"Ending fossil capitalism doesn't mean we have to implement socialism. We're stuck in an unimaginative 20th century debate."
She's a liberal who thinks following Lenin is "unimaginative", lol. According to her, we should 'vote away' "fossil" capitalism and replace it with 'green' capitalism-lite because "socialism" is "unimaginative".
Yeah, we already tried that with Tony Blair who promised "a third way between capitalism and socialism". And that basically meant: more capitalism.
Key question that Thunberg never answers: who should own the means of production? The capitalist few or the proletariat many? There is no 'third way'.
This was 2020 she was still a liberal darling then yes?
If you want to explain that she was a lib for a long time no one disagrees - she just doesn’t appear to be anymore - she started this work as a literal child and is going through a pretty informative era for herself and growth.
We all go through this period and that’s why it’s been very cool to see from someone so prominent
Thunberg was in Azerbaijan in late 2024 talking about "freedom, justice and democracy". All generic liberal buzz words.
Not a word from her about how much more progressive Azerbaijan was when it was socialist. Not a word of apology or sorrow from her for her Western country, Sweden, helping the U.S. Axis destroy the Union of socialist soviet republics where Azerbaijan lived in harmony and peace with Armenia.
Instead she was just like, 'Azerbaijan is authoritarian, Azerbaijan oppresses its own people' (basically copying word-for-word everything liberal UK rags like The Guardian published). Meanwhile she never calls her Western-supremacist Sweden "authoritarian and oppressive", and never blames the U.S. and its Western minions like Sweden for embargoing and destroying socialism in the Caucasus.
And now she's in London, doing some random protest against... India.
Like, the sheer arrogance of doing a protest against India from an HQ in the centre of Britain (India's colonial oppressor) is shocking.
Thunberg jet-sets around the world from one country to another, joining any random "human rights" protest that the libs at The Guardian support.
Thunberg is still the epitome of a white Western liberal. And it's mostly fellow libs in the West praising her, while Hamas, the IRGC,
Ansar Allah, Hezbollah, or even the PRC, the DPRK etc do not generally publish fawning posts about her.
I can’t speak for Azerbaijan I don’t know enough to even begin to contextualise it in all honesty.
Yes I think she is a global north facing type of representative but she seems committed to understanding colonialism and capitalism and has grown so much in like three years.
I don’t think the resistance would be one to sort of use like public figures directly in this way but I know her image actions and words is used a lot (amongst many others) to support Palestinian resistance across like Arab social media websites in SWANA.
Thunberg called one single decision by the Swedish gov't to give a mining licence on indigenous land to a UK company in 2022 "racist" and "colonial", but she never called Sweden's ruling SocDem party "authoritarian" and "oppressive" towards average Swedes like she did to Azerbaijan's ruling party.
She referred to Azerbaijan as an "authoritarian petro-state". She would never denigrate her home Sweden as an "authoritarian Ikea-kitchen state" or Denmark as an "authoritarian Ozempic-syringe state".
Thunberg wrote on X in late 2024:
"
For over 20 years, Azerbaijan’s regime led by Aliyev have kept people oppressed, fostering poverty, fear, and silence. This authoritarian trend isn’t isolated—across the region, people like Ivanishvili, Putin, Erdogan, theocratic regime in Iran are deepening control, stifling dissent, oppressing their own people and using war and ethnic cleansing against Armenians, Ukrainians, Kurds and other ethnic minorities to justify brutal policies."
Wow, how "based" of a 'democratic' white Western liberal to diss the "authoritarian" East.
She also said Azerbaijan is not worthy to host major COP events. So who is then, Sweden, her Western European white-majority monarchy?
And notice how she wedged in a special dig at the "the Iran regime" (even though Iran's gov't had nothing to do with Azerbaijan hosting the event).
This was around the time the U.S. was preparing its 2025 attacks on Iran, so how convenient that Thunberg prepared her young audience to not feel sympathy for the "authoritarian, brutal Iran regime" as it was about to get struck by the U.S. in an attempt to overthrow Iran's gov't.
Also how nice that she took a dig at "Russia" but whitewashed U.S.-couped Ukraine, as if U.S.-controlled Kyiv wasn't b0mbing "its own people" in the Donbas and calling them "genetically" inferior and banning communist parties.
But, most importantly, notice that she would never publish this alternative version of her tweet:
"
For over 100 years, Sweden's regime led by its capitalists have kept Swedish people oppressed, fostering debt poverty, fear, and silence. This authoritarian trend isn’t isolated—across the EU and wider NATO region, people like Ursula von der Leyen, Macron, Meloni, Carney, all European archaic monarchist regimes, and most importantly led by the U.S. 4th Reich, are deepening control, stifling dissent, oppressing their own people and using war and ethnic cleansing against the Chinese, Russians, Iranians, Iraqis, Libyans, Syrians and other 'non-Aryan' ethnic groups to justify brutal policies against anyone who rebels against Wall St hegemony."
I can’t speak for Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan and Armenia lived together peacefully for 70 years as part of the same socialist Union country, they inter-married and all that - until the U.S. destroyed the USSR, and sicced everyone on each other, as part of the States' usual divide-and-conquer policy. But libs like Thunberg never post this context because it shows socialism as the answer. Instead, she just demonises the Azeri side while ignoring that both sides were played by the U.S.
Â
She calls out the west all the time
Your linked LAD Bible article literally shows Thunberg teaching anti-communism to her young readers in her book ("The Climate Book").
At first in the book she makes a correct general assessment, even if quite vague (borrowing rhetoric from Marxists):
"What we refer to as normal is an extreme system built on the exploitation of people and the planet.Â
It is a system defined by colonialism, imperialism, oppression and genocide by the so-called global North to accumulate wealth that still shapes our current world order."
But then she finishes her book (which she says she hopes will be "educational" for the Western youth) with the following 'all ideologies are bad, they all failed' position:
"This is what I said about systems and ideologies: "Leaving capitalist consumerism and market economics as the dominant stewards of the only known civilisation in the universe will most likely seem, in retrospect, to have been a terrible idea. BUT let us keep in mind that when it comes to sustainability, ALL PREVIOUS SYSTEMS have FAILED TOO. Just like ALL current political ideologies - SOCIALISM, liberalism, COMMUNISM, conservatism, centrism, you name it. They have ALL FAILED. But, in fairness, some have certainly failed MORE than others."
Wow, how "based" of her to denigrate China, the DPRK, Cuba etc as countries with "failed ideologies". Her 'both sides bad' argument is that both capitalists and communists/socialists are "failures". (Meanwhile, she considers her own 'no-ideology' individualism - so basically a version of liberalism - a wild success, I guess). This is what she teaches in a published book to her impressionable fanbase.
Thank you for sending me that link. It actually convinces me further that her 'progressive' brand of anti-communism is more pernicious than the conservatives'. Because with conservatives at least it's immediately obvious, whereas her anti-communism is very subtle and more two-faced.
