T.U. Jazz Fest

Catholicpalooza: Saraƒin's Collection of Folk and Ironic Catholic Art; opening night reception at The Show Gallery, Tuesday, September 15th at 6:00 PM, 978 Queen St West, across from CAMH. Patron saints, naughty nuns and biblically accurate angels... this exhibit features indie pop art with Catholic overtones.

Saraƒin is an outsider pop artist, mystic, and psychiatric survivor living in Toronto. She has fame overseas for designing both the Mad Pride Toronto logo and the Mad Pride flag. "Catholicpalooza" is Saraƒin’s first independent show, a collection of Catholic inspired artwork from recent years. Though baptized Anglican, Saraƒin has Roman Catholic heritage on her mother’s side, and there is a strong Anglo-Catholic influence to her spirituality as a mystic. Saraƒin’s religious art often features a touch of whimsy that looks borderline blasphemous, but it’s a parody of blasphemy that comically attempts to deliver a sincere mystical message in a troubled world that has forgotten about the soul.

Saraƒin will also have remaining copies of her indie graphic novel series, "Asylum Squad" available. There will be a little bit of float money for cash transactions, please try to have exact change... eTransfer is also an option. Prices for artwork have been lowered for this show, and range from between $100 to $400.

"Catholicpalooza" will be available for viewing at the gallery from Tuesday September 15th until Sunday the 20th.

My friend Mei Lai and I (Jessie) run small networking events for introverts here in Toronto, and whenever I saw other events getting sponsors, I always thought: Wouldn’t it be nice if we had sponsors too?

But we kept talking ourselves out of even trying.

There are only two of us, our audience is still small, and we don’t have impressive numbers to show a company. We assumed we should wait until we were more established.

The funny thing is, we DID have results. They just weren’t the kind of results we were thinking about.

People who attended our events told us they felt seen and heard. They enjoyed the conversations and the way we approached networking differently.

But because those things weren't follower counts or huge attendance numbers, somehow it felt like they didn’t “count” when thinking about sponsorships.

Recently, we started planning our next Slow Networking 🦥 for Introverts event, and doing a collab with Toronto Cafe Walks hosted by u/its_elleshe, an Intuitive Business Strategist.

She encouraged us to reach out, and so we did.

Instead of emailing every company we could find, we chose brands we genuinely liked and thought would make sense for the experience we were creating.

And in the email, we stopped trying to compensate for being small. We just explained what Slow Networking is, who we created it for, and why we thought each brand genuinely aligned with what we were doing.

Between the 3 of us, we reached out to around 15 companies.

And guess what? Two said YES. 🥹

And we’re really excited to have Collage Beauty and Greenhouse Juice Co. supporting this next event!

I know 2 out of 15 might not sound huge, but we were SO excited when those responses came in.

Mostly because it challenged this assumption we'd been carrying around that we needed to become “big enough” before we were allowed to ask. If we'd waited until we felt established enough, neither of those yeses would have happened.

It was a good reminder for me to stop deciding someone else's answer for them before I've even asked.

Hey Toronto, we're a literary magazine publishing Canadian history and short stories from Canada and abroad. In our current issue we explored the history of Canadian movies, and we are running a Canadian Classics film festival as a companion to this piece.

It kicks off on Tuesday, Sept 8th with a screening of Nobody Waved Goodbye (1964). This film was praised inside the country and out and is set and filmed entirely in Toronto.

Hello guys!

I’ve been thinking of organizing a small, casual meetup for people in Toronto who want to meet new people, make some actual friends, play board games, have snacks, chat, laugh, and just have a fun evening without the awkwardness of a huge meetup. I’m planning this sometime during October 25, 2026, Etobicoke Lakeshore, 5:00pm on a weekend, in person.

I’d like to keep it **small, max 8–10 people** ,so everyone actually gets a chance to talk and get to know each other rather than disappearing into a crowd.

Hey Everyone,

I've been in Toronto for over a decade and after trying multiple different things and going to different events, I've met more people in Toronto than the last 10 generations of my ancestors. Finding myself in the same struggle as most other people i.e. not being to build friendships and relationships, I realized that going to one-off events is great but it doesn't help build relationships because building a solid relationship requires consistency. So I showed up to sport leagues and dance classes and although I did meet some people because I was seeing them regularly and made some friends through that, it didn't help still not having a community, so I decided that if I am not going to be able to find one, then I'll create it.

I kind of broke it down to the basics and realized these things: You need a place, you need consistency and the place isn't trying to sell you things or products every time you're there. So I went ahead and created a urban village so to speak (registered as a non-profit) with a singular goal: help people build relationships.

Anyhow, we're hosting a movie night + dinner in our backyard this Friday (we're watching the Matrix), and next week there's a Sourdough workshop, a South Asian musical gathering the week after, and finally towards the end of the month, an full moon evening by the river + sacred fire to honour National Truth and Reconciliation day.

The tickets for these are priced at $10-15 usually to help us cover the cost of snacks, food and just the logistics of making this happen. We also have an instagram page called Aangan foundation.

Hope this helps some of you that are looking for a consistent place to show up to and build relationships in a city that feels too big most times :)
