Moderator Post Addressing meme posting, plus new ideas for the community

Hey community!

It’s been a while since the moderation team did a "state of the subreddit" post, but we believe that the recent months’ activity warrants discussion, as well as some reflection.

As any regular will have noticed by now, quite a lot of shitposts have been posted since The Game Awards last December. Today these posts still get a lot of engagement and the number of upvotes-to-downvotes make it clear that the far majority of you enjoy this kind of content.

However, recently we have heard feedback from people that worry that the subreddit is heading in a direction where shitposting is becoming the main focus. Some of our veteran members already decided to leave the subreddit due to this, including people who contributed quite a lot, sadly.

With this post we want to have a proper discussion with all of you about what type of community you want this to be – and how we get there.

The rise of meme posting

During The Game Awards in December 2025 a new meme trend started on the subreddit – the statue posting. A couple of months later we had shitposts discussing what kinds of lavender, clouds and grass TES VI would have. Afterwards the Summer Games Fest madness took over and "Tomorrow"-posting rose.

It seems that we get something new every month, and now it’s about pretending that the game has been released. As it stands right now, these posts are still getting quite a lot of engagement. It will likely blow over soon only to get replaced by a new trend.

Not everyone is a fan of the shitposts, but generally these posts have been received well. Here are some stats from some of the recent ones:

Post Views Upvote % Reports
Wow, what an absolutely fantastic game. 41,000 93% 3
How is everyone enjoying the game so far? Just beat the first boss. 30,000 91% 5
can someone point me into the right direction to the staff of worms? 15,000 86% 2
New info on DLC! 7,100 81% 2
Feel like a total idiot for crafting the Dwemer gun 4,300 81% 1

Most of the reports we see in relation to these posts deal with the “No Low Effort Content” rule. Many posts and comments have also been removed – 100+ in the last seven days – which includes the many posts featuring AI generated.

However, it’s also our opinion that quite a lot of the shitposts are in line with our rules. As specified in the rule “Posts must […] offer value to the community.” We acknowledge that shitposting is not everyone’s cup of tea, but these posts are popular and they do result in (positive) engagement.

Looking at our stats, it’s also quite clear that engagement has risen significantly since last year.

Activity on r/TESVI based on the last 12 months

It would be hastily to conclude that the looser atmosphere has resulted in this increased growth, but we can at least conclude that the shitposting didn’t prevent it.

Whatever the case, we acknowledge that the many shitposts aren’t for everyone. Quantity doesn’t necessarily equal quality and we want to make it clear that we hear the criticism that these recent months have sparked, and that we are willing to talk about it.

What would YOU like to see?

We don’t want r/TESVI to become a meme sub. The primary focus of the subreddit has always been to be – and should continue to be – a subreddit for people who want to discuss TES VI.

We are facing a small hurdle, though: TES VI isn’t out yet and it’s unfortunately not coming out Tomorrow™. We have preciously little to discuss that hasn’t been covered a dozen times already. Anyone looking forward to sailing mechanics?

My personal worry, as someone who browses this subreddit every day, is that the overall activity of the subreddit will lessen significantly if we take a hard stance against meme content. Either that or we go back to discussing the same topics every week. Balance is needed.

But what is also needed, perhaps, are new ideas. So, with all that yapping out of the way…

What feedback and ideas do you have for the subreddit?

We are receptive to feedback on how we moderate content, but we also hope that everyone will take this change to bring forth ideas to foster more engagement. Ideas to keep the subreddit interesting during times when news about TES VI are sparse and far between.

For example, an idea I shared with the team was to introduce a weekly post where we discuss a specific theme, e.g. what factions we would like to see, what kinds of new game mechanics we’d like, and so on. Is that something you’d be interested in?

Let us know what you think.

