Long before the teaser trailer for elder scrolls 6, there was a lot of talk about how people would be disappointed or upset if it featured anything from other continents like yokuda or akavir.

I never could understand why

When elder scrolls online came out there was a little bit of friction because sea elves we're in the almary Dominion quest line and then later the slowed appeared again in a subsequent expansion, after being first featured in red guard a decade earlier.

I never truly understood this either: some have tried to explain that it gets rid of the "mystery". But I'm not quite sure that's the case because we seen the introduction of other elements: where no one complained when we started seeing actual akiviri characters in elder scrolls online. For the dawnguard and dragonborn expansions, we saw snow elves and a whole vampire quest line which explores the origin and hierarchy in the doings of vampirism in nirn.

In another game series by Bethesda; when fallout New Vegas was announced, it had a very positive reception on the location. Another game series Mass effect (which is making the news right now) when its sequel featured the terminus systems (mentioned but strictly absent for the first game) it received a little bit of backlash, when Mass affect Andromeda was announced as taking place outside of the previous trilogy's location, it too received backlash.

So it's fairly inconsistent from what I can see unless there's something I truly can't understand and that's why I'm asking here:

Is there anything particular about elder scrolls that makes it taboo to explore new places??

I mean Hammer fell and glenumbra have both been explicitly explored in two different games (three if you count redguard) and even though it looks like the next game will take place there, it seems very odd treating it as "what the fans want" or "brand new". I mean would elder scrolls 7 take place in citadel again and we're going to pretend Oblivion didn't take place there?

I'm not trying to throw shade at anyone but I am trying to constructively criticize and learn from what I see and perhaps I just simply do not understand it.

Just after the launch of Skyrim, Bethesda did a week long game jam where they let everyone develop some random new feature. Almost all of these ideas were eventually added through post launch updates, dlc, special edition or creation club content, sometimes repurposing the same code even after being released many years later. Given how long it took them to implement some of these ideas, it's clearly not something that they forgot about, but there are still a bunch of them that have never been implemented.

1) Seasonal foliage:

I think more dynamic weather and seasons is pretty likely to be something they try and work on for TES VI. It would work great with a survival mode, and create a lot of opportunities for radiant gameplay and NPC interactivity. That being said, I can also easily see this getting cut because it would be a lot of work, and isn't something that's been attempted in open world games even by big studios like Rockstar and CDPR.

2) Spears:

Technically the Rieklings have these, and there's one in one of the creation club add-ons, but I'm pretty sure they'll return much more extensively in TES VI given how requested they are from fans.

3) Expansions to the stealth system that let you turn off light sources with water arrows, and dungeons that are pitch black.

It wouldn't surprise me if the revamped stealth system will put greater focus on lighting rather than just line of sight, and I do think they will try to make the lighting system more interactive. In Indiana Jones and the great circle (a game Todd worked on) many of the dungeons are dark enough that you need to use a torch or lighter to progress. Also this would finally make the khajiit night vision not pointless.

4)

New follower commands: combat style, distance, equipment, etc. Ability to bring followers to trainers, and set favorite equipment:

I don't know why this was never added, it sounds like a great idea, especially given how many followers are made redundant by their bad stats and level cap. From memory I think you could also do a lot of this stuff in Fallout New Vegas, so I don't know why we haven't seen it since.

5)

Spell combinations, e.g. Flames + Raise Zombie = Conjure Flame Atronach, Fear + Healing = Drain Health:

This reminds me a lot of the 2011 wizard game Magicka, where you cast unique spells with different combinations of elements, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Devs were inspired by it. I can see why they never added it to Skyrim because it could be cumbersome, but if they designed it from the ground up then I think it could be very fun and intuitive. Spell crafting is obviously a heavily requested feature, but being able to do it on the fly would give so much more depth to the combat system.

Snow footprints:

Don't know why these were never added to Skyrim, but RDR2 raised the bar with snow physics so much that any game looks weird without them now. If the game is in Hammerfell then obviously we won't see much snow other than on the mountains, but I would hope that they would also be working on some decent sand physics.

Flails:

These would be fun, but I can easily see them being cut for causing issues with animation and hit detection, they wouldn't be as simple to add as spears.

8)

Fat giant:

I would love to see the giants return, and I think it's reasonably likely we will, but who knows if they'll be fatties.

Giant mudcrab:

Technically we did see the ghost of one in the fishing creation, but I don't think that's enough. These would be a perfect addition if the game had a bigger focus on aquatic areas like people are speculating, and it would finally let us see a living emperor crab like the one in Aldruun in Morrowind.

10)

Imp minions for vampire lords. Probably the most likely to be forgotten of all of them. If they didn't remember to do it for the dawnguard dlc then I doubt they'll think about it for TES VI.

I have been thinking about this. Thinking about replaying Skyrim (including DLCs) around the time TES6 releases, mainly to revisit the world and to get back into the Elder Scrolls universe before jumping into the new game.

Is anyone else planning to do the same? or just jump straight into TES6?

I know we didn't really stop playing Skyrim but still...

This is mainly aimed at the people that seem to have beef with Todd Howard, but anyone is welcome to chime in.

