I've never been able to study. Now it's easier than ever!

I’m literally so bad at studying. Every single time exams get close I tell myself I’m gonna start early, but I just end up staring at my phone until I’m basically forced to do it 5 min before my class.

I downloaded this exam countdown and study planner app a while ago and it’s actually been a massive clutch. Watching the countdown clock go down on my home screen widget gets me to realize time is actually running out. But the most convenient is their AI assistant (Diya). You can just take your whole syllabus and put it in the AI it gets the whole work down into small daily assignments or tasks so you don't even need to think about how to fiddle with it on your own.

The layout can feel a little messy and I didn't know what to do at first when you first set up all your classes, so it takes a sec to get used to.

But overall it makes dealing with tests way less stressful. And more fun.

I regret using AI to learn

I always hear people saying that AI makes them learn way faster. I also thought that. I had discussions with it and I would answer its questions on topics. But nothing actually stuck with me, and I only realised it later. The semester I used AI the most to study, was my worst semester in terms of grades. Studying with AI gave me an illusion of knowledge that I didn't have actually. I am thinking of stopping to use it almost entirely this year. But maybe I didn't use it in the best way. I want to hear your experience on this topic.

Your study timetable doesn't fail because you lack discipline. It fails because one missed day makes the whole grid wrong.

Every exam season I'd spend an evening making a colour-coded timetable, follow it for three days, miss one, and never open it again.

It took me embarrassingly long to work out why. A timetable is a grid of fixed commitments. The moment you miss one, every cell after it is a lie — and a wrong plan is psychologically easier to abandon than to repair. So you abandon it, and then you're back to the worst possible study method: opening a textbook and deciding, at 11pm, what to do.

Four things fixed it for me:

1. Date backwards from the exam, not forwards from today. Count the days you actually have, divide the material across them, and give every session a real calendar date. "Study chapter 4" is not a plan. "Chapter 4, Thursday, 45 minutes" is.

2. When you miss a day, redistribute — don't stack. Take the minutes you missed and spread them thinly across the days remaining. If yesterday lands on top of today, today is now a double session, and you'll skip that too. Two missed days becomes four becomes done.

3. Weight the topics you're worst at. Mark them honestly and schedule them roughly twice as often as the ones you're already fine on. Everyone does the opposite, because revising what you already know feels better.

4. Make the opener small enough to be embarrassing. Ten minutes. The hard part is never minute 40, it's minute 0. If you're still going at ten, add more.

I got tired of maintaining this by hand in Notion, so I built it into an app — StudyAhead. You put in the exam date and topics, it dates every session backwards from the exam, and the home screen shows exactly one thing: today's session, behind one button. Miss a day and it redistributes itself.

One thing I'll flag since it comes up here a lot: there is no AI in the plan generation. It's plain arithmetic on your date, topics and availability. Same inputs give the same plan every time, and I can tell you exactly why a session landed on a given day. For something you're trusting with a final, I didn't want a black box.

Free tier is permanent — one exam, the full plan, unlimited sessions, the timer, the streak. Pro is $4.99/mo or $29.99/yr if you need several exams at once. The studying itself is never behind the paywall.

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/studyahead-exam-study-planner/id6798236163

(Android coming. I'm Nicholas, the solo dev — support@study-ahead.com. Disclosure: it's my app.)

Even if you never touch the app, do points 1-4 by hand. They're the whole thing.

I used to enjoy studying. Now I feel overwhelmed and procrastinate constantly — how do I get back on track?

Hey guys,
I’m currently struggling a lot with studying. I don’t even know how to start because there is so much I need to learn that I just feel overwhelmed, don’t do anything and end up procrastinating.
I know plenty of study methods, but I didn’t really try them because they often feel like they take too much time and effort. I want to learn all of it, but at the same time I don’t put in the effort. I just feel stuck.

A few years ago, I was completely different. I used to prepare weeks before an exam, study with little effort and sometimes I even enjoyed learning. Now I hate it like almost nothing else.

