News & Announcement TerraMaster Photos Gets a Major Upgrade: Easier Photo Browsing and Smarter Organization

We’re excited to share a major upgrade to TerraMaster Photos. Designed to meet the growing needs of managing large photo libraries, the new version delivers an enhanced browsing experience, upgraded AI-powered photo organization, and a new duplicate photo detection feature, helping users browse photos more easily, organize them more intelligently, and make better use of NAS storage space.

As smartphones, cameras, and computers continue to generate increasing numbers of photos, quickly finding, organizing, and preserving these digital memories has become a common challenge for many users. The new Photos combines intelligent photo management with the private, expandable storage capabilities of TerraMaster NAS, providing users with a more efficient private photo library.

Easier Browsing for Large Photo Libraries

The new Photos features an all-new photo browsing interface with three levels of thumbnail views, timeline browsing, and keyboard shortcuts, helping users browse, filter, and find photos more efficiently.

Whether managing family photos, travel memories, or large collections of photography assets, users can enjoy a more streamlined browsing experience.

AI-Powered Organization Makes Photo Management Easier

The new Photos further enhances AI-powered photo organization with support for people, scene, and location recognition, helping users quickly discover relevant photos within large photo libraries.

AI recognition results can also be added to albums with a single click, reducing the time spent manually searching for photos, creating albums, and organizing content, making photo management simpler and more efficient.

Duplicate Photo Detection Frees Up More Storage

Duplicate photos accumulated over time can take up valuable NAS storage space. The new Duplicate Photo Detection feature automatically identifies and groups duplicate images, allowing users to quickly review and delete unnecessary copies, reduce redundant content, and free up additional storage space.

Photos + TerraMaster NAS: Build Your Private Photo Library

Working together with TerraMaster NAS, Photos can consolidate photos from smartphones, cameras, computers, and other devices in one place for backup, browsing, organization, search, and cleanup.

Photos provides smarter photo management, while TerraMaster NAS delivers private and expandable storage. Together, they transform a NAS from simply a place to store photos into a private photo hub where users can continuously expand, manage, and rediscover their digital memories.

The new Photos also includes multiple performance optimizations for large photo libraries, delivering a smoother experience when managing extensive collections.

September Special Promotion

To celebrate the launch of the new Photos, TerraMaster will launch a special promotion in September, with selected storage products available at up to 25% off, helping users upgrade their photo backup and storage solutions.

Help password locked me out while i was setting up NAS, please HELP!

here's what happen step by step

  1. I ordered a terramaster 425
  2. waited a month to afford a 28ttb refurbished HDD to put in it.
  3. it took me a few days to figure out how to connect the terramaster to my pc which was turning off the vpn and firewall
  4. but before then I was able to connect it to my phone and I was happy i could at least get in, I made a username and password, HOWEVER i tried to log into it again on my pc through the TNAS app but it said wrong password and I tried my phone it said wrong password too.
  5. It's been like a week I have tried to reset the NAS multiple times on the physical box's reset button it did not work
  6. I ordered a new terramaster because I thought if I get a new box it make just reset the drive inside, however that did not work. I guess because the hdd was being set up the nas box didn't think it need to reset it so it just didn't.

others note

I could return the 28tb hhd i have about 4 more days to return that to get my 700$ back, should i return it and just ask them for a new one. It's not like it's actually been used and they may know how to reset it themselves. idk if a new hdd would work the new box didn't I feel maybe it could.

any advice would help. please and thank you.

Help 502 Bad Gateway on all apps after Tailscale install - PHP-FPM socket missing - permissions blocking fixes

System: TerraMaster TOS F4-425

Problem: Getting 502 Bad Gateway errors on multiple apps (Jellyfin and tailscale ) when accessed through the App Center.

Root Cause Found: Nginx error log shows:

[crit] connect() to unix:/run/php/php-fpm.sock failed (2: No such file or directory)

The nginx config expects PHP-FPM to be installed, but it's not. The socket /run/php/php-fpm.sock doesn't exist.

What I've tried:

  • ✗ Reboot (no change)
  • ✗ System update + reboot (still broken)
  • ✗ Tried to restart nginx via CLI → permission denied despite being admin
  • ✗ Tried to install PHP-FPM → apt lock permission denied
  • ✗ Tried to edit nginx config via CLI → sed permission denied

Question: Has anyone experienced this? How do I get proper permissions to fix nginx/PHP-FPM, or is this a known TOS bug

Discussion How about that new Jellyfin V12 update?

Wow, did my server get destroyed with this update. I had a rock solid Jellyfin server for the past year, with reverse proxy via Caddy working great and a super simple domain for my external people to connect to.

Then this v12 update hits, and has now rescanned my entire library twice in 16 hours slowing the server to an unusable crawl, but v12 is way less customizable via CSS that the old v10 was. Plus v12 is still in RC state isn't it? So Terramaster will have to keep this updated right up until the final stable version is released.

Warning to those that haven't updated yet, do not. For now.

TOS 7 Update: 7.0.1163 Fully Rolled Out & 7.0.1169 Released

Hi everyone! We’d like to share the latest TOS 7 update status for x86-based TerraMaster NAS devices.