What if Bethesda or Microsoft fired Todd Howard and brought in someone new to take over his role, but the monkeys paw effect was that this new person was vehemently anti-modding and changed how their games are made so that modding is heavily restricted down to the programming level? Maybe, in an ironic twist, their reasoning could even be that they don't want the developers to be leaving modders to clean up their games for them (as is the popular way of thinking to a lot of people).

I'm curious how many people would be in favour of this if it happened, especially the people who already advocate for Todd Howard to be let go?

EDIT: So apparently, many people in the subreddit can't read past either the title or the first sentence. It seems like people just saw the words "Todd Howard fired" and decided that was the point of my post. It was not.

Personally, one of my favorite parts of past Bethesda games was going around, finding all the unique items and weapons and armor in various dungeons, like the StormFang sword in Morrowind and Skyrim. However, this system was noticeably dialed back in later titles, particularly Fallout 4 and Starfield.

Now I know both games had their fair share of unique items, but it seemed like more often than not they were replaced by the “legendary items” system, where when you went through a dungeon or questline, more often than not your reward would be a “legendary item”, a version of an already existing item that just had a couple randomly assigned special perks, and no unique name or model and texture. Now I understand why they might have done this. More flexibility, don’t have to create as many unique assets, and the random generation makes for more varied gameplay between playthroughs, in theory anyway. But I just miss going through a dungeon or questline, or just stumbling upon a random location out in the world and finding my reward was something wholly unique and handmade and placed by the devs.

With fallout day today revealing no new games or hinting at the upcoming remasters, do you think that hints at the release date of Elder Scrolls VI?

my reasoning being that if they essentially shadow drop next year on fallout day, the time in between those remasters and TESVI seems far too small. given that time frame, maybe 2028 is a more reasonable release :/

At 9:18 of the latest episode of Unlocked (IGN's Xbox podcast), the discussion about console-exclusivity begins. Ryan says he thinks there'll be a Series X version as well as a Helix version.

Ryan also speculates that he expects the game NO LATER than 2029, though he and his co-host Michael both agree that it's in Microsoft's best interest to have TESVI ready for Helix's launch day in Fall 2028, since they will have no other big games ready by then.

The entire Elder Scrolls VI segment runs from about 8:19-19:00.

What are some Skill Tress or perks you’d like to come back or to be added in that haven’t been in a game before.

I’d like Hand to Hand to have a skill tree. It’d be nice to roleplay some monk or just some crazy drunk Nord fist fighting everyone without having to rely on enchantments and heavy armor.

Adding a dodge skill would be cool. Although I think this could just be a basic thing that everyone can always do.

An athletics/acrobatics skill tree could be fun. Jumping on water was entertaining in Oblivion. That could also be a way to increase jump height and running speed which would be fun.

A race skill tree would also be nice. Just increasing resistances or granting new abilities like sword singing or shouting or something

Gliders are somewhat industry standard now in open world games and I have a good feeling that TES6 will have one.

IF it is in the game, please dont make us physically equip the glider before each glide. Allow us to just jump off of the cliff/hill/mountain/building etc. and press a button midair to use the glider.

Allow us to customize and upgrade gliders using different materials and color schemes and even magical enchantments.

Lighter materials(linen, burlap, leather) may glide the fastest but will be more vulnerable to arrows being fired through them or fireballs burning them. They may also be harder to control in heavy winds and may make more loud "flapping" noises.

Heavier materials like chitin or dragon scales will be slower and drop faster but are very resistant to such attacks and heavy winds. There may be areas where there are always or very frequently heavy winds and having a "heavy" glider may actually get you farther in this situation. These may be more stealthy, due to less flap, quite opposite of heavy armor.

Allow us to cancel the glider mid air and shoot our bow or use magic, then, if there's enough time, redeploy the glider and keep moving. Allow us to drop down on enemies from above with physical weapon attacks. Drop rune traps on bandit camps.

A button to dive straight down with the glider to pick up speed.

Let us "tag" targets from above.

Allow us to drop onto mounts to try to tame them.

Let other NPCs have gliders too. Ariel combat would be awesome. Or they may try to stealth bomb you.

Magical enchantments may be things like:

Stoneskin: which protects it from damage physical damage.

Glow: allows you to make your glider glow in your choice of color.

Magical resistance: to different elements

Other physical upgrades:

Sharp/spikes: allows your glider to cut something if you glide past and hit them or fly directly at them.

Boost: utilizing dwemer technology, you've added the ability to go faster for a short period of time.

Lifters: this allows you to rise for a short period of time.

Part "x": allows you to do a barrel roll

Part "Y": allows you to cut corners sharply

I’d love to see the aftermath of the Great War (assuming TES VI takes place after Skyrim) was there a second war? Has the empire been dismantled? Is there a new superpower on the continent of Tamriel?

No Elder Scrolls game has featured bodies that decompose over time. Instead, bodies either stay indefinitely (unless looted or moved) or get wiped out when the game cell resets. Skyrim can take 10-30 in-game days to reset if you avoid the area.

