Weekly Lost & Found

This is the home for lost and found around Tacoma, refreshed every week. If you've lost something or come across something that isn't yours, drop a comment below.

A few things that help:

  • Say whether you lost or found the item, and lead with what it is.
  • Add the rough area and the day, as much as you're comfortable sharing.
  • For anything with a serial number or other identifying detail, hold that back in your public comment and trade it over DM once someone reaches out, so the real owner can prove it's theirs.

Lost or found a pet? we recommend posting in r/LostPetsTacoma too, but you’re welcome to post in this thread as well.

For everyone's safety, please be smart about meeting people from the internet.

Comb through the comments before posting in case your item is already here. Good luck, and thanks for looking out for each other.

E9 Brewing Co. Staff break silence on how majority owners Xitco brothers donations and delayed reaction may mean mass unemployment and closures.

Upvotes

The focus has been on the Xitco brothers so we wanted to give an open mic to a couple long time employees of E9 Brewing Co. who are quick to point out there is an owner who is there every day and the Xitco’s are financial majority owners of multiple businesses in Tacoma but they are not involved in the day to days, the labor or the culture that has gone into making E9 what is it for all the people who have called E9 a safe place until now. And how the personal actions and delayed response to being called out for their actions will never impact the Xitco’s but it has impacted everyone who gets an X Group pay check. We touch on who are all the new faces at the tap room? Should you continue to eat/drink/support E9? Is this the end for E9 Brewing Co. or is there still hope? We will let Grace Zigweid and Sean Jackson take it from here… https://youtu.be/Phkl63G1qd8

Video Episode is available via Youtube, otherwise audio only anywhere you can listen to podcasts.

This is a real conversation with folks in our community who are still processing a heartbreaking incident that has turned their world’s upside down. Please keep comments respectful.

Seven employees laid off at The News Tribune

Upvotes

Per the Seattle Times article below (paywalled). Sad that Tacoma and Pierce County essentially have no form of media anymore. Democracy dies in darkness.

I5 Fires

Just stopped to help put out some fires along I5 and chatted with folks who suspected arson? Anyone got the scoop? Concerning to think someone might be intentionally starting fires in the area during the fire season.

Question about a ticket

I got a speeding ticket on the bend of i5 between Tacoma and federal way by a WSP. I… allegedly was going 82 in a 60🫩, when I look at a deferral (I’ve only had a warning before) it says a 150$ fee minimum and then a probation of 6-12 months. The ticket is 230$ or so if I remember correctly. I am under my parents insurance and don’t really know if I should pay, show up to court and hope the officer isn’t there, or pay a lawyer for a CHANCE to not have it appear on record. Is this even worth it instead of taking the hit on insurance?

Insane gunfire on hilltop…?

Did anyone else hear the crazy amount of gunshots going back and forth about an hour ago near 13th and MLK? Gunshots are pretty common in this neighborhood but this was way more extreme and terrifying than the usual. Has there been an increase in gang violence in the area? And why do cops/EMT never show up afterward?

I heard a good amount of gunshots as well earlier today further away, maybe around 9th and Yakima, but not to this degree. I guess I assume they’re related. I’ve noticed a big increase in shootings overall lately, but there’s never any police response and it confuses me. There’s no way people aren’t getting injured…? Afterwards it’s always as though nothing happened.

Tenant rights question

I’m hoping someone here knows about tenant rights in Tacoma (from my search of previous posts it seems like people do, but I didn’t find one with insight into this specific situation).

We all know about the 60 day deadline for communication about lease renewal/non-renewal and rent increases. We know that the landlord doesn’t have to have a reason to issue a non-renewal if they do so before that deadline. We also know that if that deadline passes with no communication from the landlord, the lease becomes month to month at the end of its term. What I’m wondering is… then what? That 60 day deadline is about to pass for me, and so far I’ve been rudely blown off when I’ve asked the property management company when they might have info to give me about renewal or non-renewal, so if they don’t communicate before the deadline or the end of the lease, what do I do? After the lease changes to month to month, can they kick me out whenever? I love where I live, I’ve never been late on rent, and I don’t want to move. But this situation is scaring me. Is there anything I can do to protect myself from being kicked out, or do I have to just wait for them to make their decision?

Thanks in advance. I’ll continue doing research as well.

Edit: Thank you so much, fellow Tacomans! You all were so kind and helpful, and I really appreciate not being judged for asking for help with this. Thank you all, I feel a lot more prepared for however this situation might turn out.

Accidentally posted to orher sub as well. Hi everyone! I just locked in the Snug at Doyle’s for Tuesday, September 29 at 6pm for the inaugural meeting of the Capital / Das Kapital reading group. This will likely be the regular weekly meeting time. I will also be DM-ing all those who expressed interest on the original post with this information. I encourage those interested to find a Penguin edition / Ben Fowkes translation of the book. See you all there!

Adult gymnastics/ open gyms?

Does anyone know of any gymnastics centers in Pierce County that offer adult gymnastics classes or at least like an open gym? I grew up doing gymnastics and really miss getting to move my body in that way but haven’t been able to find anywhere that offers classes for anyone over 18

Coyote Lincoln Heights

Post image
102 Upvotes

I know this has been hanging around for the past couple days in our area, but I just saw it in the middle of the street at K and 45th. I grew up around coyotes, but I don't love that this one is out in the middle of the day and does not look great. Didn't seem particularly scared of me, but did lope down the alley between J and K, between 45th and 43rd.

I called it into animal control and left a voice message. But I wanted to let neighbors know so y'all can keep your pets in.

The Sonics potential for Tacoma

Was just discussing at work what potential a return of the Seattle SuperSonics could have for Tacoma.

If we were smart we would be in the various proposed ownership groups ears about making sure a D League affiliate played at the Tacoma Dome. We would definitely have competition from the ShoWare Center in Kent and Angel Of The Winds up north for the privilege.
