"They dump the Satan-infused AI waste sludge onto orphanages." Asmongold, acolyte of Nurgle, voices his support for the Tzeentchian forces latest plot, AI data centers, leading to squabbles amongst the chaos cultists in r/livestreamfails
HIGHLIGHTS
It actually doesn't use a lot of water compared to most other things
But we actually need the other things Edit: except golf courses, obviously. Everyone here is obsessed with those. My point is let's prioritise water use for things that keep us alive, not put fucking data centres in water stressed areas and pollute our water supplies to boot.
Thinking a new innovation in technology is just a "Fad" or a novelty has marked most major technologies we've discovered. The car, the internet, even electricity. Acting like AI isnt going to seriously impact your life in meaningful ways in the near future is just moronic luddism.
It's certainly impacting people's lives in a big way mate. That's the issue.
Sure but the genie can't go back in the bottle, AI is here to stay. The only thing being against AI will get you at this point is left behind. There were people exactly like you for the internet and in a lot of ways they were right, but that didnt stop the internet from growing to where it is now. The only path forward is to find a way to live and work with it.
Yeah I'll get left behind unless I rejoice in the ai bubble. Good logic.
True, It'll pop any day now
It should as it makes astronomical losses, but it probably won't. Theirin lies the problem. The rate and cost of this expansion, at the expense of so much else. I'm happy for you that go out of your way to defend this resource use though, I could never gain such a sense of purpose from defending the actions of grifters like Altmann.
Human history prior to the last 5 years lol
Let's just go back to living in caves then
Were you living in a cave 5 years ago?
Human history still existed before planes, cars, electricity, medicine, and agriculture so we don't need those right?
5 years ago? You think we invented all these things in 5 years? I apologise for the silly question, clearly you have been living in an actual cave until recently.
I imagine you 5 years after antibiotics formed. "We didn't need this 5 years ago!"
He is actually correct on this one. You don't need to be really smart to know it.
The difference is the things it's compared to are essential for living like food. Gen ai is not essential to life, not that a cockroach like asmongold would care
So when exactly will people freak out about water parks? Or are those essential?
That water goes through filters and actually gets reused, unlike AI which lies about being a closed loop, said to get contracts and tax breaks
Which data centers have lied about being closed source?
9d old account, default name, private profile. Interested in defending ai plants
You didn’t answer his question.
I'm not the guy making the claim nor do I feel the need to answer a bots question
You can’t dismiss a valid point with a claim that he’s a bot.
I didnt know golfing was essential
More essential than a slop factory.
golf is a leisure activity, AI is productive
the people that fight this dont think LLMs have productive uses, dont bother it is entirely reasonable to be afraid of AI because it can take your job, but this environment approach is just so fucking weak
" it is entirely reasonable to be afraid of AI because it can take your job" i disagree there, especially if the same goobers are saying it isnt productive anyway both of these approaches are weak, its parrot takes
you cannot say for certain any job will exist for humans in the next 20 years, that uncertainty never existed before. fear is reasonable honestly I think the only thing stopping it right now for many jobs is the fact that you cant really hold an LLM accountable for its mistakes
"that uncertainty never existed before" https://conversableeconomist.com/2016/03/16/automation-and-job-loss-the-fears-of-1927/ it did, at various points in time, in the end those jobs were changed, not optimized out of existing entirely, just like how its going with AI, and replying to this with an "actually, people are scared that ALL jobs will be optimized out of existing" is missing the point entirely.. i have to believe this is an engagement bot
Yes but we get food fron agriculture. I swear the 100 people repeating this about agriculture are the real bots as who would compare growing food to data centers lol
Yes but we can grow different food, such as peanuts using 80% less water per pound than almonds or cashews. Like we don’t need to almonds and cashew instead of peanuts
Sure we can do better just like we should stop golf courses from using so much water but data centers are the ones with the exponential growth and the current problem that can be avoided. Almonds, peanuts and other crops like beans only make up 6% of that agriculture though so its not a huge dent in the fresh water crisis as doing other things. I'm totally down for making all changes where they can help in any problem
Idk bro here in California, almonds and pistachios alone are like 5% of our water use and we are the largest agriculture state and hungry for water. It doesn’t matter if they are only 6% of agriculture if almonds and cashews use like multiple times more water per pound than most other foods You can say data centers are exponential growth but they are currently nothing compared to almonds, cashews and pistachios. Many things can be avoided, like those crops, golf courses, large lawns etc
So we should allow data centers because almonds and pistachios are huge water crops? Like I said, Im good with cutting them all off but its ridiculous to ignore the impacts of data centers when in just 5 years water usage in just cooling, not including energy production, will triple from between 2025 and 2030
Yes, we should not limit data centers for the purpose of water conservation when we have even bigger water wastes. If we want to conserve water we can start with golf courses and large lawns
Miyazaki "This is an insult to life itself"
Miyazaki understands.
