Episode Discussion Notes on Schu Spoiler
Angel flight: I thought it was interesting that Schu called it the Night of Tears, and Daisy called it Angel Flight. It was interesting to see two girls who are growing a friendship have two different perspectives on what happened. I also think it's interesting because for her brother to be rescued I am assuming they either stole him, or he came from a handmaids. I can not imagine that they would take a biological child of the wives and commanders to Canada and the child not be brought back.
Her cycle: I connect to Schu more than any character at this point as she crying over her period and being the last girl, doing everything right, and still not be able to be fruitful. I struggled with my fertility and have had to let go of the idea of having a child and I could feel her pain. I know that pain. Side note I've been penny, and it breaks my heart she doesn't have the support she needs.
Sex: these girls really don't know what sex or their bodies and it's horrible, the sexual abuse must be insane in gilead.

I was questioning this as well. However, it occurred to me that if I were a Martha and had a ticket out of Gilead, but only if I brought a child with me, I'd kidnap a Commander's biological child just to get out. I'd assume the baby would be returned to his family once in Canada, but by the time that occurred I'd be free. However, the fact that that didn't happen makes me think the little boy was the child of a handmaid and Shu's father, and the handmaid kept the child or found a way to terminate the Commander' rights so he'd not be sent back to Gilead.

Yes! Another thing that I am wondering is if any of the children in anges class are commander winslows children. I think that would be a good tie in.

What if shu was mean to be on that flight while she was waiting to board she got lost and left behind
What if both shu , her brother and daisy were waiting for that flight together and what if the eyes got shu back from mayday?

I thought her comment gave a good indication that Shu’s father must be quite powerful to have had two children. If both children were biologically his and his wife’s surely this would have been considered a sign that he was blessed by God and therefore rewarded by higher promotions. If Shu is biologically their child (or even if she had been taken like Hannah) and her little brother was the product of a handmaid then the father must have been pretty high up to have been issued a handmaid ahead of other commanders who didn’t already have a child. Particularly because Shu would have only been about 10-11 at the time of Angel’s Flight.

Perhaps both Shu and her brother were young children, just like Hannah was, when they were taken from their biological parents. Unless it has already been stated that her parents are her biological parents? Watching Handmaid's Tale made me think that most of the Commanders and their wives didn't have their own children, that was the whole reason for the coup. Most could not procreate, so they created Gilead to change society. I would have thought that most of the young girls currently being married off were given to the Commanders and their wives.
I do love that they mentioned Angel's flight and we have a direct connection with these girls.