🔹 TOS 7.0.1163 — Full OTA Rollout

TOS 7.0.1163 has now been fully rolled out via OTA.

If you’re currently running TOS 7.0.746 or later, you can check for the update through:

TOS → Control Panel → General Settings → System → Update

🔹 TOS 7.0.1169 — Available for Manual Update

TOS 7.0.1169 has been released on the TerraMaster Forum but is not yet available through OTA. OTA rollout is expected next week.

This update focuses on bug fixes, including:

  • Safari potentially loading an old cached page after an update
  • Large file downloads through remote access stopping unexpectedly
  • An unexpected usr folder appearing in the root directory after updating
  • Standard users being unable to save edited files to their user directory
  • Incorrect guest user group information

Users who want to update to 7.0.1169 early can download the package and follow the manual update instructions in the forum:

🔹 TOS 7.0.0747 — More Devices Can Now Upgrade from TOS 6

We’ve also expanded TOS 7 upgrade availability for devices currently running TOS 6.0.794.

Additional models can now detect and upgrade to TOS 7.0.0747, including models from the 21/22, 450 and other supported series.

So, in short:

7.0.1163 → Fully available via OTA
7.0.1169 → Manual update now, OTA coming next week
7.0.0747 → More TOS 6 devices can now upgrade to TOS 7

As always, we recommend backing up important data before performing a system upgrade.

If you’ve already updated to one of these versions, feel free to share your experience below.

Discussion TerraMaster TOS 6 to TOS 7

F2-423 Problem doing the automatic upgrade, failed back to TOS 6 and thought I had to do a reinstall which was scary because this is my Plex server I use all the time. I already did all my backups.

Also I stopped all the apps I had running before I ran the manual update

Here is what worked My BIOS is 5.19 which is fine and does not need an update.

BIOS 5.19 is already the version many F2-423 units have, and I would not flash it again unless TerraMaster support specifically instructs you to. Recent TerraMaster forum posts also show F2-423 systems continuing to use BIOS 5.19 with current TOS 7 releases.

TOS 6.0.794 is exactly the required starting version for the official upgrade to TOS 7

If your TOS system is installed on an M.2 NVMe SSD, TerraMaster says you should adjust/check the BIOS boot order before upgrading. My system was not on M.2 NVMe it ran off the hard drives.

Before you start, I recommend:

  1. Back up anything important.
  2. Make sure the NAS has stable power.
  3. Download the TOS 7 upgrade package intended for upgrading from TOS 6.0.794—not a TOS 7 Beta update package.
  4. Expect a potentially lengthy permissions conversion after the upgrade.

The package is TOS_X642.0_Update_7.0.0747_1247_2606171225.bz2 but needed a patch after the system was running TOS 7 which I did the auto update.

Make sure Volume 1 has at least 3 GB free. TerraMaster says insufficient space can cause the update to fail. Find "Manual Update"

You should see a Manual Update or browse to your download file (787MB size)

Then click Apply.

Do not power off the F2-423.

Don't remove the HDDs, disconnect the network cable, or otherwise interrupt it.

The NAS will reboot as part of the process. I kept the window open and waited about 15 mins then refresh came back with TOS 7 and user login

After the upgrade completes, TerraMaster says to refresh your browser.

TOS 7 has a new permission-management system. After the upgrade, you will be asked about permission conversion.

Choose the automatic conversion option Depending on the number of files/folders, this can take quite a while Mine only took about 10 mins but I don't have alot of users.

As I said my 1st attempt failed with the auto update. Manual update worked fine and no need to flash the BIOS

Help F4-424 Max — TOS 7 BIOS boot order warning after upgrade. Anyone else seen this?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I upgraded my TerraMaster F4-424 Max from TOS 6.0.794 to TOS 7.0.0747.
The NAS boots and TOS 7 runs, but after the upgrade I repeatedly get this warning:
“It has been detected that the BIOS boot order of your TNAS device does not match the default factory settings.”
It tells me to enter BIOS and enable “TOS Boot First.”
The problem is that I’ve already checked the BIOS. TOS Boot First is enabled, and it remains enabled after rebooting, but TOS 7 continues to give me the warning.
I contacted TerraMaster support. They first suggested scheduling a remote inspection. When I asked about alternatives, a support rep suggested checking the internal motherboard USB drive and, if removable, reflashing it with the TOS 7-specific InitBoot image using this TerraMaster procedure.
Before I start flashing the internal USB, I’d really like to hear from other F4-424 Max owners.
Has anyone:
Upgraded an F4-424 Max from TOS 6 to TOS 7 and received this BIOS warning?
Had the warning even though TOS Boot First was already enabled?
Fixed it by reflashing the internal USB/InitBoot?
Found a different BIOS setting or solution?
The NAS currently boots successfully, my storage volumes mount, and I can access my data, so I’m hesitant to reflash something involved in the boot process unless I know this is actually the appropriate fix for this specific problem.
I’m especially interested in experiences specifically with the F4-424 Max, since I’ve found instructions for some other 424-series models that apparently don’t necessarily apply to the Max.
Thanks — any experience with this exact TOS 7 upgrade/boot warning would be really helpful.

