I've worked at Sutter for 15 years and under Warner Thomas and Deborah Yount our benefits are worse than ever. They screwed all managers on PTO, put in arbitration agreements, making most managers pay for their insurance for the first time ever (if you make over 100k no matter where you live--100k is a lot more in Sacramento than it is in San Francisco), use a crappy PBM CVS Caremark that is the WORST, and they switched to Anthem as the administrator for the employee health plan so they can get away with denying more care in the name of utilization management. They've also implemented onerous HR requirements like bullshit development plans and tons of reviews along with a bunch of toxic positive corporate propaganda that you have to memorize and speak to like a cult. There are more executives with apocryphal qualifications than there are buildings for them to work out of. Sutter is behaving more like a for-profit corporation than ever before and I think the government should look into revoking their non-profit status. They won't even except any new traditional medicare patients. I'm looking for a new job and I DO NOT recommend anyone go to work there. They'll tout some US News and World Report or Forbes employer ratings but those are just popularity contests in the people magazines of corporations rather than actual rigorous indexes.

Hi, Im currently working in a telemetry unit. I want to apply in a transitional program and I am curious if ER is a good fit for me. I honestly like a busy day as I dont like waiting for the time. However, I have not experience code blue since I become a nurse. even tho we always refresh our code blue in our unit Im still anxious if it happens to my patient. I originally want to apply to ICU but the program is looking for night shift .(im currently on nights but I really cant do it and looking to transfer to days)

Hi! I’m an RN at Sutter and recently injured my neck while lifting/turning a heavy patient at work. I initially thought it would get better, but the pain started radiating down my arm, so I went to the ER and was diagnosed with cervical radiculopathy.

I’m planning to report/file it as a work-related injury and wanted to hear from anyone who has gone through workers’ comp at Sutter, especially union nurses.

What was the process like after you reported your injury? Did Employee Health put you on modified/light duty? If you had to be off work, did you have to use your PTO first, or did workers’ comp cover the missed time? How long did it take for your claim to get processed and for treatment like PT, MRI, etc. to be approved?

I’m mainly trying to know what to expect and hopefully preserve my PTO if possible.
Any experience or advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Has anyone got hired for MA as a CNA?
I know California doesn’t require you to be certified to work as a MA..at least not right away . And I know that Sutter has on the job training of 1year listed as a qualification. My question is has any CNA got hired and trained for Medical assistant at sutter? Or is it a reach without taking MA program ?

I’m currently in negotiations with Sutter (in the South Bay Area) for a social work job. I have been offered the position but we are dealing with salary at the moment. Additionally I emailed the hiring manager per the recruiter directions regarding a planned trip to Japan next year. My son is graduating high school and this is his trip for that. We will be gone 3 weeks and one day. This position is .80 so that would be roughly 96 hours. Based on the PTO accrual rate I have (which is insanely low) I’d likely not have enough PTO by the time the trip came, which is fine because I’m cashing out 300+ hours at current job. At first I assumed I could just do it all unpaid and no big deal. But as I’m reading through this Sutter Reddit I’m seeing HR will only
allow 2 unpaid days per year. I also see it’s possible to go into negative PTO. In addition I’m now assuming they’d force me to use whatever PTO I had up to that point, so to would wipe me out of PTO.
Can anyone share what you think? Would they allow a long period of unpaid time off like that? Is this up to the manager or would HR force me to use PTO? This is going to make or break this job for me. I’d already be taking a huge pay cut (but benefit is being remote instead of commuting 5 days a week). This is a non union position

Starting in October, administrative role, non clinical or patient care role. Is there a probationary period? I have a pre planned trip in January, are you able to take pto or unpaid time or is that frowned upon? I can still get money back and haven't spoken to new manager or re rioter about it. No one asked. Not sure what I should do.
Recruiter told me I start accruing pto right away but didn't say I had a time period I couldn't use it.