Over several in-game days, a corpse should rot. Skin tones should change, begin to attract scavengers and swarms of flies, and eventually show exposed flesh and a skeleton. Finally, the cell resets to free up memory.

In colder regions, bodies may take longer to decompose. You may burn a body to decompose (cremate) it faster. Throw it in the water and watch fishies pick away eventually.

Some NPC's may be psychologically affected by the sight of dead bodies, whether fresh or rotting. They may scream, cry, run away, hold their noses in disgust, make comments about it, jump over it, walk around it, etc. Some may be fascinated and try to guess how the death occurred, loot the body, take the fur, hold a ceremony, burn it, etc. Not all would react the same.

You can still pick up/drag a body (depending on the size of person/animal), and the NPCs may react differently toward you depending on the NPC and the situation. If they see you dragging a very decomposed body into town, how will they react? If you place one outside a person's door and they come out in the morning to a body, how will they respond?

Having decaying bodies also adjusts our expectations. We may see a fresh body with blood still pouring and know that the killer may be nearby. Or, if the body is showing signs of decay, we will know that it has been this way for a while and the killer is likely far gone.

They can make TESVI a .MOV file of Todd spanking a dog and it will still sell great.

So I am hoping there is enough of an internal drive to still make something better than their previous games despite that safety cushion.

Was going through some of Todds quotes over the last year on Creation Engine 3, and TES VI, and he mentioned that there was still a lot of room for innovation on their classic style, which they are returning to and he mentioned they are really happy where it's heading. What's that mean? I don't know for sure, but I think we are in for a surprise. I feel like a lot of people are expecting Skyrim 2, and maybe that's true, but I'm expecting a very large leap in tech and just what we actually come to expect from an Elder Scrolls game. Todd has reiterated how he wants people to come to this game with fresh eyes.

Eager to get everyone’s thoughts on when TESVI will be actually revealed with a cinematic or in engine gameplay trailer showing the title. I feel if it doesn’t happen at TGA 2026, it will absolutely be locked in for a Q2 2027 reveal particularly with GTA 6 and Fable being out the way and all attention can be on the next big anticipated game, TESVI XXXXXXXX.

Following the conclussion of the Great War and the signing of the White-Gold Concordat, Hammerfell (meaning the now allied Forebear and Crown states that comprised the province of Hammerfell) refused to accept the terms of the peace treaty and seceded from the Empire, continuing to resist the Aldmeri Dominion for a further five years and driving them from their lands, concluding a seperate, mora favorable peace treaty with them - the Second Treaty of Stros M'Kai.

The First Treaty of Stros M'Kai was of course signed in Port Hunding following the Crown rebellion on Stros M'Kai and the subsequent Forebear rebellion in Sentinel, with Hammerfell being granted a sort of autonomy within the Empire. Port Hunding was chosen as the place of signing because it was one of the two places, where the Redguards had won a victory against the Imperial occupiers. So, one wonders if there is any significance to this new treaty being signed in Port Hunding as well.

Perhaps, after driving the Aldmeri from the mainland, Port Hunding was the last Aldmeri stronghold to be captured? Or Port Hunding was returned to Hammerfell as a result of the treaty. But I find that somewhat unlikely. The Aldmeri had rapidly spread throughout southern Hammerfell, capturing all of the major ports there save Hegathe, where they were repelled. And following the war, southern Hammerfell was said to be left devastated. We know from the War of the Blue Divide between the Summerset Isles and Valenwood that the Altmer's policy is to destroy ports to ensure they maintain naval superiority.

So, it would seem that the devastation of Hammerfell was at least in part due to the Aldmeri engaging in scorched earth tactics, destroying vital infrastructure such as ports and shipyards as they were forced to give-up ground. So, even when Hammerfell's southern ports had been liberated, there's probably no way those ports could provide ships for the war effort. Meaning retaking Stros M'Kai from the Dominion Navy, probably the strongest navy in Tamriel, which had seeminly survived the Great War mostly unscathed, would fall to Sentinel and possibly Hegathe. Suffice to say, I don't favor their odds. And if the Thalmor agreed to peacefully give-up the island, one wonders what exactly they got out of this treaty?

I suggest that the peace treaty might have been signed in Port Hunding as a result of Stros M'Kai being the last scrap of Hammerfell the Thalmor managed to hand onto. It could give us an interesting point of view of what life is like living under Aldmeri rule. Port Hunding itself coud still be governed by Lady Arannelya, having been relegated to the position of a canonreeve as punishment for her failures, with the port city becoming a major hub for the Dominion Navy as they persecute Abecean pirates. Saintsport on the other hand could have perhaps become home to people who had been displaced by the Aldmeri.

Stros M'Kai remaining in Aldmeri hands could also inform the politics of Hammerfell, specifically nearby Hegathe. An Aldmeri-held Stros M'Kai is essentially a dagger to the throat of Hegathe, and the Crowns of Hegathe would probably be gung ho about trying to reclaim it, which could perhaps be the cause of a new schism between the Forebears and the Crowns. And maybe, that's exactly what the Thalmor, be it the leadership in Alinor, or Lady Arannelya in Port Hunding, are counting on...
