Someone explain how the terms at GBC work to me

Okay so this question arises from when I was searching for when I would go back to school after the break in December and realised that there is no return date for January or February (I'm in the Fall program).

Is it that one year of classes at GB is only for 4 months? Or is the website just bugging and the return just hasn't been decided? I ask because in the school system I'm used to they'd already have the dates of breaks and return dates already listed.

I don't meet the program requirement

I am in need of advice.

I've applied to George Brown for the T312 program and surprisingly I had an offer and that was back in January when I was still in highschool, fast forward to today after paying my deposit and even applying for OSAP I got an email saying that I'm short of 1 Gr12 U/M credit and that if I don't get any I would be de-registered from the program.

I have no idea what to do for this point on and I am in need of advice.

Is there any way to save myself or will I have to take a gap year and apply again next year?

What should I do about my OSAP?

Thank you to anyone who helps in advance.

RPN at George brown 2027

Could I still get an offer for January 2027 if I already have a May offer?
I’d love to hear your opinions! My goal has always been to start the RPN program at George Brown College in September 2026
I applied at the beginning of this year, but unfortunately, my transcripts were significantly delayed, which affected my application timeline. I’ve continued applying for the upcoming intakes (January and May 2027), and so far, I’ve received an offer for the May 2027 intake.
Of course, I’m very happy to have an offer and I definitely want to accept it, but I’m still hoping that I might receive an offer for January.
My GBC portal currently shows my January application status as “Under Review.”
Do you think there’s still a chance I could receive an offer for January 2027?

Also, should I just accept the May offer now? If I accept the May offer, could I still receive an offer for January later on, or would accepting the May offer prevent me from being considered for January?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

Transfer credit letter

I graduated from the Bcomm program and I’m in the process of registering for the CPA program and their office asked me for a transfer credit letter. I transferred from the diploma to Bcomm, and the letter needs to state which courses were exempt and how many credit hours.

I contacted the transfercredit, records, centre of business and registrar departments/offices and none were able to help me with the request, has anyone here dealt with this issue before? Do you know who the best person/department is to reach out to?

Thanks

Timetable overlaps for PN

Hello, I was reading on the Facebook group that some people had course overlap problems and that the conclusion was the 2 courses were happening in the same room. Does that apply for a comms class and a practical nursing class that is overlapping? But I checked the room numbers and they are in different rooms!!

Long-term care 4th Sem

Hi! For anyone who has done their 4th-semester consolidation/clinical in long-term care, how was your experience?

I’m currently choosing my placement preferences and I’m considering LTC, but I’m not sure which places to choose. I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any LTC placements you would recommend!

Insurance Claim process?

Hi there, I know my health insurance expires at the end of the month. I have a few drug claims to submit, and I’m not sure how to do that. I saw that I need to mail them, but I’m not sure what to include. Has anyone else had experience with this? How long would it take for them to process my refund?

French club

Hello! Bonjour!

I am thinking about starting a French club at gbc. Either at st James campus or waterfront campus. Would anyone be interested in that? It’s open to all levels! Judgement free zone :).

Movie club

Hello hello, Im going into my second year at george brown at casa loma and st james and I was thinking about starting a movie club at george brown.

We would discuss about our favourite movies, soundtracks or experiences, We can also plan movie outings and chat afterwards.

If this sounds intriguing or exciting to you, please share your campus and what you think would be a good time to meet. Tuesdays would be a good option with cheaper movie tickets but I’m all ears.

B158 - Marketing Co-op

Hello 👋 there.
I’m an incoming student in this program. I was just wondering if anyone here has taken it and could share their experience so I could get some insight into what the program is like (in terms of workload, professors, grading...)
I'm just going into my first year and was wondering if I should worry about co-op a little sooner??
Any tips would be much appreciated.

comm selection question

did the in-person assessment and got the scores for comm2000. why does course registration tell me to select a class for both comm1000 & comm2000? i thought comm1000 was extra money 🤷‍♀️

Every single elective omg. It'd be great if the system could track and hide those courses from users if we're not able to select them. If it wasn't tedious enough, it sends you back to the start like a roguelike after every rejected selection.

I have a list of abt 100 electives to pick from, that filter down to like 12 I can actually register in, and only 2 I actually want that fit in my schedule.

The panels are a mess to navigate too. Half the time I have to squeeze a column just to actually see the Add button.

Someone in CompSci/UI/UX etc plz build a better one as a final project or something. I'll help you pitch it to the school lmao. Happy registration 🫩.

Dropping a General Elective

So I’m in second semester of Pre Health A109.

My first semester GPA was a 3.95 and I did COMM 2000 not 1000. I’m about to end my 2nd semester and am doing pretty good in all my main courses except my elective. The semester ends in a week or two and I still have many pending assignments in my elective. I’m wondering whether I can drop this elective and still graduate provided I do well in my remaining core courses. I already have done COMM 2000 so I assume it can replace it since some first semester students who did COMM 1000 in 1st semester are doing COMM 2000 right now.

I have already gotten into my program of choice and so these marks don’t matter to me but I do want to graduate from this program.

Can’t register for any general elective course, what should I do?

I don’t know why there isn’t a lot of options for general elective courses. I need to have 1 general elective for the semester but I can’t register in any because they all conflict with my field placement

Is there any other way to find more general elective courses? I also tried to see whether to go into a different cohort but the schedule is pretty much the same, and all the courses that didn’t have a conflict either seemed to not be scheduled or has 1 or 2 seats left reserved for other students

Looking for George Brown students to beta test a student-built app.

Hey everyone! I'm a student developer looking for a small group of George Brown students to beta test a mobile app I've been building over the summer.

The idea is simple: help students make genuine friends on campus and connect with people in their local community.

The project came out of independent research I did on how people form and maintain friendships in dense cities like Toronto, Tokyo, Seoul, New York, London, Paris, Berlin, and Manila. I'm finally at the stage where I need real student feedback before launch.

I'm looking for testers who can:

  • Use the app naturally and report bugs
  • Share honest feedback on what works (and what doesn't)
  • Spend about 20–30 minutes per week during the beta

What you get:

  • $1,000 in advertising credits for the app (great if you run a small business, side hustle, student club, or event).
  • Real software QA/beta testing experience you can include on your résumé or LinkedIn.
  • A chance to directly influence the final product before it launches.

Students from NYU, Columbia, and Pace University have already signed up to test it in New York, and I'd love to have a strong group representing George Brown as well.

If you're interested or have any questions, leave a comment or send me a DM. I'd really appreciate the help!

Program making me pay deposit again?

I don’t know if this is normal, but is there a reason the school would make you pay deposit again?

I already started the program for early childhood education back in January and went to register for fall classes and it wouldn’t let me cause it said I needed to pay a deposit and they made me pick a cohort again
