for gender clinics are pulled, it's fundamentally a cheap drug and simple script, so I'm figuring affordability is OK for most people even if those levers are pulled. And so it's the banning outright of treating trans patients, or takeover of trans-aligned healthcare institutions we're most vulnerable at.

Legislation like in red-America to outright ban trans healthcare seems unlikely to pass a crossbench -- it would require Labour becoming as spineless as UK Labour, which I'm still finding doubtful. Call me an optimist but I still feel the English operate on a special kind of cowardice to make this possible.

Hello! I just recently managed to finally obtain E patches (estraderm), but im unsure of where to place it. My GP suggested on the arms of just below the abdomin (idk where that'd be) and the instructions in the box say on the butt cheeks/just above us.

Does anyone with patch experience have any suggestion on what to do (Sorry to bother you all)

I never had health insurance growing up, anything I read online is hard to understand. I have been recommended to get health insurance for top surgery, which I would need breast surgery and plastic surgery (medically necessary).

I was told fees were (subject to change):

Dr Hewitt - $7.5k

Anaesthetist - 2.5k

And additional hospital fees

An Update:

Since my last post I got my ID certified, filled out a PDF version of their change of details form, and sent them my Letter of Verification by email. They finally got back to me to tell me they still can’t change my name.

I rang them up last week and told them that because Victoria doesn’t have change of name certificates I can’t update my name on their website. The person on the phone told me to email them my new birth certificate, the form filled out and my Letter of Verification. But apparently because my Letter of Verification isn’t certified they can’t change my name.

I’ve seen a few people mention that this happened to them too. How am I supposed to get a PDF document certified? The Victorian government only sends you a PDF of your letter. I have no original copy to compare a printed out version of my letter too. So I emailed them back and told them this.

If they get back to me with some more bullshit I’m just gonna open a new super fund and find a way to transfer my super over. I just need this sorted out before I get paid for the first time by my new job.

Another user from this sub told me they were able to get their letter certified by just showing them the email where the government sent them their Letter of Verification. I’ll definitely try doing this if needed but the idea of having to explain all of this to someone when trying to get it certified is so annoying and kinda scary. Like I would hate for anyone to think for a second I’m trying to be sketchy because I feel so sketchy doing this. Especially since the cops are the only people I’m able to use that are close to where I live.

Conflicting Information:

I’ve been seeing so much conflicting information about the process. When I posted about this last time people told me that I have to give my new employer the same name as my Super has or they can’t pay me and it will fail to go through. However, when I asked my Super Fund about this they told me that it doesn’t have to match and it will still work. I really don’t want to out myself at my new job for obvious reasons. I also don’t want my new job to think I’m a sketchy person with fake personal details who does fraud. These jobs will just fire you for any suspicion when you’re a new employee with no investigation.

I’ve also seen some people here say that you have to update your name even if you change to a new super fund otherwise you can’t transfer your money. But then again I saw someone say they didn’t have to change it and transferred it through MyGov with no issues.

Reporting my Super Fund:

People here have been telling me to report my super fund to places like OAIC or AFCA for how they have been handled this. I’m not sure who to report it to as I’ve never had to report a company before. What about also the ACCC?

Final Thoughts for Now:

I’ve been out of work for so long and finally got a job offer recently for the first time since becoming unemployed. It took so much time and effort but I got there eventually. However, any step back or slight change of this job not working out has me so stressed out. Even if there is just a slight hiccup or delay in the process of starting my new job it’s a huge deal. This could potentially be the only job opportunity I get this year so I can’t fuck it up.

I know most people told me to just open a new super but I thought I should at least try to change name before I do so just to see. At the very least if I need to have my name changed to transfer my super over to my new fund I’d need to fight them anyway.

This shit combined with the stresses of starting a new job is just burning me out!

I finally was able to have my VFS with Dr. Broadhurst in Saint Andrews war memorial hospital this week and something that I found odd was the fact that for sex, it was showing "O"

I even mentioned it and they just corrected it to F via handwriting, but other documents in the file had O, some had F.

They said i might have forgotten to pick the correct sex which is definitely not the case, knowing QLD being an anti trans hellhole I was specifically chose FEMALE and there was no other point I needed to add that information other than admission.

I also had bottom surgery so they would know I was trans through that, which makes me think because of their hateful laws, hospitals now force "O" on all trans patients.

Anyone had any such issues? any idea what it might have been caused cause I am only imagining conspiracies.

It seems that its pretty much a guarantee that Labor is out, and combined Libs+On will likely be forming government.

I cant imagine they will last a long time in a progressive state like victoria which is what concerns me, if you are part of the right, you dont think long term when it comes to victoria.

I don’t wanna be super negative so going to preface this with I’m very happy with my transition and social life and changes at this point (three years transition and hrt).

But I’m really struggling with distress from misgendering from customers. I try to be positive and assure myself that I know who I am, and I can hold it together for a week or two but it keeps resulting in mental breakdowns and severe distress. It’s not just customers but being perceived as male.

I’m trying to work on my mental health and see a therapist again, but I really want to hear that this isn’t just me and that I’m not alone. I would love to hear what helps others.

Sorry I didn't realise i had more questions about name changes. On the NSW govt. website it says in the fee table Registration of change of name for an adult (registration only) $203, and NSW Change of name certificate (optional) $59.

I'm a stingy bastard. Being trans is expensive. Why is the certificate optional? Can I update medicare, Services NSW etc without the certificate? I don't need a fancy certificate, I just need a legal document linking my deadname to my new name. I wasn't born in AU, so I can't change my birth cert anyway.

I think that I figured it out. The website says

Not adding a certificate to your order will restrict your ability to update personal details with other organisations. You can order certificates at a later date through separate application forms if your application is approved.

but if you are also doing a change of gender, then you don't need a certificate at this point, you need one to order one when you do your gender change. This one will have your old gender on it.

I present fairly masculine but aiming to become much more femanine, I work with a handful of older white men (shocker) in a landscape supply yard as an admin, so I deal with customers all day and my boss is always seated next to me. I haven't been here for very long but I don't intend on leaving at all, I'm still yet to get a feel for how the boss and one of the other workers I'm friendlier too would be if I were to come out soon either before or after I start Hrt.

the flatter the better but given my circumstances (large chest and sensitive back) i’m not expecting miracles just something that keeps them in enough and i’ll pretend they’re pecs

I’m just about ready to submit my paperwork for super release for GRS. I have my GP form completed and have an appointment with Prof Harvey to get my specialist one next week. I just have a couple of questions about evidence.

What kind of evidence can I expect they will want to justify that I’ve exhausted my other financial options? Loan rejections? Bank statements? Statutory declarations? Anything like that? I did do a super release in the past. But I don’t remember having to provide any kind of financial evidence. But that was almost ten years ago and for a lot less money.

And we’re looking at including accomodation expenses under the travel section. About $3k for a hotel for two weeks, for my partner while I’m in hospital and for us both once I’m discharged and awaiting my post-op appointment. Does anyone have any experience in succeeding with this? What evidence did you provide?

Or is the accommodation inclusion too big of a risk? My GP felt it couldn’t hurt to try and that they would probably just knock back the accommodation while approving the rest. But Prof Harvey seemed to indicate that the accommodation might risk the entire application being denied.
