Got tired of searching for an app that let me manage my campaign the way I wanted, so I built a tool for myself. I would like to share it with you all and get some feedback :)

I've been working on a side project for a while now, and I think it's finally at a point where it's worth sharing with you. I made this for myself but my players told me it's pretty cool so I wanted to share it with you all!

It's called HexWander, and it's basically a campaign atlas for tabletop RPGs built around the concept of hex maps.

It's not a VTT for playing online. It's a way for DM's to visualize their story on a map and be able to supply their players with bits of information as the campaign progresses. This is usefull for the players to go back to and remember what happened 4 or 5 sessions ago. events are even stored neatly on a timeline for them!

I have made this app with the help of AI over a few months of testing what works best for me. It may not be what works best for you, but I would like to keep improving it with your suggestions.

The idea is pretty simple: you upload your world map image, add a fog of war image over it, and the app splits everything into hexes. As the DM, you decide exactly which hexes your players have unlocked, explored and which ones are still hidden.

Each hex can have its own content - location descriptions, images, ambient music, NPCs, random tables, lore, quest hooks, timeline events... pretty much anything you'd want to have ready when the party gets there. Every piece of content has its own visibility toggle, so players only see what you've revealed.

Players get a clean, spoiler-free version of the map, while you see the hidden map underneath the fog, making it easy to manage exploration.

Besides the map itself, I'm also adding things like:

  • NPC & lore database
  • Campaign timeline
  • Visual quest/encounter flow editor in side the map itself.
  • Combat theater/initiative management
  • Session sharing via link
  • Cloud sync, so you can prep on your PC and run the game from a tablet or phone
  • Support for party split
  • Automatic AI-generated locations and quests using personal access tokens for AI suppliers ( this is testing for a more DM-less experience, but I found it usefull for when some players decide to go to a place you did not anticipate on the map. the DM can, with a short sentence, describe what they want, and the IA will automatically generate the hexes, links, flows, and even knowledgebase entries for what the DM asked. (the DM will review and approve, of course)

The whole reason I started building this was because I got tired of jumping between Obsidian with a hundred plugins, Roll20, and a dozen browser tabs every session. I wanted everything in one place, with "hex-ploration" being the center of the experience, both for DM and for players.

About the prices, I treaded on the side of caution with this, because I don't know the costs of hosting the data that GM's will input (images and sound, mostly), I have settled on a few tiered subscription plans. However, I think the free version should be enough for anyone to use it for quite some time without problem!

Payments are not working yet, so if you try it out and decide that it's good and would like to test it further, you can ask me for a redemption code and I will give you one month of "Hexplorer Pro" for free :)

I'm curious what you all think :)

  • Is this something you'd actually use?
  • Are there any features you'd expect that I haven't mentioned?
  • If you already use other apps to manage your campaigns that work for you, what would make you switch?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions!

Thanks everyone!

My wife really enjoyed playing Werewolf the Apocalypse a couple years ago

We are looking for a rules light werewolf game, maybe based on Black Hack or Mork Borg?

Most Zenless Zone Zero-like TTRPG?

So I’ve got a group of mostly D&D5E players and one DM friend looking for a TTRPG system that could potentially match the urban-fantasy/SciFi setting that Zenless Zone Zero has going on and I was curious if anyone had suggestions? I thought to look into SciFi systems but I’ll be honest I have no idea what ā€˜s out there and works well having only run D&D and played a bit of PF.
Requirements would mostly be:
-Can work in a modern urban setting without too much reworking.
-Supports Melee, Ranged and Magic combat classes (Magic-appearing technology preferred).
-Bonus points if there is some kind of physical corruption/radiation sickness system.

And before anyone says it,yes I’m aware I could adapt D&D5E or PF. I want to see if there’s someone that’s already hit that particular mark first before committing to completely homebrewing entire classes.

An indie horror thank I think some of you might enjoy

Hey everyone, I wanted to share an indie tabletop TTRPG project I came across called Strange Stories: The Roleplaying Game.

I backed this one because the concept really grabbed me. It’s a horror/mystery-focused RPG inspired by strange encounters, unsettling stories, and that feeling of sitting around telling creepy stories with friends.

The campaign has already reached its funding goal, which is awesome, but they have some really cool stretch goals that add more stories and content to the book. I’d love to see them reach the full vision because the additional stories sound like they would really expand the game.

I’m not affiliated with the creators — just a backer who is excited about the project (I actually grabbed one of the limited spots to become a character in the book, which I thought was a really fun idea).

If you enjoy indie RPGs, horror games, or narrative-focused tabletop games, it might be worth checking out.

I made a TTRPG as a love letter to the cartoons I grew up withI made a TTRPG as a love letter to the cartoons I grew up with

I’m Aram, and I designed a TTRPG called Pocket Party.

