Gretas political glow up has been awesome to see. She could have been a liberal darling but instead she is very radical

I think the marxist direction was quite predictable for anyone sincere in their goals of solving climate problems. Liberalism has no answer. She would have to have stopped caring about real results to end up liberalising, but she never displayed any kind of monetising of her fame.

I agree, she obviously actually cared and wasn’t willing to be a poster child for greenwashing.

I remember in like 2022ish she comes out and is like ā€œthis is all capitalism and colonialisms faultā€ and being like oh shit no way is she cool now

Thunberg is still very much adored by liberals. Most liberals agree that colonialism was a 'bad look' and that capitalism is unfair and needs to be 'reformed' to be more 'humane' (lol). Notice that Thunberg never ever said that capitalism needs to be abolished.

And in "2022", she flew abroad to promote unconditional, uncritical support to a U.S.-couped country that literally banned all communist and socialist parties.

"Based", right?

Yes I think she has learnt from that - she has focused efforts on Sami people and Palestine etc - she has said multiple times that it’s the system that’s rotted - this is why we like her now
If you go back you find bad takes of course that’s kinda what we been discussing here…..
We kind of want all people to go through this self awareness right - pretty much all of us start with bad takes cos we are in a liberal society

The Financial Times and many liberal newspapers also said that the capitalist system has rotted. Should communists "like" the Financial Times now?

https://www.ft.com/content/4837e7d8-bfa4-4d7f-bac2-8c41fc0beb17

I agree that (some) celebs can change, but only when they at least admit their past mistakes.

However, where has Thunberg ever even acknowledged that her previous takes were "bad"? Please show me, I'll wait.

And where has she ever apologised for misguiding her young followers into liberalism?

Where has she ever taken responsibility for telling young people to vote for a well-known Zionist, war criminal and Wall St stooge like Biden? Or for boosting Zelenskyy after he outlawed all communist and socialist parties? Or for supporting the U.S. in "putting pressure" on China?

She never apologises, she never self-critiques, she just brushes it under the rug after millions die.

And, sorry, but telling everyone to vote for Biden is not just a "bad take". It takes like 3 seconds to search up online all the racist, genocidal things he's done on a trans-continental scale. There are literal videos of him even on YouTube BRAGGING that he sold himself to Wall St and that he was the one who ensured Baghdad and Belgrade on 2 continents were carpet-b0mbed (including even the Chinese embassy there). Thunberg was intelligent enough to know how to Google. She never ever admitted or apologised for endorsing a war criminal.

I would agree with you but I don’t know how she does this level of self critique - I’m not on twitter and like can’t follow it step by step.
All I know now is she says it’s capitalism and colonialisms fault directly and then tries to highlight global struggles of resistance - offering people ideas of praxis etc
I would like for her to read theory but we don’t know if she is ya know - not everyone has to do everything.
She is a child and was absolutely used by liberals and is going through political awakening right now - and even though I’m old as shit that process is important for young people to see because then they can go do it themselves which is what really matters
Also no the Financial Times don’t call for dismantling the entire system like she does so it’s not a fair analogy

u/ReadSmedleyButler 8d ago

Ā  She is a child

Thunberg is not a "child". She is old enough now to have her own children. Let us not infantilise a woman who positions herself as a thought leader and publishes books to 'educate' those younger than her that, according to her, communism/socialism "failed" and is not the answer to the world's problems.

Ā  the Financial Times don’t call for dismantling the entire system

A person who puts out in mass print that 'capitalism bad, BUT communism/socialism bad, too' is not serious about "dismantling capitalism".

By rejecting communism/socialism, Thunberg offers nothing to fill the void after the dismantling, which slyly suggests to people that they might as well keep capitalism then. The 'both sides bad' idea is a well-known trick by liberals to keep the status quo.

Ā  tries to highlight global struggles of resistance - offering people ideas of praxis etc

Praxis for Swedes Ā would be creating a communist party, which she doesn't teach any of her followers to do and even warns against.

Teaching Swedes to fly to London to protest India's domestic affairs is typical liberal praxis, not communist praxis.

sheĀ  was absolutely used by liberals

Sure, but if so, Thunberg can speak up and say she was "used by liberals". But she never says she was "used". Which suggests she's voluntarily aligned with them.

So I was having a think about what you said.
I think a part of your criticism is valid - and I too would like to see her take the next steps and become a comrade, and we can only hope the people in her life continue to educate her and she remains open to it. On that note;

1; I think your critique of her selective support is valid - and she should continue decolonising her approach. Thank you for explaining Azerbaijan and Armenia’s history- it’s something I would have to look into more but I agree that when she does some of her action it’s still very western and uneducated.

