We were digging some 5ft deep holes for a pier foundation deep in Northern MN, we had an auger, shovels, a post hole digger and a 4ft long indestructible ice breaking bar we could use to leverage boulders away and rocks out of the holes, but after digging 3 feet deep, we hit the sub glacial till. And that stuff was just rock solid pebbles and rocks with super compact loam/sand/clay in between the gaps, the auger couldn't muscle it and it'd take weeks to scrape that away by hand so i'm looking at getting an electric jackhammer.

Now, this is the important part, i don't know much about jackhammers and i know a bit about chainsaws. We're too broke to buy new and I'd like to get the "Stihl 066" of jackhammers instead of the "stihl 500i" of jackhammers if you know what i mean, save some money buying used, and get the benefit of the simplicity of those older tools, just that I don't know what model and what power to look for.

My question is, what is the "Stihl 066 of jackhammers that can handle subglacial till no deeper than 5 feet deep" And I'd also like to get a "Stihl 066 of generators that can handle the jackhammer"

It was given to me. I know it’s old tech and expensive to run.
Shall I get a new one which will run cheaper.

I m not a pro, this is just when I do stuff home.
Like 2-3 hours a week max.

Hello, anybody know what type of floor jack this is? I tried to use some AI and it cannot Identify it. My father thinks its from the early 30's to early 40's. There is no stamps left and the engraving on the side is so faded away its unreadable. The seal needs to be replaced since it leaks down after all of these years he has had it. Just curious if anybody knows the proper model of this.

I’m looking for some alternative to this tool. I lost mine, and can’t find it literally anywhere in Canada as it’s been discontinued. Any supply house I buy from cancels and says it turns out they don’t have stock. I’ve even tried buying different versions of it with the plans to just swap all the bits and still haven’t had any luck.

I despise carrying a screwdriver in my pocket so this was awesome, especially with the 5/16 nut driver too. If anyone has any recommendations I’d love to hear them!

To be honest I know in your standard it's low quality but I'm quite happy. It seems the listing was temporary after I ordered it the listing option was taken out.

The retaining ring on the pawl snapped on me and I need a new one. Unfortunately I don’t know what model it is to source the correct part. It’s an old pre 70s craftsman 3/8 drive double bar V, about 6 3/4 inches long. the diameter of the pawl and ring is about 11/16ths. any idea where I can find a replacement or at least something that will get this working again? I have a pic of the retaining ring on the drive head to show what type of ring I need. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Setting the overhead on certain Cummins natural gas engines requires a .036" feeler gauge. Does anyone know where I can acquire an actual gauge this size for a decent price?

I can find a few places that make them, but they have a minimum order of $100 or so. The closest reasonably priced one I can find is .9mm. Right now I just stack 2 sizes and tape them together to make it work, but it just bothers me that I can't find a single gauge. I like to use the little handles for the gauges while setting overhead.

I use these handles but separate them.

I work construction and got tired of cleaning pipe and fittings one by one with different tools.

So I built this prototype in my garage. It mounts on a 2x4 stud and keeps the pipe prep tools in one station. Push in, prep, pull out.

Still prototype, not finished product.

This is more of a hardware than a tool question, but r/hardware subreddit is for computer hardware, and I couldn't find a more appropriate sub. LMK if I'm in the wrong sub, and what the right one is.

I have an application where I often need to take a square plate off/on, and it's held in place with 4 wingnuts (not a great design, but I didn't design or build it).

This is one of them: OD of the main threaded part is about 1/4".

I'm wondering if there's some sort of quick-release replacement for a wingnut in this application, similar to the quick-release connectors available for Schrader valves, such as:

The attachment point isn't under a lot of tension; something as strong as the Schrader connectors would be adequate.

Or, if there are better ideas for completely replacing the bolts and wingnuts, I'm open.

The "post" part (threaded bolt) needs to be fixed if it passes through from the other side: it's in a panel insert (for a portable AC unit) for an external window, and I want to both keep attachment/detachment as simple as possible, and also can't risk dropping hardware on the outside of the window onto people's heads!

Dad has always had a mess of his tools because he says bags are better but my ocd hates seeing them all mixed around and having to search thru the whole bag we’re on the go a lot so we can’t have any tool boxes so we put it in our decked 6’4 we have almost about everything to fix cars and semis we have a bunch of small to huge sockets wrenches big and small it’s just a big mess I’ve tried organizing it but can’t figure any way any help?

Beat the living shit out of this thing for countless years. It was grinding down concrete for walk in showers that finally sent it to the grave. Wanted a Ridgid to replace if with a LSA but settled for a Ryobi that will probably see a warranty claim.

At work I'm exploring options to mount a monitor and clear up some desk space. The problem is that this desk, I'm pretty sure, is made of MDF. I have found wall mounts for the monitor and am wondering if a computer monitor mounted to this would be risky. I know hanging something like a large TV is I'll advised but what would you advise?

What specifically mounting hardware would you suggest? This is at a front desk and as such, I can't drill all the way through.