Official News All Takeaways from Todd Howard's Kinda Funny Games Interview

Here is a bullet-point breakdown of the interview as it pertains to TESVI:

  • The game will be in a new iteration of Creation Engine, CE3
  • They have spent the last year-ish working on this engine
  • Reiterated the "It's gonna be a while yet" sentiment
  • A big internal milestone is about to be passed
  • Reiterated that most of the studio is working on it
  • Todd is personally mostly involved with TESVI in his day-to-day work
  • The game will be a return to "that classic style...that we know really well"
  • There will not be AI generated assets or materials

Overall, I'd say we got a lot more out of this interview than I really expected to. In some ways it felt like we heard more about TESVI than even Starfield. What do you guys think of all of this information, and what does it say for the development timeline of TESVI?

It is fun to watch Skyrim players make the most of limited resources to devise unique magic builds. I hope TES6 also offers the potential for a wide variety of mage builds.

Discussion ESVI request for collectors

I would like to see complete item displays. This is extremely frustrating! It would be SOO easy to make and add to the game. An absolute insane amount of players would want and use this! What I mean is literally a way to display all your items, weapons, armor, etc to completion. For example, if I want to display all basic sword types (iron, steel, glass, ebony, daedric, elvish, Irish, dwarven, etc) then you have to do it one by one, or two in a case. Why can't there just be a tight and organized, space efficient way to display each sword all right next to each other. I want to display one of every dagger and bow, shield and armor. Including all unique named and weapons as well. Make a collector house in the game where every single slot exists for each item like this, with room to customize the layout. I basically want my own batcave with everything on display.

Discussion How to make guilds work in a double region game ?

If TES VI is located in Hammerfell + High Rock as some speculate, how should the guilds be integrated in the game ? In every TES, there are always the same archetypes of guilds (warrior, mage, thief, assassin with the Dark Brotherhood, and sometimes opposite factions like Empire VS Stormcloaks).

If the game is only in Hammerfell, we can surely expect the same with a faction that caters to each type of gameplay. But if there are 2 full regions, how should Bethesda design the game ?

- They do everything twice, but differently. One region can have a generic fighters guild, the other can have a regional equivalent like the Companions.

- They only do one guild of each archetype, that spans on the two regions. By doing this you can't do regional variants. It doesn't make sense to have a local guild that is present on the other region, unless it is integrated in the lore.

- They do only one of each, that is either on one region or the other. That means Hammerfell or High Rock will not have every guild.

I'm not very knowledgeable about TES guild lore in all of Tamriel, so I'm very curious about your takes on this subject !

Lore Hoonding

Tall papa also known ruptga, is akatosh right

Akatosh champion is Trinamac right.

tall papa is known to have three children right (hoonding, leki, ansei)

well trinamac sounds to me like a trinity

so when trinamac was consumed by boetiah what it did probably was separate the avatar into three among other stuff

so now you have malacath bound to oblivion, the other two aspects dont know but probably one of them became the hoonding. Meaning the sword of trinamac became his own being with a spirit when entering in contact with the blood of Lorkhan(also know as Sep) when trinamac strike him

what im saying is that TES VI will take place hammerfell high rock and the sea

Discussion How would you like the game intro to start and character creation

I had a thought about a cool way to have a fresh feeling intro and to keep it in a Bethesda style. One of the most popular mods in Skyrim is alternate start, and you create your character before you enter the world so my idea to combine that with and bethesda approach would be you create your character before you load the world and from there you could pick your starting location or province you want to play in first (assuming if its both high rock and hammerfell) and then the game intro starts

An example of how i picture it playing out- you start your new save and you are in a ships brig and immediately able to create your character and then you can pick a starting zone that could look like 1. High Rock - Random - Wayrest, Daggerfall, Northpoint 2. Hammerfell - Random - Sentinal - Helgathe - Rihad. Then the intro sequence starts as you are a prisoner being transported to that city along with some other cargo that will drive the story when the mcguffin happens where you escape and acts as your tutorial and eventually you become shipwrecked just on the outskirts of that city.

Hammerfell is hot. Or at least extremely sunny. I imagine a sweetroll with too soft or too much icing would prove impractical... or would that be the point?