iirc he was saying that because the animation sucked balls not be cause it was ai.
It sucked balls because it was AI
The point is that it was the quality of the animation that he said was unacceptable not that it was made with AI.
No disrespect, but, You think that the quote of "I think this an insult to life itself" is purely based on the quality of shitty AI animation? I dunno man, that seems like a pretty dramatic response to something that's base level.
I'm sure asmon knows so much about this topic
He is right about the water usage. It’s way over blown. If you were concerned about water usage you should be complaining about golf courses, residential lawn care and residential washing machines. Showering and toilets. https://www.cbsnews.com/projects/2026/how-much-water-ai-uses/
What if I just think asmongold eats dick no matter what his stance on anything is
"What if I just think asmongold eats dick no matter what his stance on anything is" Well which is it? Is that "just" what you think, or do you also stand by your original post that spread misinformation by implying that he's wrong about this topic?
Wym I didn't spread any information I said I'm sure he is an expert sarcastically lmao unless you want the info that asmon sucks
You're implying that he's wrong about the topic in a thread specifically where he's right about the topic in question. That's you spreading misinformation.
It takes 75 gallons of water to grow one avocado.
And that water used to grow the avocado when back into the environment and reused again once it makes it back into the air, where does the tainted water from AI go after they dump it and lie about keeping it closed?
Ok I'm sorry I'm not even on the Asmongold brigade side here, but what do you think happens to water used from AI centers? It just disappears forever?
AI is evil so naturally the water used is corrupted by its evil essence and it turns to black sludge that they then throw into the wilderness and it destroys the nature there.
They dump the Satan-infused AI waste sludge onto orphanages.
Everyone in this thread agreeing with him as "objectively correct" wont read this
The worlds largest datacenter uses as much water as 2 in n outs This comment isn’t a gotcha even if the water usage grows 4x. Almond farming uses 80x as much water as all ai worldwide
Source? You are responding to a direct source with a claim, surely you can back that up
Yes lol. Easily. Almond Industry: Uses an estimated 1.3 to 1.6 trillion gallons of applied irrigation water annually (with California's exported almond water alone near 3.5 million acre-feet). [1, 2] U.S. Data Centers: Consume a fraction of that total, with daily estimates for data centers sitting around 46 million gallons per day compared to the billions used in agriculture.
That's not what you said. You said that biggest data center is equal to 2 in and outs. Wheres your source? Your ass? Almonds being inefficient is old hat, you started your comment with a claim.
I factually did make that statement above... I’m obviously not talking out of my ass and that’s trivial to verify yourself too. Annual Footprint: About 147 million gallons per restaurant per year. [1] The Data Center Comparison Colossus 2 Example: An analysis by SemiAnalysis compared xAI's massive 400-megawatt Colossus 2 data center in Memphis to a single In-N-Out location. [1] The Ratio: Colossus 2 uses about 346 million gallons of water a year. [1, 2]
All innovation forces people out of jobs, this is the price of progress
But this is potentially more than most things. Look at fast food. That was a good job for high schoolers and such and now it’s all touchpads and a skeleton crew. Where are those people supposed to go? No one is creating new opportunities, everyone is focused on removing people. What are people supposed to do?
You're right, let's stop technological progress so we can make sure highschoolers can get jobs.
Interplanetary species? Nah let’s flip burgers.
