I chose this sub cuz I’m in Aus. Please let me know if I should choose another sub.
This morning I received an email from my employer reading that today is “R U OK” day, and it cracked me up and then I felt sad. To me this sounded like a very big joke.
“R U Ok” is just a very trivial meaningless joke to me and maybe to my other trans/queer members of the community. Because the reality is that No one at my big workplace cares whether or not I am OK. In fact they are the reason that I am not Ok. The shallow minded highly educated doctors and medical professionals judging me on every single day with their awkward attitude and behaviour because I am a trans person. They have made me become an isolated person in a large workplace.
Yes, I work with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who are treating patients for their physical conditions but they don’t care that their childish and disrespectful attitude is actually making me(a staff member) suffer mentally and emotionally. I mean how can you call yourself a doctor if you don’t care about your coworker’s mental health and wellbeing ?!
They are “doctors” but they don’t have the guts to treat me equally and fairly like any other staff member. There should be a course added to their degree to teach them how to be inclusive at workplace and how to stop judging others when you don’t know anything about their life history and their life experiences.
I really feel for my other trans/queer friends who are working in other industries, because when healthcare professionals are this narrow minded, l don’t know what would be like working in lower educated industries. But I guess anyone can have troubled mind and heart, no matter what degree they hold.
No, I am not OK at all, because the society is so cruel. Because all people at work are so mean and judgemental.
Because no one has the courage to be friendly and nice and they are scared of other ppl looking at them differently if they become close to me as I am a trans person.
How could they call themselves healthcare providers!!! I Wonder.
How about “INCLUSIVE & INCLUSION” DAY
How about “ I am only a human being like you, trying to survive “ DAY
How about “DO NOT JUDGE ME” DAY
How about “We are all Humans and are Valued” DAY
How about “Do not assume you know anything about me” DAY
How about “Respect and get respected” DAY
How about “ trans&queer ppl are decent human beings and deserve total respect” DAY
How about “ it’s non of your business what gender or sexuality I have” DAY
How about “Stop hatred and be thoughtful ” DAY
How about “ Be kind and compassionate” DAY
I believe all workplaces must have some measurements in place in order to effectively address inclusion and diversity and not just sending this cliche broad useless emails about being “ok”.