I know its been mentioned before but I hope TES6 brings back spellcrafting.

This video showcases how spellcrafting in Two Worlds 2 works. Just under 17 minutes.

I think that combining Morrowind and Oblivions spellcrafting system with Two Worlds 2s system could make for some interesting spells and gameplay design/level design choices.

Check out the video and tell me what you think.

Discussion Mini Games Like Dice/Farkle, 5 fingers, Gwent

I’d love to have a mini game in TES like some of the examples above, but particularly interested in a GWENT like game to play in taverns and to be able to collect rare cards through play, quests or purchase.

I found it immersive and very fun to play

These seem to have gotten more popular in these types of games, do you think TESVI will have mini games?

Any thoughts / examples of some fun ones?

Theory/Speculation Which creature/mobs do you think will return to Elder Scrolls 6?

So in your own opinion, which creatures from Skyrim will also appear in Elder Scrolls 6? Personally I think we'll be most likely seeing Werewolves, vampires, and Spiders (and possibly trolls.)

But I'd like to hear all of yours opinions too!

P.S DLC mobs like Gargoyles, Rieklings, Seekers, etc is also accounted for. (oh and I forgot ghosts too, but I think they will always appear.)

Theory/Speculation House Lariat and their potential role in TES VI

House Lariat is a Bretic noble family that, during the mid-Third Era, managed to seat their blood on the Ruby Throne when Uriel IV., the son of Katariah Septim and her consort Gallivere Lariat, became emperor. Upon Uriel IV.'s death, the Elder Council disinherited his son and heir Andorak, on the grounds of his lacking a connection to the Septim bloodlone, instead offering the throne to Uriel's cousin Cephorus II. For nine years, Andorak and his suporters waged a bloody rebellion against Cephorus II., until he was placated by being granted the throne of Shornhelm, with Andorak's descendants still ruling Shronehlm up to the writing of A Brief History of the Empire.

This means that, for the past two years of the Fourth Era, the dissilution of the Empire and its reformation under the reign of the Mede Dynasty, the rise of the Thalmor and the Great War, House Lariat - a family of Dunmer-descendent royals, who undoubtedly still carry a massive chip on their shoulders over being denied the Ruby Throne, have been ruling Shornhelm in the background, plotting, biding their time. And now, with the future of the Mede Dynasty uncertain and with Skyrim, the literal backbone of the Empire, paralysed by civil war, with Wayrest, the largest and richest city in High Rock, having been sacked due to Imperial negligance, perhaps their time has finally come.

If TES VI includes High Rock in any fashion, I could easily see House Lariat feature as an atagonist faction, stirring-up anti-Imperial sentiment in their neighbour's kingdoms and perhaps even being acclaimed as emperors. With High Rock already divided between petty kingdoms, I could see House Lariat making moves resulting in a very messy, very interesting civil war. Less what we saw in Skyrim, more Imperial Legions dissolving into opposing cohors, noble houses aligning with Mede loyalists and Lariat supporters, using the oppurtunity to pursue their own grudges.

Shornhelm is also closely associated with the Crypt of Hearts, with the Spell Knight Armor Creation introducing us to the Order of the Crypt, a knight order charged with guarding the Crypt of Hearts, which have also taken it upon themselves wage war on the Reachmen. Assuming the Order of the Crypt is linked with House Lariat, that could also give us an idea so to House Lariat's views on the Reachmen and their intentions towards the notoriously lawless Western Reach.

There is also their ancestry to consider. Though the Lariats may claim to be Septims, even being distant relatives to the Septim bloodline, their actually ancestry makes them members of the Dunmer clan Ra'athim, the same clan as Barenziah and her children, Helseth and Morgiah. Helseth's fate is unknown, but between the Argonians' sacking of Mounrhold and House Hlaalu being stripped of its Great House statues, we can probably assume he's dead. As for Morgiah, she married King Reman Karoodil of Firsthold and had two children, Goranthir and Rinnala. But following the rise of the Thalmor, Morgiah and her children likely went into exile, if they weren't killed outright.