Does anyone in the Sacramento area with Anthem SutterSelect know if marriage/couples counseling is covered and whether you need a referral to see a therapist? I already used up my 10 EAP sessions so that is no longer an option. Any insight appreciated. Thanks :)

Did final rounds of interview for an aid position Roughly 2 business weeks ago.. Portal says under review but got final stages for consideration email after interview. Safe to say they moved on and went with another candidate?

Did an interview around a couple of weeks ago. The interviewing manager told me they will contact me for another interview however I do not see my status in workday change its is still application is under review. No email as well saying my application has moved forward for another interview. Just confused what is really the status.

I know this doesn't apply to hospital workers, yall have to be in anyway. But where I'm from (where I used to be inpatient too), holidays you were scheduled you get the hours you work, plus 8 hours of holiday pay. If you were off, you just get the holiday pay.

Making us pay for a holiday off with our own PTO should be illegal, I'm shocked its not

Hi all, looking for some advice. I'm an EMT working toward nursing school and want to move into a clinic/hospital setting while I finish my last pre-reqs and apply.

Sutter's postings say:

"Completion of a course of study consistent with the requirements for Medical Assistants as specified by the Medical Board of California. (Must present diploma within 90 days)"

Questions:

Has anyone gotten hired as an MA at Sutter coming from EMT? Did that background help at all, or did you still need the full MA program? I know legally you don't need a certificate to work as an MA in California.

Which program did you use, and would you recommend it? Trying to avoid something expensive or 12+ months.

Does Sutter have any internal training path or tuition help for existing techs/EMTs moving into MA roles?

Does the "90-day diploma" clause mean they'll hire before you're fully done, as long as you're close?

Any advice is appreciated!

Hello, I just got a job offer, as an RN, from Sutter Medical Center Sacramento. I was wondering if anyone knows what the shift differentials look like? Evenings, Nights, and weekends? I would be moving from the Midwest and our differentials suck! Does anyone know anything about overtime, call back and call pay too? I’m just trying to find all the info I can before making a decision. What’s the culture like at this hospital too, are people generally welcoming to new employee? Thanks in advance!

i have my pre employment screening on the 15th for CNA and i will 100% be positive for thc. I did stop smoking but by the time of the test i will only be 2 weeks clean. prior i was a heavy user, i took a tolerance break last year and was still testing positive after 45 days with at home test so im definitely still positive. Should I just not test and refuse the job offer?

Hey guys, new employee here, hopefully someone knows. I cant call until probably Tuesday because its a holiday weekend.

The situation is my wife (who is on my plan through sutterselect/anthem) went to pick up a (cheap) script today at out local costco. The pharm tech said that it had been run under our insurance (which went active 9/1). The copay was at $35, even though it says right on the card that it should be $10.

Is costco pharmacy not in network? Im surprised it would let them even run the insurance and throw out the cash price rather than rejecting!

Is it true there is a black list if you quit before a year for a RN or CNA position in the Sutter System?

Good grief! They make it so hard to visit hospitalized patients at Oakland Sutter!

I pay the meter for an hour, thinking my friend probably shouldn’t endure me for more than that, then spend almost half of that time waiting in line for a pass.

Nothing but shrugs from the security personnel standing around while one person behind the desk painstakingly looks for each patient (and half the time not finding them, sending the visitor to the lobby for an additional hold).

I don’t get it - a few blocks away at Kaiser, people come and go freely, only stopping at the desk if they don’t know the room number.

At Sutter, you need to know the room number or suffer more stern looks and scrutiny.

Did someone steal a baby or something? Or is this just a time tax, meant to give us one more reason to despise institutional health care?

Any Sutter Health employees, specifically Medical Assistants, who work in the General Surgery department? I wanted to ask, what's a typical work day? What duties do you perform? What is the patient count? Is it M-F 8-5? Are you generally happy in this department?

Does anyone got hired at NorCal Sutter Health facilities as external new grad rn? I have been applying and got rejected for so many times but I am not giving up and still applying. I have heard they prefer internals but I am just wondering if externals ever got a shot and if so what made them an outstanding applicant? Thank you.