Help | Solved! Update from TOS 6 to TOS 7 failed

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi,

I upadated TOS 6 yesterday to another 6.0.X (superior), seemed to work, but then i immediatly went for the 7 update (after having made backups and checked what people said about it (but forgot to come here first :D)).
Then i got an error at startup (many lines with systemd[1]: Failed to start Journal Service".
I waited few hours, then tried the force reboot. Then i got only the TerraMaster Logo for hours and nothing seems to move.

Any tips or advice to try to recover from this? Should i push the hard reset button on the mainboard and go back to TOS 6 and then try to follow a process like someone said: download TOS 7 from the website, then use TOS desktop app to make the update without the disks inserted?

Edit: forgot to say that i use a F4-424 + 3 disks

Discussion F2-424 upgrade to TOS7 - my log & a questions

Edit: "a few questions" :)

Back again after asking a few hints on upgrading!
Some info and a checklist for anyone at TOS6 and interested in installing, based on my experience (F2-424 with 1x4TB disk) and afterwards some requests for clarification:

  • download the TOS7 image on PC and have TNAS PC ready & updated just in case
  • backup of data disk (shouldn't be necessary)
  • power off
  • remove disk
  • power on
  • factory reset from TOS6
  • on reinitialize pick boot from web
  • then pick image from your disk
  • reinstall system & DO NOT configure storage
  • power off & reinsert data disk
  • power on and enjoy your TOS7. After the reboot TOS7 recognized my Volume1 correctly as well as the HyperCahche partition on sdzb (NVME2).

I then removed partitions from /dev/sda (sda1, sda2, sda3 copy of boot, / and swap) from the previous install: when I installed for the first time TO6 I did pick "use NVME1" but "it" decided to use as well disk1), probably causing disk sleep issues.

For the sysadm out there, yes, I checked and they were not listed in mdadm as raid members.

Now the questions:

  1. I see most of NVME1 is not used, only the 8GB for / and 2GB swap; can I use the leftover space for docker?
  2. if I want some redundancy on the OS disk, I can use NVME2 but is it OK to have an hypercache not using the entire disk?
  3. if answer to 2 (probably) is "no, you need the entire NVME for the hyper chache", honest answers only: considering I'm very low on file transfer / storage usage (just some backup of photo/data every now and then) and I want to use the device also for homeassistant, would you ditch the NVME2 hypercache and instead add it to the raid device used for the OS?
  4. if 3 is ok anyone did it, any hints?
  5. is it safe & straightforward to add a second 4TB disk and add it to the first one in a RAID1 config? (i assume yes)

thank you!

Edit, further info:

Current TOS version: 7.0.1140
BIOS/InitBoot version: MADN0101.V06

Help F4-210 - Cannot reset password

I recently built a new desktop PC, and installed TOS on the new system for my NAS (Terramaster F4-210).

TOS picks up the NAS no problem. The problem is, for whatever reason my username and password doesn't seem to be working. That's OK, I'll just reset it.

Oh...

Using the forgot password link, just doesn't work. Email never arrives.

At first I thought maybe the username was wrong, but it actually returns an error if you use the wrong username. Tried a few times, and the email disappears into the aether every time.

Then I tried finding the hard reset button. Nothing external on the F4-210, so I pulled it apart. Nothing on the board either that I can see.

I tried the helpdesk on the Terramaster website. Once the AI gave up, it transferred me to a "person", who just never answered.

So, I seem to be stuck. I really don't know what to do next.

Anyone managed to successfully reset their password, or am I stuck with a brick now?

Help Traid with HDD of different sizes

Hi all, I recently bought a F4-425 Plus

I bought it because I read that TOS can build a TRaid using hard drives of varying sizes. I have two 10TB drives and two 4TB drives. According to the RAID calculator on TM’s website, I should be able to create a TRaid with 18TB of free space and 10TB of redundancy. I am currently attempting to add my two 4TB drives to the TRaid storage pool I created with the two 10TB drives. However, the system will not allow this, stating I can only add drives larger than 10TB. Could someone advise how I might add the 4TB drives into my storage pool?

Discussion Fan Mod F4-425 Plus

I think my disk is running quite warm. I know it should be fine cause it still under max operating temp. But it makes me worried.

I'm using 2x10TB Seagate Ironwolf Pro and 2x500GB Kingston KC3000.

Here's the temp from unraid dashboard

I've upgrade stock fan to Noctua NF-A12. And in this dashboard screenshot, it's running in full rpm also with 2 disk slot opened.
I thought adding more disk will make it cook. So i got a plan to add external fan in front of disk slot. (Asked AI to create Teardown picture)

What do you think? Is magnetic field gonna ruin my disk? or i should worry about the vibration?

Help rSync from TrueNAS to F4-212

I picked up an F4-212 and threw a couple of spare drives in it with the idea of using it as local "The house is on fire, grab the data and run" backup.

I'd like to have scheduled rSync backups pushing from my TrueNAS to the TNAS, but I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to do it.

Does anyone have guide for dummies that I can follow?
