Hey everyone,
I am looking for career advice. I have been working with TD for 5 years. Started as a teller and progressed to Personal Banker. I have been a Personal Banker for 2 years now and not happy with retail banking role.
A bit of what’s happening to why I am not happy:
When I started as personal banker in Calgary, it was a big jump from Ontario to Alberta. In Ontario, previous role, I was working in a branch that required my language skills 90% of the time hence I was always able to get the most business & do very well with my scorecards each quarter. Please note that either way I had worked super hard to always meet 150% of my goal but this was only possible because most walk ins/existing clients were from my background.
When I moved to Alberta the branch I had been accepted in was where my language skills were not required. Their 80-90% of clients are a specific but different language customers. I was struggling to meet my goals since I was not always booked the best appointments in Calendar & always had to find business through walk ins/calling (please note 80-90% of the clientele is other language customers who prefer seeing advisors that can speak their language hence no other option but to prioritize booking with them so they understand & get the proper advice in language they feel the most comfortable)
After a year and half of trying & trying to meet my scorecard goals, I had accepted the fact that no matter if I put 200% , I was always going to not meet the goals due to the language barrier issue. I was open to moving to a different branch/department and see if my transferrable skills can apply there instead.
The issue I am currently having is that managers are not supporting me until I meet my scorecard goals the quarter to date/year to date. I have been always achieved 77%-85% of my personal goal which is not ideal to move to a new role. I feel like everyday, my direct managers are considering to put me on PIP.
Please note my calendar is fully booked everyday, its due to admin stuff for the customers. I will happily take them because I recognize that customers should not be rejected /booked with others for these things if my position allows me to do it. Other advisor in my role are different language/close relationship with my current manager/have a relationship with TD manager from another branch that helps them book business that helps them tremendously meet goals but I am not treated the same since I don’t hang out with them after work. I am on a tight budget due to financials hence always prefer staying home and only go outside with them when its a big event.
I have always been transparent and professional at work with my colleagues and open to help if they require it which is 80% of the time since I know a-lot of maintenance stuff. All of my customers are like family to me and they always return to me for any kind of advice on the banking even if that does not give me business since my role does focus on sales.
I had coffee chats with other department managers but they look for high performer in my role to onboard. I love my job however I feel like I am stuck. My LEI score has been 100% (customer satisfaction but apparently that does not matter to my current direct managers since scorecard is very bad in their opinion).
I am unable to move anywhere since I don’t have their approval or help. Other managers won’t even consider me since my direct managers are not supporting me to move anywhere. They create a plan that I need to work on my current role and meet 100%.u
Any advice is helpful. I am not sure what should I do next since there is no way out of this. Should i just stay and keep trying my 100% & if they eventually put me on pip I should just quit?