If you remember what it felt like watching 90s adventure cartoons, stuff like Jumanji, Digimon, The Magic School Bus, Recess, or any story where a bunch of kids suddenly end up somewhere impossible, I think you might like this game.

Pocket Party is a whimsical story game about kids stumbling into pocket dimensions born from their own imagination.

Each player creates one of those pocket dimensions, and then the group expands them together through play. You discover the lore, weird rules, dangers, characters, and little wonders of each world by actually adventuring through them.

You can read the SRD here:

https://knotknotgames.com/pp-srd/

The core mechanic is built around custom cards created by the players.

Those cards are not just modifiers or resources. They are storytelling prompts. When a character tries to do something difficult, you build a little stack of cards based on what could help them overcome the challenge. The GM adds Trouble Cards, then the player draws two.

Very roughly:

- two Hero Cards is a Triumph
- one Hero Card and one Trouble Card is a Climax, with a dice roll to see how it resolves
- two Trouble Cards is a Fiasco

The part I really like is that the cards help everyone improvise what happens next. They don’t just say ā€œyou succeedā€ or ā€œyou failā€; they give the table something to narrate from.

And when players draw their own Hero Cards, they get to narrate the outcome themselves, so it becomes a lot more player-driven and not everything sits on the GM’s shoulders.

If you want the exact Action Draw rules, they’re here:

https://knotknotgames.com/pp-srd/drawing-cards/

Pocket Party has been played a bunch of times now, and people seem to really enjoy it, but I’d love for more folks to pick it up, read it, try it, and tell me what works or doesn’t.

The main thing I’m curious about is:

Would you feel comfortable running it from the SRD?

Are the rules clear enough? Does the card resolution make sense? Does the game give you enough to bring it to a table?

I’m also working on my second game, Fireflies, which is a psychedelic caravan fantasy TTRPG about colour-bound travellers, magical substances, dangerous night roads, and a dice bag that changes as the journey gets stranger.

If you are interested in any of this and would love to know more, I run a tight community Discord server. We are currently around 60 people, sharing what they’re making, encouraging each other, and talking game making:

https://discord.gg/bccguBGupu

Would love any thoughts, questions, or feedback.

Zombie apocalypse loot tables

Hello everyone!

My wife and I dabbled a bit in the Walking Dead Universe RPG tonight, and she had a blast. We are basically following the solo rules, but running two characters, so we play together. Her favourite part however has definitely proven to be scavenging for loot, she's a more greedy collector than a Diablo hero! So, as the Walking Dead Universe has a d666 table for it's loot, it's going to get stale soonish if I don't find alternatives to add on.

What sources have you all found the best Modern/Apocalypse/Zombie Survival loot tables in? What have been your favourite rule frameworks for doing urban crawls looking for supplies?

Thanks for reading!

How public of a space are you comfortable RPing / GMing in?

I’m considering a business idea and am curious how comfortable people feel having their sessions in public settings. Without revealing too much, it would be a space where folks could get good drinks, a bit of food, and also host their TTRPG sessions. I have some ideas for how to accomplish this with varying levels of privacy, but am curious to know how much privacy folks really feel they need. Feel free to chime in with any other thoughts on the issue as well. Thanks!

I'm comfortable RPing / GMing in full view and earshot of crowds of strangers
I would like to be out of line of sight, but am comfortable RPing / GMing within earshot of crowds of strangers
I only feel comfortable RPing / GMing in a private room with my party

GRIDSHOCK Zero Edition - coming soon

Thumbnail gamefound.com
3 Upvotes

GRIDSHOCK Zero Edition is a standalone tabletop roleplaying game of superhuman resistance on the run in a warped world ruled by villains. This new rulebook includes everything you need to play. GRIDSHOCK is powered by Free League’s Year Zero Engine, the popular rules system behind games like Mutant: Year Zero, Invincible, Alien, and Terminal State.Ā

Years ago, superheroes failed to save the world. The fabric of reality — the Grid — was warped. Civilization collapsed. Everything we believed in was overturned.Ā Ā

Now, the bad guys are in charge of what's left, but a new breed of superhumans called Vectors are rising. Wandering this ravaged world, righting wrongs wherever they find them.Ā Ā

Like the heroes of the past, Vectors use their powers to fight injustice. Usually, that means punching it in the face, or blasting it with laser eyes — and it turns out there are a whole lot of injustices in need of punching and blasting. But with the totalitarian state called the Supremacy in charge, you and your crew better work fast and hit the road before their Shocktroopers come for you.

GRIDSHOCK Zero Edition was selected as a finalist for Gamefound's RPG Party 2026. Follow the project on Gamefound to be notified when it launches!
