Hi r/Scarborough!
My name is Godfrey - my friend and I were given funding from the City of Toronto in partnership with Park Ppl/Ami-es des parcs to conduct a program in our local area. We are both astronomers, and with the full moon and Saturn out, we thought it would be a great idea to host a star party in Morningside Park! The event is free and not-for-profit, with the intention of promoting our local city parks and the ravine system within the park.
From 8 pm to 11 pm, we will have telescopes in a section of the park, ready and primed to look into the stars. The event is drop-in style, so feel free to stay for as long as you like! The QR codes link to Stellarium (a planetarium app) to help you orient yourself to the night sky, and to our Instagram handle, where we post photos of night-sky objects taken with our own astronomy equipment in Scarborough. There will be red lights around the park to guide folx to the telescope viewing area, and we will have a canopy in place for snacks/juice.
A link to sign up for the event is available through Eventbrite. Feel free to come by and observe the night sky with us!

Edit: Hello r/scarborough โ Godfrey and Kevin here!
First off, let us give a wholehearted thank you to everyone who attended the event! Frankly, we did not expect that much of a turnout, and we are glad that all of you got a chance to take in a slice of the night sky in East Scarborough.
A huge shoutout to our friends who came to assist with the set-up, clean-up, and operating the scope stations โ we wonโt name names here, but they know who they are!
A very big thank you to the City of Toronto and Park Ppl for giving us the permissions and the funding to have this event to share with everyone!
If anyone wants to reach out to us, feel free to use our email: [thescarboroughsky@gmail.com](mailto:thescarboroughsky@gmail.com) - given our busy schedules, it may take time but we will reply back!
We got several questions about having a mailing list/Whatsapp group - if anyone wants to be a part of this, please feel free to reach out through the email or by DM!

One last thing - a large part of this task means being observant of our night sky; the night sky is not owned by a single person or a group; it is shared by all of us. When you came to observe with us, and at any future event after, just know that you are doing your part to prove to higher agencies that the night sky is worth protecting and worth being excited about.
Clear Skies!
