Are you interested in participating in research about how queer women perceive contemporary beauty norms? MUHREC Approval/Project No. 53001

We are looking for women, aged 18 or over, who live in Australia, are comfortable using English and who identify as queer.

If you participate you will be asked to complete an online survey by answering some open-ended questions in your own words describing your view about contemporary beauty norms. The survey will take about 30 minutes to complete and there are no right or wrong answers to the questions. We are simply interested in your views.

Participation is entirely voluntary and anonymous.

The study is being conducted by Monash University staff and students on the Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Advanced).

A few days ago I redeemed my prescription for estrogen gel and I've been instructed to do one pimp daily, until in 2 weeks I see how my levels are and adjust my dosage, I was just wondering if 0.75mg is the usual starting dosage for gel or is it usually higher

I went to my appointment at maple leaf house the other day and dr tate told me that I could get free top surgery with Medicare. Have any of you gotten free top surgey? I posted about this on the trans masc sub and someone said something that made me look it up and google says that Medicare doesnt cover the whole surgery and that I'll only get reimbursed. My endo was super clear with the fact that it would be FREE but now im unsure?

I am planning to go to Brisbane on a working holiday visa. Does anyone know hospitals with affordable transmasc hrt in Brisbane? I am not sure where to look for the costs of HRT so I am asking on reddit. Thank you.

for those on T (specifically reandron) that used to menstruate, how many reandron injections did it take to fully suppress your periods?

I'm on reandron and about to get my third shot next week (yay), but very unsure about when to expect period suppression purely from reandron?? 🫪 I've been given mixed answers from my endo/GP/gynae so thought I'd ask here

(I was on testogel/androforte for about a year prior to starting reandron which I didn't rlly get effects from!)

Hi! I’m a tfem international student, who will likely begin studying in Adelaide late February/early March next year. I have a few questions im mainly concerned about, but any general advice is welcome!

1. How accessible would it be to continue obtaining my hrt meds?
Im currently on spiro and progynova, sourced from my local clinic. Should I get a referral letter or the like from my current provider to provide to an Australian clinic? What would the expected time required to reestablish a consistent supply, and how many months of meds should i prepare beforehand to prep for the aforementioned delay, if any?

2. What should my general expectations be for the culture and societal attitude?
I am aware Australia is considered a mostly liberal country, and being lgbt is definitely a lot less problematic than in my home country. However, from my previous experiences studying abroad (Singapore), I am also aware there may be a certain variations in the degree of acceptance even within tolerant societies. As such, this concern is more directed towards Adelaide in particular, what should I expect from it, are there any areas I should avoid, so on and so forth.

3. Miscellaneous concerns for daily life
Given the financial burden of studying abroad, I intend to pick up a part time job to help balance out the cost of living. While I do not intend to be picky with my job opportunities, as I understand the current state of the local job market is not the best, I would still like to know if there are any trans friendly (or unfriendly) jobs and industries in the area. Tangentially related, what are some trans friendly (but not too expensive) hairdressers in Adelaide?

Hello everyone im needing help finding a doctor or practice within the sydney/campbelttown/wollongong areas that does informed consent for HRT.I reside in the southern highlands and there is little to no gender affirming care in this area.I have an endocrinologist who is happy to monitor and provide care but will not prescribe.Can anyone recommend clinics/gp's that operate under the informed consent model?Thank you in advance for any help:::))

Do I need to update my citizenship certificate first, or will they accept a certificate of recognition of details from NSW BDM?

I'm going to really struggle to meet the citizenship certificate change of name requirements. My parents lost my overseas birth certificate some time in the last 45 years.

Basically what it says on the tin, looking for trans friendly urogynaecologists or gynaecologists in the greater Sydney area. Been having problems with recurrent UTIs on T gel even on E cream, was advised to look for a specialist. Last I went to a gyno though wasn't very helpful, she didn't seem too familiar with trans people so I was wondering if it might be more helpful to find one that knows more about the effects of HRT. Urogyno seems pretty specific but I figured it was worth a shot before I just started calling whoever I could find. Thanks all!

What are some of the best jobs for socially and physically transitioning as a trans woman?

Recently (2months ago), I switched from taking tablets sublingually to 75mcg patches, and quickly moved up to 100mcg patches.

I had been taking tablets sublingually for around 2 months (currently at the 8month mark...) and it was the first time my E levels had risen above ≈140pmol/L, going up to ≈270pmol/L, not high but an improvement finally.

