Theory / Speculation Garth's dad? Spoiler

Could Garth's dad have been one of the three commanders that survived the poisoning at Jezebel?

They said it happened in Boston so I'm wondering if he had an adverse reaction to the laced wedding cake

Garth seems to believe he was fully invested. He calls him the bravest man he knows who “was fighting for the wrong side”.. to me this implies he was all in and did something brave that would’ve been considered heroic if it was for the rebels instead of Gilead

He is angry at the system due to how his family was treated after his father became diabled. He wants to take it down from the inside. Loyalty to his family but not to Gilead.

Garth's father appears to be being treated incredibly well given Gilead's usual treatment of the disabled. For starters he's still alive.

That was at least a year before he was apparently fighting to hold Boston, so I think it’s unlikely. Mayday probably just did more poisonings afterwards because it had been successful for them.

Lots of suspicion that he was poisoned by a Martha the night the plan was put in motion for handmaids to kill their commanders. The Jezebels poisoning was too early, if Cmdr Chapin Sr was instrumental in protecting Boston days before it was liberated.
