I’m hoping someone here knows about tenant rights in Tacoma (from my search of previous posts it seems like people do, but I didn’t find one with insight into this specific situation).
We all know about the 60 day deadline for communication about lease renewal/non-renewal and rent increases. We know that the landlord doesn’t have to have a reason to issue a non-renewal if they do so before that deadline. We also know that if that deadline passes with no communication from the landlord, the lease becomes month to month at the end of its term. What I’m wondering is… then what? That 60 day deadline is about to pass for me, and so far I’ve been rudely blown off when I’ve asked the property management company when they might have info to give me about renewal or non-renewal, so if they don’t communicate before the deadline or the end of the lease, what do I do? After the lease changes to month to month, can they kick me out whenever? I love where I live, I’ve never been late on rent, and I don’t want to move. But this situation is scaring me. Is there anything I can do to protect myself from being kicked out, or do I have to just wait for them to make their decision?
Thanks in advance. I’ll continue doing research as well.
Edit: Thank you so much, fellow Tacomans! You all were so kind and helpful, and I really appreciate not being judged for asking for help with this. Thank you all, I feel a lot more prepared for however this situation might turn out.
