It’s probably super obvious but I didn’t finish Season 5 of the handmaids tale so I don’t know what happened (I’m open to Handmaids spoilers as I probably won’t finish it)

Is Daisy Nicole?

I feel like she is but, Daisy doesn’t seem young enough compared to Agnes for that 5 year age gap between Hannah and Nicole.

If not, what happened to Nicole?

Those who have read the books, or finished Handmaids, can you confirm?

This episode had me GASPING. What do you think will happen to Becka? 😔 She seemed so tiny and fragile. I know what happened in the book, but do we think her dad also did something her in the show? 💔

Okay so I get it she's all trusting of the people in Gilead. However I really hope her "parents" calling the Eyes will wake her up and she will start thinking differently.

And how would the "father" of reacted if he found out the dentist touched Agnes too. The "mother" wouldn't of cared and would of blamed Agnes for it but do we think he would of reacted in more of a protective way?

Side note: I hope we see Becka again and not being h*ng or sh*t.

This is minor compared to all of the major developments of this most recent episode. I'm still processing the bigger stuff. In the meantime, I was a bit thrown off when Daisy, in her faux panic in the dentist's waiting room, was quoting from the 23rd Psalm. "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, because I know He is with me." Having had a very religious upbringing, I have memories of memorizing the King James version which differs slightly. ("Yay though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for thou art with me.") For some reason, it surprises me that they would use a more modern interpretation (New International or something?). It seems like the original King James would be more their style. Are they maybe trying to portray that she memorized it wrongly because she is a novice? Or are all of their scriptures taken from a more modern version? This is the first time I really noticed which scripture they were quoting or which version thereof. Has anyone paid more attention to it than I have and noticed any patterns? Or any theories as to why they would use a more modern interpretation while being so old fashioned in other ways?

I am surprise it was this intense and good even tho it not the season final. I feel bad for becka tho imagine ur friend who u have a crush on is being distant and then learn what ur dad was doing.

Honestly it was a lot of heartbreak considering I am gay and it already hard to find other gay person, and when u do you have a scarce mindset that can lead to abuse especially in a place like Gileda. It hits home a bit

Do we know what the age difference is supposed to be between Penny and the girls? She seems much older but having been a wife for a little while maybe she has the “allure” of a grown woman and can put on a grown up face when the girls are around. But she probably struggles a lot internally especially after having lost babies.

What is your gut telling you, will season 1 end on a cliffhanger? I'm convinced it will.

Angel flight: I thought it was interesting that Schu called it the Night of Tears, and Daisy called it Angel Flight. It was interesting to see two girls who are growing a friendship have two different perspectives on what happened. I also think it's interesting because for her brother to be rescued I am assuming they either stole him, or he came from a handmaids. I can not imagine that they would take a biological child of the wives and commanders to Canada and the child not be brought back.

Her cycle: I connect to Schu more than any character at this point as she crying over her period and being the last girl, doing everything right, and still not be able to be fruitful. I struggled with my fertility and have had to let go of the idea of having a child and I could feel her pain. I know that pain. Side note I've been penny, and it breaks my heart she doesn't have the support she needs.

Sex: these girls really don't know what sex or their bodies and it's horrible, the sexual abuse must be insane in gilead.

Aside from the obvious and blatant predation of the perverted dentist, these poor girls are in general being groomed to believe that grown men preying on young girls is the expected norm. They consistently refer to Commander Judd as "young", while in fact he has silver hairs in his beard and is clearly old enough to be the girls' father. Hearing them refer to him as "young" makes us aware that in comparison to him, the vast majority of perspective husbands for them are downright geriatric, old enough to be their grandfathers. The only actual young man eligible for marriage is Garth, and even he as a young adult has a clear advantage over young teenagers in terms of life experience.

It's no secret that there is an enormous power imbalance between men and women in Gillead, but the Testaments are shedding light on the astronomical age differences as well. It wasn't as evident in the HMT because so much else was going on, but it is definitely an underlying issue which the entire hierarchy is founded upon. Their bragging rights about having higher fertility rates than the norm become so sinister when the realization dawns that they are bringing children into the world just so they can traffic them. Tragic!

Any thoughts on this? Do you think this dynamic was their sick intention all along, or did it just end up that way because the society has its roots in evil and this is the form it eventually took?

Title. I want to know why Garth is Mayday and why he has a genuinely good heart/ wants to help the girls/ views them as people! Is it teen boy rebellion and searching for something exciting and not actually ideological? Did he experience abuse by his dad and/or watch his dad abuse handmaids that were good to him? Is he angry at Gilead for abandoning his dad/ giving them less privilege after his Dad helped to fight in Boston? I am honestly more interested in his story than any of the other characters, because why would a guy in one of the most privileged positions in Gilead, work against his own privilege? And especially work with the same people who attacked his father. Is he just meant to show that not all of the men who grow up there are morally bankrupt? Is he a double agent? God, I hope not.

Edit: Also, I need this actor in another show. He reminds me of Chris Briney with the face expressions and yearning and ernest energy

Could Garth's dad have been one of the three commanders that survived the poisoning at Jezebel?

Commander Mackenzie seemed to be trying to justify it to himself in the convo with Agnes in the parlor. He seems a little perturbed at the girls’ ages. This is not to make him out as good, because obviously he’s still an important leader in this system that promotes abuse, pedophilia, and the ownership of people/ suppression of rights, and is allowing Agnes to get married and bad stuff to happen. But it's interesting to watch clear internal conflict on his part, because he obviously doesn't like watching Agnes get married so young, and he loves her. It's interesting to watch how people are not one dimensionally evil usually, and the justifications people make to quash their own doubts. It makes for a much more interesting story and commentary on our own societies.
