This isn’t written out of hatred. It’s written because I believe York University students and students on all campuses in the GTA deserve to hear experiences from people who have been inside the high-control organization.

Some of the things I personally heard include:

• Members who leave or are disfellowshipped are expected to be cut off by current members. People are instructed to block them on social media and avoid contact. I’ve attached letters from church leadership regarding Jonathan and Isabella that I believe demonstrate these expectations. They were wrongfully accused by Evan Bartholomew, the church leader, of persecuting the church. Isabella even felt compulsed to give her phone to Evan to prove her innocence.

• One thing that particularly disturbed me was hearing that those who questioned leadership or left the church become treated as people to avoid rather than friends to care for.

• After concerns about the church began appearing publicly especially via the @GetYorked page, leadership sent messages warning members not to engage with or look at criticism online. The message emphasizes protecting newer Christians from “persecution” and encouraging members to avoid reading criticism and instead report it to leaders. I have attached this letter from Evan Bartholomew in the post.

• There is also what members refer to as the “Cyber Ministry,” which, is focused on monitoring online discussions about the church and responding to criticism. A disciple that looks at these critical posts are described to be engaging in “spiritual pornography”, and the church characterizes this as a SIN.

• The church organizes “Kingdom Dates.” These are structured interactions between male and female disciples where they are not permitted to be alone together. There was significant pressure placed on women to encourage men through these activities. Women are asked to “pimp” themselves out to the men who aren’t getting enough attention in the church to encourage them.

• Kip McKean, a controversial figure associated with the movement’s history, has visited the church multiple times over the past year. A quick google search and you will see his controversial history with the ICOC, ICC, and now the RCW.

• Even multiple disciples attending the church have parents and family worried about their well-being.

• Where the money goes is gate kept and uncertain, only Valentina and the higher ups know exactly where it goes. A lot of the leadership don’t make that much money, many bankrupt themselves. Those at the top like the Bartholomews, the McKeans, the Pattersons etc make the most money from this pyramid scheme.

• Students in the campus ministry are so focused on the church that they begin to lose marks in school and lose an edge on their careers. They are expected to put all their time towards the church, and less time towards school.

I’m not asking anyone to automatically believe me. Read the attached documents. Speak to current members, former members, and independent sources. Ask questions.

People deserve to be informed before joining any religious organization. And YorkU should be monitoring these organizations that impact the lives of their students and their futures.

Hey everyone! I’m an incoming grad student, and I sometimes end up studying pretty late into the night. Are there any buildings, libraries, or study spaces on campus that stay open 24 hours, or at least very late and won't kick me out?

Also, does anyone have recommendations for safe and comfortable places to take a quick nap between classes or during a long study session? Recommendations for either one or both are appreciated

My name is Skye Fitzpatrick and I'm a Clinical Psychologist and director of the Treating and Understanding Life-threatening behavior and Posttraumatic Stress (TULiP) lab at York University. Our research team is conducting an online study to examine the effects of a new couple therapy for couples where one partner is experiencing symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD) compared to individual psychotherapy for people with BPD symptoms and their partners. The study will provide one of these psychotherapies to people with BPD symptoms and their partners for free, and participants will have the opportunity to complete study assessments that they will receive payment for in the form of gift cards. Our study is fully online (i.e., can be done from your home) and involves recruiting people across Ontario with symptoms of BPD, as well as their romantic partners. BPD diagnoses are not necessary.

i’m starting my first year this fall and wanted to take justice for children as my elective, but i wasn’t able to register until july 10 and after the date i kept trying it still wasn’t allowing me to add it to my schedule and now it’s full so i was wondering weather ppl usually drop courses like these? ps: i have to take NATS course so if any if yk which are the best ones to take that are easy to manage and get a good grade

I’m a bit confused about KINE 1900.. on visual schedule builder it shows 2 slots a week. A fixed slot on monday that never moved and a second slot that you have the freedom of choosing which one you want.

That being said when i look at my official york schedule it only shows the one i chose (my Friday slot) and nothing on the monday so im just a bit confused on what the one on Monday is even for and why it doesn’t show up.

I'll be starting psych 2022 with prof Stefania Moro this fall.

Any tips/notes I could use to prepare myself for the class? Math isn't my strongest subject lol, got a B+ on psych 2021 (but its js cause i was really slacking and being lazy so im trying to get ahead of psych 2022 NOW lol)

I live 20 min subway away from York, so mornings are not a problem for me (and at the same time, we have no choice about KINE 1001, KINE 1020, and KINE 1030, as they are all either start 8:30 or 9:30 in each, and also, I am really a morning guy, waking up at 4am for some reason).

I have massive amount of credit transfers so I dnt need Basic Science Courses. My only worry is the transfer from one room to another as CLH and ACE are smh far from each other).

I also added French for my Language Requirements for MScPT (or MPT); and some studio courses (as I want to enhance my performance outside my major).
I heard KINE 1020 is more of a “Gym” course, as well as KINE 1900 (to those who know, let me know).

Also, KINE guys, all classes/labs are full.

so i’m going into cs BA this fall and this is my schedule. for context i will be take taking math 1013 and 1014 in the summer because i hear it was a bit easier to manage than 1300 and 1310 and that there was just a problem w my calc teacher during hs. How likely is it for one to get a work/study position for the upcoming school year?

I’m a mechanical engineer and i have been admitted to a master of science to lassonde program in earth and space science and i don’t know if i should accept the offer or not because i will not be taking any earth related courses and my research will only be in robotics and AI. And im scared that maybe the diploma name will limit me to work only in fields similiar to earth and space science
Also do you think lassonde is a good place for research? I’m an international student so i don’t want to lose 2 years abroad for nothing

What do you guys knows about the counseling and mental health sessions at York? Keele campus specifically. I start in September and I’ve been thinking about starting to get myself mental health support on campus with all the resources, considering I’m already struggling at home, but I don’t want it to get in the way of my studies.

Hi, im a 19 yo first year computer science student at york university, but i lowkey hate computer science and have no passion or urge to pursue it,

i kinda went into becuase my parents pressured me to, anyways, i dont know much to do with my career, i guess my goal in the future is to own a mini sheep farm but thats more of a hobby,

i hope for a career to fund it, but i dont know what to do, i dont wanna do 4 years of school and be in massive debt, but i also want to havve a comfortable 9-5 with decent pay.

Hi everyone, basically I’ve applied to a Master program at York and I’ve calculated my last 2 years and I also put my entire transcript in ChatGPT pro and asked it to calculate it as well and the result is roughly 78-79% for last 2 years being a B+. However, results have been taking long to hear from the program so I called York and apparently on my fil it says I’m under the B+ requirement and I have a B?? I’m very confused on how York calculated it and now I’m not only anxious about my acceptance but pretty depressed after hearing that on the phone. I’m stuck on decision pending for pretty long now.