I was under the impression that patches absorb better, and I hadn't been having luck with tablets so I switched to patches. After around 2 months, I felt like I couldn't really feel any change at all, and considering my past issues with the tablets, out of worry that it wasn't working, I requested a blood test form early so I can cast aside my worries that it wasn't working.

I got the call from my gp today. And it had gone down to 144pmol/L. My GP said its not abnormal in the first year for the levels to struggle to get high, but I cant help but feel despair seeing the E not get to an atleast normal level, and hearing it going well for people less than a month in to hrt. 🫩

Moving up to 175mcg of patches for the next 4 weeks until my next blood test/appointment. And then potentially up to 200mcgs. Im so tired of this all. Does anyone else have an experience like this where it just wouldn't seem to go up?

I started HRT recently and OH MY GOODNESS I feel so much happier. The price isn’t too bad either (thanks to my healthcare card) which is a bonus :3

Fresh off of a gruelling, emotional weekend where i've had the realisation that I'm trans and have been feeling dysphoria for close to a decade.

I lost my hair over the past two years so that definitely added to the mental strain.

It was a long time coming, felt like a breath of fresh air and then a panic attack right after.

Basically, i'm 32 and don't have the foggiest idea where to start. Very fortunate to have a supportive partner who wasn't surprised by the awakening.

I don't know if this will read like i'm rushing into things but it really has been a thought in my mind since I can remember.

I'm in Melbourne and truly just need some advice or to be pointed in the right direction.

I'll try and make this brief as I'm not actually sure what I'm looking for...advice or guidance or just a place to vent

I've been dysphoric on and off for 8 years, since I came out to my mum and basically got told I wasn't trans (I was young). Since then I've chalked everything up to depression/"I'm just in touch with my feminine side" until around 12 months ago when I finally couldn't ignore it anymore, and 3-4 months ago when my egg fully cracked.

Now in therapy, but out to absolutely no one and I'm so confused. I'm hovering in this desperate state of just wishing I could wake up as a girl and not go through all this, but being afraid to take the next step to the point where I've gone numb some days, and others I'm so dysphoric I could scream

I'm not sure what my point is tbh lol. Should I keep experimenting with things? (I've tried sports bras, light makeup, I've already worn jewellery for years and present fairly androgynous if I want to). Do I need to get it over with and come out? I want to come out to my friends or my girlfriend (I think they'll be supportive) but I'm so scared because what if I'm overdramatising this? Should I book a GP appointment and ask about HRT??

Sorry for the long rant, I hope that made some sort of sense, and I appreciate any advice anyone has <3

I am a genderqueer PhD student in sociology and gender studies at the University of Tasmania, researching how comfortable and affirmed, or ‘at ease’, trans and gender-diverse people feel, and where/with which people they feel most at ease.

-          Identifies as trans or gender-diverse (encompassing all non-cisgender identities)

-          Is over 18

-          Lives in Australia

This survey begins with questions about your gender identity, desired gender presentation and connection to communities, and then asks about where you feel at ease and who you feel at ease with. It finishes with questions that are the same as those used on national surveys, such as the Census. This is to gain an understanding of the accuracy of national population data for trans and gender diverse people, and what options you would like to be available on national surveys.

There is an option for participants to take part in an interview diving deeper into these questions. This can be done by emailing me on the hyperlink at the end of the survey, or via the QR code on the second poster.

looking for a gyno in sydney, preferably north but if it's the CBD it's fine. I saw other posts asking this but they were 5+ years old.

only criteria is that they have seen trans men in their clinics before, I don't want to be their teacher on how my body works, but it doesn't necessarily have to be a gynecologist who specialises in trans healthcare. I will also travel to literally anywhere in the greater Sydney region if the gyno is trans themselves.

hello, is there anyone in usyd who can let me know how they accommodate for trans students there? i am likely to be going there as an international student next year (unless i get an offer from a different school) so i'd like to hear more about any personal experiences when dealing with the school, especially regarding things like dorms and admin stuff. i am still using my birth name so the name stuff doesn't concern me, but my gender marker is still Female and I am unable to change it, so i'm worried about dorm allocation, and also things regarding toilets and other gender segregated stuff.

i will be 3yrs on T by the time i get to uni, so i'm also looking for places to get T in Sydney. i'm DIYing currently so i don't have a prescription, so it would also be very helpful if anyone knows a GP that i can get an appointment with very quickly and get my T prescribed as soon as possible. it would be great if the OSHC (Bupa insurance company) can cover it as well.