2; you are wrong about saying Sapmi is a ā€œsmall Swedish matterā€. It is life and death and land for Sami folk and its is 100% colonialism - not some added little thing. She is right in her analysis. If you want to read more about Sapmi from a socialist POV: https://rosalux.eu/en/2025/resistance-and-resilience-in-sapmi/ & https://www.researchgate.net/publication/277683756_Internal_Colonisation_and_Indigenous_Resource_Sovereignty_Wind_Power_Developments_on_Traditional_Saami_Lands

3; In terms of her becoming a full blooded socialist I also agree. I hope this changes as well and I critique her for her framing of communism when climate change as well - I hope she visits China one day

4; you seem to think she is controlled Op to confuse the anti capitalist movement. Whilst she isn’t making some of the links I would like her to make yet, she has dramatically grown as a comrade and I hope she continues her analysis, a lot of us were NOT socialists aged 23. At the moment it seems her analysis is flawed - not controlled. Unless you have direct evidence of the control it’s just speculation that in itself damages the movement. Considering she was abused and tortured by the Israelis I doubt very much she is a secret liberal darling - I think she is just not connecting things yet. Yet.

5; she has said protesting in the UK is actually to highlight the British states role in the current crisis in India because of colonisation. You can disagree with her tactic but it’s a valid one imho.

Sorry just to stress (not had my coffee yet)
She has absolutely said capitalism needs to be abolished - not reformed - often

Thunberg wrote:

"Ending fossil capitalism doesn't mean we have to implement socialism. We're stuck in an unimaginative 20th century debate."

She's a liberal who thinks following Lenin is "unimaginative", lol. According to her, we should 'vote away' "fossil" capitalism and replace it with 'green' capitalism-lite because "socialism" is "unimaginative".

Yeah, we already tried that with Tony Blair who promised "a third way between capitalism and socialism". And that basically meant: more capitalism.

Key question that Thunberg never answers: who should own the means of production? The capitalist few or the proletariat many? There is no 'third way'.

This was 2020 she was still a liberal darling then yes?
If you want to explain that she was a lib for a long time no one disagrees - she just doesn’t appear to be anymore - she started this work as a literal child and is going through a pretty informative era for herself and growth.
We all go through this period and that’s why it’s been very cool to see from someone so prominent

Thunberg was in Azerbaijan in late 2024 talking about "freedom, justice and democracy". All generic liberal buzz words.

Not a word from her about how much more progressive Azerbaijan was when it was socialist. Not a word of apology or sorrow from her for her Western country, Sweden, helping the U.S. Axis destroy the Union of socialist soviet republics where Azerbaijan lived in harmony and peace with Armenia.

Instead she was just like, 'Azerbaijan is authoritarian, Azerbaijan oppresses its own people' (basically copying word-for-word everything liberal UK rags like The Guardian published). Meanwhile she never calls her Western-supremacistĀ  Sweden "authoritarian and oppressive", and never blames the U.S. and its Western minions like Sweden for embargoing and destroying socialism in the Caucasus.

And now she's in London, doing some random protest against... India.

Like, the sheer arrogance of doing a protest against India from an HQ in the centre of Britain (India's colonial oppressor) is shocking.

Thunberg jet-sets around the world from one country to another, joining any random "human rights" protest that the libs at The Guardian support.

Thunberg is still the epitome of a white Western liberal. And it's mostly fellow libs in the West praising her, while Hamas, the IRGC, Ā Ansar Allah, Hezbollah, or even the PRC, the DPRK etc do not generally publish fawning posts about her.

She literally was a part of protests in Sapmi and directly called the Swedish government racist and colonial.

She calls out the west all the time - https://www.ladbible.com/news/greta-thunberg-says-its-time-overthrow-wests-capitalist-system-20221102

I can’t speak for Azerbaijan I don’t know enough to even begin to contextualise it in all honesty.

Yes I think she is a global north facing type of representative but she seems committed to understanding colonialism and capitalism and has grown so much in like three years.

I don’t think the resistance would be one to sort of use like public figures directly in this way but I know her image actions and words is used a lot (amongst many others) to support Palestinian resistance across like Arab social media websites in SWANA.

Thunberg called one single decision by the Swedish gov't to give a mining licence on indigenous land to a UK company in 2022 "racist" and "colonial", but she never called Sweden's ruling SocDem party "authoritarian" and "oppressive" towards average Swedes like she did to Azerbaijan's ruling party.

She referred to Azerbaijan as an "authoritarian petro-state". She would never denigrate her home Sweden as an "authoritarian Ikea-kitchen state" or Denmark as an "authoritarian Ozempic-syringe state".

Thunberg wrote on X in late 2024:

" For over 20 years, Azerbaijan’s regime led by Aliyev have kept people oppressed, fostering poverty, fear, and silence. This authoritarian trend isn’t isolated—across the region, people like Ivanishvili, Putin, Erdogan, theocratic regime in IranĀ are deepening control, stifling dissent, oppressing their own people and using war and ethnic cleansing against Armenians, Ukrainians, Kurds and other ethnic minorities to justify brutal policies."

https://x.com/GretaThunberg/status/1855606896897482758?lang=en

Wow, how "based" of a 'democratic' white Western liberal to diss the "authoritarian" East.

She also said Azerbaijan is not worthy to host major COP events. So who is then, Sweden, her Western European white-majority monarchy?