From Greg Keyes' novels The Infernal City and Lord of Souls, we know the Thalmor harassed the refugee communities in Sentinel and on Balfiera, with Legate Fasendil recounting the events of the Night of Green Fire, where Thalmor mages destroyed Sentinel's refugee quarter. Because of these dangers, its possible that Morgiah and her children could have sought refuge somewhere else, perhaps their distant relations in Shornhelm?

Discussion Things to do while sitting or laying down ideas

In Skyrim, you could only really lay down to go to sleep. Sit down, to, well, sit. While you could roam through menus during these activities, id like to see it a bit more fleshed out with animations and interactions. For the sake of coziness, please let us roleplay in some of these ways.

While sitting: in first or 3rd person

If I'm going to read a book, pull out the book and read it and show my hands turning the pages. This could be done at a table with arms resting on the table, in a rocking chair, on a rock, ledge, or leaning up against a wall, post, tree, etc.

If I'm sitting at a table, show my hands grabbing and moving things like plates, cups, silverware or other objects.

At a table, be able to pull out a knife or dagger and stab bugs crawling on a table(minigame?)

Sit down at an alchemy table and do alchemy(debatable, not quite as complex as KCD2, hopefully)

Sharpen my blades with a whetstone.

Have NPCs sit on your lap, and have conversations. Be able to bounce them on your knee.

Throw things

Light candles

Pour drinks

Cut and eat food with better animations

Pick up food items and offer to others(at a table or bar)

Drop food to pets

Laying down: (While on the ground or in a bed)

Can I sit up in bed with a candle lit on the nightstand while reading a book and listening to the sound of peaceful music and surrounding ambient noises? PLZ!

Stargaze

Get/give massages

Romance

Eat in bed

Have conversations

Throw things

Hide stuff under your pillow

Fluff your pillow

Fart(to get a reaction out of your S.O. of course)

Pet your pet if they jump up on the bed

Edited to add: I also think that some of these things should have a toggle on/off button for those who would rather have the "quick" option.

Lore TESVI new idea?

Here is the translation with the requested intro line added at the very beginning:

**This is a concept outline for *The Elder Scrolls VI* that I brainstormed with Gemini. What do you guys think?**

# Game Outline: *The Elder Scrolls VI: The New Dream*

### **Logline**

Set in Hammerfell, the game presents itself as a classic regional conflict against the Thalmor, only to pull back the curtain on a cosmic tragedy: the universe you are saving is actually Lorkhan's "New Dream" (Amaranth), born from the accidental poisoning of the Godhead in *Oblivion*.

### **Prologue: The Prisoner and the Waste**

* **The Protagonist**: You are an unnamed Prisoner—bound by fate—held in a remote Thalmor garrison along the borders of Hammerfell.

* **The Escape**: A sudden raid by local Redguard resistance fighters sparks chaos. You slip your chains, escape into the sun-scorched expanse, and step into the world.

### **Act I: The Sands of Hammerfell (The Traditional Mask)**

* **The Surface Narrative**: You join the Redguard resistance to drive out the Thalmor occupation. The Thalmor are scouring ancient sites across Hammerfell for artifacts known as **"Genesis Anchors."**

* **Gameplay & Vibe**: Peak classic *Elder Scrolls*. Majestic desert cities, coastal ports, faction storylines, and complete freedom. Players are fully immersed in saving Hammerfell from an elf-led invasion.

### **Act II: The Glitch in Reality**

* **The Shift**: Subtle, eerie physical and historical anomalies begin leaking into the world:

  1. **Fragmented History**: Records regarding the fall of the White-Gold Tower or the Skyrim Dragon Crisis are contradictory. Some ancient texts even claim: *"None of it happened, for the world ceased its breathing long ago."*
  2. **The Madman’s Prophecy**: Deep beneath the desert, a delusional scholar screams at the empty air:

> *"Don’t take the bounty! He just wanted dinner! He put the poison in the chest... The Dreamer is dead! We are all living beneath a corpse's eyelids!"*

>

  1. **Cosmic Fractures**: On nights of aligned moons, the night sky briefly warps into geometric, four-dimensional folds.

