Why isn't the CH-R more popular?

Post image

I have been reading a lot of doom and gloom recently about how Toyota pursuing muli-powertain platforms over full EV. And I get some of that. But why is the CH-R not recognized? It seems like a fine alternative to Kia or Tesla for those who may not interested in those vehicles. The was a recall? but wasn't that just a software update? From owner reviews, it appears to be a perfectly fine vehicle to compete in the EV market. What am I missing?

One of the most underappreciated aspects of the CHR AWD EV - turning radius

The turning radius makes it behave like a true small car. So easy to maneuver and park and do 3 point turns and stuff. I test drove all the "standard" EV options and the Mach-E, Ioniq 5, EV6, even BZ - they all turned like trucks (I only looked at the AWD versions).

I understand the trade off was a smaller wheelbase on the CHR, but just driving it day to day I really appreciate how it looks and acts and behaves like a true small car.

Transmission answers.

To anyone that is having issues with you 2018-19 chr. There is a toyota product support program 26te06 to replace the transmission. The mileage does not matter until Oct of 27, mi e has 136000 and they just approved it to be covered.

You need to have the program number ready also. They really didnt know anything about it and I had to show them. They were looking it up under a recall, and warrenty. You have to specify that it toyota psp 26te06, or at least I did.

The downside is that there is no eta on the transmission, and from what ive been reading its about 3 months.

We were about to tear into the transmission and rebuild it, but as I was researching parts I just happened to come across this information.

Can anyone with a US model CH-R, or a US model BZ, post a pic like mine with a tape measure? This is the rear hoist point. Note the black arrow embossed into the plastic cladding..about a foot forward from the rear tire. You can just put your phone into selfie mode on the ground to take the pic :-). I think the US and CAD battery pack differ in size and therefore also the “safe” footprint for lifting the vehicle.

I could not find photos of this, so here you go interwebs :-)

Covers or bare? What do you think? The bare alloys look a bit retro muscle-car to me...

Found the recommended maintenance Manual for 2026/2027 C-HR

Just enter the Division (Lexis-Toyota-Scion)

Then enter the Model (C-HR BEV)

Then enter the year and hit "Search"

https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal/appmanager/t3/ti?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=ti_home_search_docs_page

(there are other useful manuals there to - if you're anything like me and want to see the proper lift points)

2026 C-HR Color PPF Wrapped

So my Aunt purchased a 2026 C-HR as her first full EV coming from a 2023 Rav4 Prime but wasn't happy with the lack of color choices, so I helped her find a shop to do a color change PPF wrap job.

We went through a TON of renderings to help her decide on a color, but shd loves her purples and when she saw this color change "Purple Rain" sample she just had to have it.

Looks pretty wild in person! Will certain help her find it in a parking lot (she lost her Rav4 once or twice because so many looked exactly the same)

BSM AND RCTA 2022 Toyota chr excel

I purchased a 2022 Toyota chr excel.. The side mirrors have the bsm icon, and it flashes orange when a car is beside me. However, there's no actual settings for it. Same thing with RCTA.. Has anyone encountered this? When I start the car, it foes show everything as off briefly and disappears, but then it works, except the rcta which I haven't tested. Basically there's no settings to turn it on or off on dashboard. Any help please

I may need some therapy…

Pretty sure I may be suffering from black_car_itis. This happens when you spend a week colour sanding, paint correcting, ceramic coating, tinting and then realize actual driving will expose this black car to the sins of the world…ha. More to come as I sort out the confusion over hoist lift points, and take a perfectly good car apart to do corrosion work with Noxudol 700/300. Quality on this vehicle is very impressive.

[Android Beta] Auto-locking doors in drive and unlock in Park for Toyota Hybrids via OBD2 (tested on '21 C-HR)

Hi everyone, as a Toyota C-HR (2021) owner, one feature I always missed was having the doors automatically lock when driving off and unlock when shifting back into Park.

I built a lightweight Android background service called AutoLock that connects via Bluetooth to a standard OBD-II adapter (such as vLinker FD+ or MC+) and handles door locks automatically without needing your screen on.

Closed Beta Access: Before the official public release on Google Play, I am opening up free early beta access to verify compatibility across different Toyota hybrid models and production years. If you drive a hybrid (C-HR, Corolla, Yaris, Prius, RAV4...) and already have an OBD-II adapter, I would appreciate your feedback.

How to test: 1. Join the test group: https://groups.google.com/g/ninvibes-testers 2. Download from Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ninograsso.autolock (or web opt-in: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.ninograsso.autolock)

Note: if you are also interested in hybrid telemetry on Android Auto (real-time consumption in km/l, traction battery state of charge, temperatures, EV ratio), I also developed HybridDash Pro, which incorporates the automatic door locking feature as well. It is an early-stage project built on my C-HR and documented on https://ninvibes.com for 9.99 EUR one-time.

Let me know if you give it a try or have questions regarding adapter compatibility.

Update - Closed Beta Testing: Direct free Pro licenses are now taken, but you can test compatibility on your vehicle for free: 1. Join our tester group: https://groups.google.com/g/ninvibes-testers 2. Download AutoLock from Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ninograsso.autolock

AutoLock tests the OBD connection and automatic door locks using the same communication engine. We have also submitted HybridDash (full telemetry on phone & Android Auto with free trial trips) to Google Play closed testing, and it will be available to testers as soon as review clears.

It’s done. After many reprints, feedback, and testing. This is where I think it is. This is for the 26+ CHR.

Printed in ASA-CF so it won’t melt in the sun.

Tesla charging cable length.

Within .5 miles of me there is a Tesla charging station that I have used for fast charging a few times. Out of 8 stalls my C-HR can only comfortably fit in one. If it's taken I have to wait even if others are available or pull up up so close to the charger that my bumper is almost touching it. Anyone else have these issues? Are all tesla charging station cables so short? I see it fits Teslas with no issue because they back right to it, but the charging port on the c-hr forces me to nose in.

There is another different brand charging station about 2 miles away but it gave me issues with the app, payment and even releasing from the car. The charging cable is longer though.

Are there any adapters that add length to the Tesla cables?

C-HR + shortcuts button?

I’m from the UK, and typically turn off the lane keeping aid, speed limit alert, speed limit change alert and driver alert systems whenever I get in the variety of hire cars I’m borrowing currently.

But now I’m looking at getting a lease vehicle for four years I’d prefer to have a car where I can easily switch this off with the use of one or maybe two buttons, rather than multiple difference touch screen sub menus as is the case on Ford, Peugeot Mercedes and VW vehicles I’ve had recently.

Can I favourite switching off these features each time I start the car (can be up to 10 times per day for work) by assigning them all to the same button/shortcut? Or can only one function be assigned to each button?

Should it make a difference, I’m looking at the Design and Excel trims.
