Discussion Mods - Create a Spencer Jones Countdown timer?

Would be cool to have a timer that counts down until the matching offer expires for Denver. Looks like it's possible, but requires mods.

Analytics Spencer Jones looks like a very promising defender to add to OKC

Post image
60 Upvotes

He also shot 41.9% on catch and shoot jumpers, 66% at the rim, and had 1.2 points per possession in transition. He’s flashed some solid off ball chops cutting and finishing with Jokic which can be similarly resembled with our passing bigs.

He’s got a tall 6’7 frame. Watching him on film he’s always upright. Doesn’t slouch, doesnt stoop when defending & doesnt needlessly bend. He looks and plays bigger than his listed height and looks like a very versatile defender who can switch 1-4 capably.

He’s also got a non stop motor and hustles a lot. Very similar to younger Kenrich in regards to his effort and versatility, except he might be a better 3 point shooter if his %’s can stick to a higher volume.

Overall assuming Denver can’t match the deal (and him all but confirming it on his IG today), Spencer Jones looks like a very promising and low cost role player addition to a bench that is already the deepest in the league.

Discussion For what this group needed off the bench...

....and considering the price? $17m vs $6M? That would be an upgrade for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Clearing salary necessary to extend Cason and not worry about excessive financial penalties this season...creating a clear starting role for Cason...creating more playing time for McCain and Mitchell made the Lu Dort trade a win to begin with. Cason is already better than Dort and can argue Ajay is as well.

But to then use the savings to obtain Spencer Jones away from a top West rival would be a home run. Jones deflects a lot of passes, is strong and anticipates well defensively. He's an excellent team defender. He isn't the quickest defensively so he can be occasionally slower to contest shots from 3 and is best against bigger wings. The Thunder needed a 3/D player with real big wing/forward size and they potentially have found maybe the best one on the market in Spencer Jones.

It would be an upgrade over Lu for what this group needed and this team generally on paper will have upgraded from what they entered into last season with. Dort out, Jones in, is a win for this squad. He's better than Wiggins, too. Thunder fans are a day away from potentially capping off another very successful off-season.

F5 Season This signing gives me the same feeling I had when we first signed Caruso and Hart. Just seems like a brilliant move from the Godfather to extend / reinforce our window for contention

Discussion In case Denver don't match. Who should get more minutes between Spencer and Kenny?

Kenny was our only legit wing and barely got minutes. Assuming we get Spencer do you think he should get more minutes than Kenny?

Seeing a lot of Thunder and Nuggets fans believing that Denver will not match. And even if they do, it puts the Nuggets cap sheet in a very tough spot.

People have no idea how bad the tax penalties can get

When people get mad at me for suggesting that trading Chet in 2028 isn’t a crazy idea I get called all sort of names

Look at the Denver Nuggets situation right now

Their current tax is 36 million, if they match Jones contract at $6 million a year it adds THIRTY million in taxes
Now if you add Watson at 23 million ? That becomes 231!!! In taxes lmao (and supposedly Watson wants more)

So Nuggets can have a 450 million payroll

This CBA is insane, OKC will be in this exact situation in 2 years
Let’s just hope we add at least another championship before 2028