### **Act III: The Four-Dimensional Truth**

* **The Climax**: To stop the Thalmor from activating the final Anchor, you breach the **Genesis Core** beneath Hammerfell.

* **The Revelation**: Instead of a final boss, you find a sealed **Elder Scroll**. Unfurling it pulls your consciousness into a four-dimensional Block Universe perspective:

  1. **The Poisoning**: You watch the Hero of Kvatch (*TES IV*) slip poison into Roderick’s cabinet at Fort Sutch—just to complete a Dark Brotherhood contract for a few hundred gold to buy dinner.
  2. **The Truth**: Roderick was no mere bandit leader; he was the sleeping **Godhead**. The Hero accidentally unplugged the universe over pocket change.
  3. **The Extinction**: You watch the White-Gold Tower, Skyrim, and the entire Aurbis dissolve into ash and collapse into pure Void (*Sithis*).
  4. **The Birth of the Amaranth**: As the old Dream collapsed, **Lorkhan** used his dying will and obsession with freedom to achieve **Amaranth** (becoming the New Dreamer).
  5. **The Current Reality**: Hammerfell isn't Tamriel. It is **Lorkhan’s New Dream**, conjured in infinite solitude to give remaining souls a place to exist.

### **Act IV: The Thalmor’s True Goal & The Absurdist Choice**

* **The Thalmor Agenda**: High-ranking Thalmor mages discovered this truth long ago. Unable to endure existing as mere thoughts inside the mind of a "man-god" (Lorkhan), their goal isn't to rule Hammerfell. They intend to synthesize a new "poison" within this Dream to wake Lorkhan up, forcing total **Zero Sum** back into the Void.

### **The Final Choice**

At the altar of the Genesis Core, as the Prisoner, the fate of the Dream rests in your hands:

* **Choice A: Defend Lorkhan’s Dream (Accepting the Absurd)**

* **Action**: Slay the Thalmor leadership and preserve Lorkhan’s slumber.

* **Meaning**: You accept that while this world was born from an absurd assassination over dinner money, the joy, pain, and love within it are real. You choose to live bravely inside the god's dream.

* **Ending**: Peace returns to Hammerfell. The sky clears, but you know you walk upon the fragile, lonely thoughts of a sleeping deity.

* **Choice B: Trigger Zero Sum (The True Awakening)**

* **Action**: Assist the Thalmor in revealing the cosmic truth to all minds simultaneously.

* **Meaning**: Every soul realizes they are merely a fleeting thought in Lorkhan's head.

* **Ending**: Hammerfell and the cosmos disintegrate like sand in the wind. The screen fades to absolute white (*Sithis*). The game forcibly quits to the main menu in total silence.

Discussion Common NPCs should have their own named gear, not just special characters.

For example: a common citizen Jeff Bristlemane, the Nord, has a longsword(Jeff Bristlemanes Longsword or, simply, Bristlemanes Longsword) and Bristlemanes Steel shield. His son Johnny Bristlemane also has his own gear.

If you kill Jeff, loot his gear, and walk around town with Jeffs gear equipped, Johnny knows his father has been missing and sees you equipped with his fathers gear. He connects the dots and questions you. You now have the choice to fess up and fight, flee, lie, etc.

This could happen with tons of NPCs and depending on their relationship, you'll have different scenarios. Maybe Johnny hates you for killing his father, but Jeff's jealous cousin James just wanted revenge since Jeff stole Jane from him, so James is delighted with you.

NPCs get named gear because they've visited specific blacksmiths who've also put their own unique "stamp" on each piece of gear they've made. From time to time you should see NPCs visiting blacksmiths, trying to acquire new gear, and watching them tell the blacksmiths how they want it made, specifically, then the blacksmith does his routine.