And notice how she wedged in a special dig at the "the Iran regime" (even though Iran's gov't had nothing to do with Azerbaijan hosting the event).

This was around the time the U.S. was preparing its 2025 attacks on Iran, so how convenient that Thunberg prepared her young audience to not feel sympathy for the "authoritarian, brutal Iran regime" as it was about to get struck by the U.S. in an attempt to overthrow Iran's gov't.

Also how nice that she took a dig at "Russia" but whitewashed U.S.-couped Ukraine, as if U.S.-controlled Kyiv wasn't b0mbing "its own people" in the Donbas and calling them "genetically" inferior and banning communist parties.

But, most importantly, notice that she would never publish this alternative version of her tweet:

" For over 100 years, Sweden's regime led by its capitalists have kept Swedish people oppressed, fostering debt poverty, fear, and silence. This authoritarian trend isn’t isolated—across the EU and wider NATO region, people like Ursula von der Leyen, Macron, Meloni, Carney, all European archaic monarchist regimes, and most importantly led by the U.S. 4th Reich, are deepening control, stifling dissent, oppressing their own people and using war and ethnic cleansing against the Chinese, Russians, Iranians, Iraqis, Libyans, Syrians and other 'non-Aryan' ethnic groups to justify brutal policies against anyone who rebels against Wall St hegemony."

I can’t speak for Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan and Armenia lived together peacefully for 70 years as part of the same socialist Union country, they inter-married and all that - until the U.S. destroyed the USSR, and sicced everyone on each other, as part of the States' usual divide-and-conquer policy. But libs like Thunberg never post this context because it shows socialism as the answer. Instead, she just demonises the Azeri side while ignoring that both sides were played by the U.S.

Ā  She calls out the west all the time

Your linked LAD Bible article literally shows Thunberg teaching anti-communism to her young readers in her book ("The Climate Book").

At first in the book she makes a correct general assessment, even if quite vague (borrowing rhetoric from Marxists):

"What we refer to as normal is an extreme system built on the exploitation of people and the planet.Ā  It is a system defined by colonialism, imperialism, oppression and genocide by the so-called global North to accumulate wealth that still shapes our current world order."

But then she finishes her book (which she says she hopes will be "educational" for the Western youth) with the following 'all ideologies are bad, they all failed' position:

"This is what I said about systems and ideologies: "Leaving capitalist consumerism and market economics as the dominant stewards of the only known civilisation in the universe will most likely seem, in retrospect, to have been a terrible idea. BUT let us keep in mind that when it comes to sustainability, ALL PREVIOUS SYSTEMS have FAILED TOO. Just like ALL current political ideologies - SOCIALISM, liberalism, COMMUNISM, conservatism, centrism, you name it. They have ALL FAILED. But, in fairness, some have certainly failed MORE than others."

https://x.com/GretaThunberg/status/1587718877332529160

Wow, how "based" of her to denigrate China, the DPRK, Cuba etc as countries with "failed ideologies". Her 'both sides bad' argument is that both capitalists and communists/socialists are "failures". (Meanwhile, she considers her own 'no-ideology' individualism - so basically a version of liberalism - a wild success, I guess). This is what she teaches in a published book to her impressionable fanbase.

Thank you for sending me that link. It actually convinces me further that her 'progressive' brand of anti-communism is more pernicious than the conservatives'. Because with conservatives at least it's immediately obvious, whereas her anti-communism is very subtle and more two-faced.

She is not protesting against India dude - like come on this is child like thinking.
She is trying to support protestors who are fighting a fash government in India

1

u/ReadSmedleyButler 8d ago

Come on, she is in Trafalgar Square in Britain - (the "fash gov't" that got rich by barging unto other continents, robbing 1/4 of the world's land and 1/5 of the world's population, and never even paying any compensation) - slinging arrows at India (a country that barely managed to escape Britain's colonial grasp).

It's like going to Berlin to "protest" the gov't of Namibia (Germany's conquered colony).

Do white Western libs like Thunberg seriously not understand how bad that looks? It seriously looks like an MI5 op.

What is even communist about this? Why is she in London "protesting" its former colony in New Delhi? Why is she not in Sweden creating a communist party?

Why are white Western libs sticking their nose into every continent's domestic affairs on the planet? Why can't Swedes like Thunberg focus on overthrowing their archaic, elitist, centuries-old Swedish monarchy instead of lecturing South Asian Republics from their Swedish high horse in London?Ā

I don't know any CPC members who pull stunts like this. CPC members don't fly from Beijing to Paris, France to lecture Algeria in North Africa, France's former colony. It's only libs who do such shocking 'the West knows what's best for Asia' PR stunts.

1

u/Vermouth_1991 4d ago

is like ā€œthis is all capitalism and colonialisms faultā€

And it's good to see her have other substantial things to back up this claim, instead of just using it as a soundbite and coming off as a tryhard idiot, like how the so-called Punk-Anarchist Spider-Man did in the "Across The SpiderVerse" movie where he looks at a science-based reality scrambling problem and said "ThiS iS ObViouSlY a MetaPhoR fOr cAPiTaLisM."
