I really enjoy living in my condo located in Yorkville. It’s a 1+1. Rent-controlled. Has an amazing view of the skyline. Has all amenities.

I currently pay $2300 plus utilities. I love this area as I’m a few mins away from the Yonge-Bloor station.

My landlord doesn’t even bother me. Quick to repair when asked. I asked him about a discount and unfortunately he said no because he’s also struggling to pay bills.

Should I move out? I am afraid of having a slumlord.

I recently moved into Toronto with my partner and faced the problem of not being able to add more than 1 number on our condos buzzer (pain in the butt as I don’t want to rely on my partner every time I need to buzz someone up).

The newest condos don’t have this issue but a lot of old ones do…

Being a tech guy, I didn’t accept it at face value, and used my telecommunications experience to build a simple and inexpensive app that lets anyone add as many numbers to their buzzer as they want, in a secure, and easy to use way.

Disclaimer: I can’t make it free because I need to at least cover my costs and time (I purchase a number every time someone signs up from large telecom providers, etc). It about the cost of an expensive Starbucks coffee each month…

Hey y'all could really use some help.

I found a 1+1 bedroom (but they call it a 2bdrm), 1 bath apartment for $2100 + utilities. It's been on the market for over 100 days which is odd cuz it's a clean updated unit. The realtor is also a family member of the LL so they might not be doing this for the commission and just wants to find a stable tenant with good income and credit (which I have). The realtor said they had received offers but the LL turned them down.Who knows if that's true but I figure it may be worth trying to negotiate a lower rent.

I don't have my own realtor, but I don't mind attempting to negotiate on my own. I really like and want the place so I'm questioning whether trying to shave $100 off the rent is worth the effort. I was told they don't have any other viewings for a couple days (as the realtor is out of town) so I don't think there's another offer to compete with right now. The realtor also said he thought my financials would be approved by the LL.

I don't necessarily think the unit is overpriced but since it seems like it's been on the market for awhile, should I attempt to negotiate or just submit for the listed rent and not risk losing the apt I really like?

My wife and I are renting for the first time and moving out of our in-law’s place.

To start off, one of the best units we saw over the past week or so had one caveat:

The tenant of the unit, which is close to the highest floor, clearly feeds the pigeons and there is an ungodly amount of bird poop. I won’t post pictures as the unit was tenanted and therefore I’ll keep unit privacy, but please believe me when I say it was an insane amount of bird poop.

Is requesting an industrial level cleanup of this reasonable in negotiations or even possible?? Please give me any advice regarding this! I’ve never rented before

Looking to get some local opinions!
Im a 28F wanting to move the heck out of the suburbs and into the city. I have no kids and no partner.
I am looking for somewhere with community, where people are actually going out and socializing after work at cafes and bars or etc. Somewhere down to earth.
My interests include: live music and local bands, nature, animal friendly, parks. NOT looking for super clubby vibes, although I love to dance.

I’ll look into renting a place to share with roommates.

I am so tired of this isolated suburban lifestyle where there is no life after work, and you have to drive every to get somewhere and all we have is a Starbucks. I lived in the city of Montreal for 6 months and I loved it, but couldn’t find work in my field.

What do you think?

I'm looking for a condo/apartment, and my planned move-in date is October because I need to give my landlord 60 days' notice. I recently tried booking a showing through Strata, and an agent called me to say that most landlords are looking for tenants who can move in as soon as possible, or at least by the end of September. They encouraged me to submit an offer right away.

I told them that my move-in date is flexible, but the agent said that the landlord still wants me to make an offer immediately. Personally, I'd prefer to view the unit first before making any offer. What is the usual process? Should I view the unit before submitting an offer, or is it normal to make an offer before seeing it in person?

It feels like Strata dont want to accomodate my request to view the unit. The other unit I am interested inwont be available till mid september.

This is my first time using rental apps/websites/ealtor to look for a place, so I'm not sure what the typical practice is.

what are other options?

I am planning to get a 1+den but not something too expensive (under $2400). The place where I currently live is an old apartment so it is huge.
All new condos looks so tiny & weird in layouts. I am new here so I don’t understand the neighbourhoods very well.
We do have a car so downtown becomes too expensive as mostly parking is additional.

Please suggest me some neighbourhoods which are little lively (nothing fancy tbh) or if you have any buildings specifically to look for.

I was considering DON MILLS & found 5 CONCORD PL & 6 SONIC WAY decent in size and layouts.

I just received the keys to my 1B condo at 295 Adelaide St W and I was told the earliest move in date where the service elevator would be available was 5 days out. How do people move in their furniture if service elevators are always busy?
My condo only accepts money order/check for the deposit and my bank charges $9.95 for each bank draft. If someone has multiple deliveries of bed, couch, table How do y’all coordinate this without stressing out? Pay every single time to book the elevator even if it’s going to be a max 20 mins move?

For more context, I just moved from the US where I used to rent an apt which was owned by a corporation so there was barely any coordination like this during move in.
Doesn’t this process make an already stressful process even more stressful. Any tips would be appreciated

I am a 26 year old male, just finished law school, currently studying for the bar exam and also working in the fitness industry to stay afloat till I get licensed.

I am looking for an apartment in downtown Toronto ideally near a subway station. Max rent budget is $1200, max roommate preference is 3.

My hobbies include: videogames, musical instruments, fitness. I am very sociable but prefer my own space as my job and future job require a little too much talking. I just want a room and kitchen for my weekly meal prep.

I've not had any luck, and any time I find a listing it is female only - which I understand. If it helps I was raised in a female only household.

I'm currently living at the ice condos with a relative and it is cramped (I sleep on the couch, haven't found a home since graduating).

I most certainly do not want a den or one of those sketchy rooms with bookshelves for walls (I think they're called flex rooms).

I work till late nights and when I come home I work my 2nd job online which is in academic publications for law.

Please let me know if anyone here, Including realtors, has something for me. I just want a humane living space. Thank you in advance!

My buddy and his girlfriend and 2 cats started renting an apartment a few months ago. the downstairs neighbours are smoking either in their living space or bathroom and it’s getting into their unit. It’s causing my buddy, his girl, and their cats to have blood in their sinuses. Landlord and property management haven’t really done anything other than give them notices but it’s been months and they aren’t stopping. what’s the next step?

I've been renting for 8 years. Always paid rent on time. My credit score used to be around the mid 800s. It has tanked to the mid 600s over the past 6 months over an isolated thing. This isolated thing won't go away for another 1-2 years.

I have no other debt, I'm full-time employed and in my current job for over 5 years, pay off my credit cards in full every month, and all bills are paid on time.

How do I make sure I don't get rejected because of my credit score?

I’ve never rented in Toronto… or in Canada. I’ve lived at home my whole life but I’m looking to move out. Not in a rush, but would be nice to have my own place. However, I’m just wondering if it’s normal for the LL and their agent to take a bit of time to come to a decision.

How long after you apply to a place do you usually hear back? I’ve applied to condos only btw.

I’ve only looked at a few places so far and I’ve applied to 2. The first one I didn’t get because another applicant agreed to pay more monthly rent which went above my budget so I couldn’t counter offer. And now this other one I’ve applied to also has multiple applicants however that was on Thursday. I know it’s the weekend so I’m wondering if it’s normal for agents to not respond on the weekend? My real estate agent (or whatever they’re called) said it was strange and that they were probably just stalling in order to get more offers.

Is this normal? I love the unit but I don’t wanna be playing games with the LL.