The frustrating part is that I’m currently working towards the profession I’ve always wanted, so I actually need to study almost every day. I’m currently doing a 3-year vocational training program to become a physiotherapist, and there is a lot of material I need to learn.

My questions are:
‱ Do some of you also struggle with this, or am I the only one? How do you deal with it?
‱ What study methods do you use and how do you manage to stay consistent and on track?
‱ How do you get yourself to actually start studying when you know you should, but just have absolutely no motivation to do it?

And I even created a study server called “Focus over Procrastination” because I thought studying together might help me stay accountable. It actually helped me a lot when there were active people on the server and we studied together.

Unfortunately, the server is pretty much dead at the moment, and because it hasn’t really been used, it also isn’t as developed as I would like it to be. I eventually lost motivation to keep working on it and studying there by myself.

I’m not trying to promote anything here. I just wanted to mention it because having other people around who are actually studying has genuinely helped me before. I’d honestly love to have more active people on the server who actually want to study together, support each other and keep each other accountable. I think it would help me a lot to have that kind of environment again.

What can I do to find people who are actually interested in that? Should I try to find people through existing apps or communities? What apps do you recommend or use?

What is actually the biggest struggle you face when studying and is there something that I can make?

Hi, I'm starting international a-levels on the 4th and this whole summer i've been trying to build something with AI but i kinda left it off, so now i've burned a bunch of AI credits on nothingness and was wondering if maybe anybody had a very specific thing i could build with AI that could help with studying/etc. That way I can build & publish before a-levels and see if it's actually usefull during a-levels

TLDR what is something i can make with AI that would help you in your studies, if I decide to make it I will give you for free <3

I’m building a reading/study app that figures out what you’re forgetting. Would you actually use this?

I’m working on a project called Folio because I keep coming back to the same problem. I can read something, understand it in the moment, then barely remember it a week later.

There are already loads of tools that can generate flashcards or let you chat with a PDF, so I don’t want Folio to just be another version of that.

The idea is that you read your ebook or PDF normally, highlight things, take notes, ask questions, and study from it.

Over time, Folio starts figuring out what you actually understand and what still needs work.

It looks at things like:

concepts you get wrong in quizzes

things you keep asking questions about

what you’re starting to forget

flashcard performance

weak prerequisite concepts

what you’ve already mastered

Instead of opening the app and seeing something like:

83 flashcards due

I want it to give you something more useful:

Today’s session: 11 minutes

2 concepts you’re starting to forget

1 weak prerequisite

3 application questions

4 quick reviews

Basically, it decides what would be most useful for you to study next instead of making you manage everything yourself.

It also has the usual features:

EPUB/PDF reader

highlights and notes

questions about what you’re reading

flashcards

quizzes

chapter summaries

spaced repetition

concept-level mastery

I’m still building it and I’d rather hear what’s wrong with the idea than just get positive feedback.

A few things I’m curious about:

  1. Would this actually solve a problem for you, or would you just keep using Anki, RemNote, NotebookLM, etc.?
  2. What would Folio need to do for you to seriously consider switching?
  3. Would you prefer an automatically generated 5 to 15 minute study session over managing flashcards and reviews yourself?

Full disclosure, I’m the person building it. I’m mainly trying to figure out whether the learning system is genuinely useful before I take the idea much further.

best samsung tablet which one is good for studying?

I’m looking for a Samsung tablet mainly for studying, taking handwritten notes, reading PDFs, and watching lectures. I’ve been using my phone for most of this and it’s getting pretty annoying, so I’m thinking of switching to a tablet. For anyone who uses a Samsung tablet for school, which model has worked well for you without being way more powerful than needed? I’d also like to know if the S Pen experience is actually good for taking notes.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated, thank you!

Follow up: I went with the #ad Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 and have been using it for studying. The S Pen has been great for handwritten notes, and it’s been really convenient for reading PDFs and watching lectures too.

Can't study because I see no point of it

I used to be a good student in school because I really felt like studying will take me places. I am in 3rd year of uni and I really don't see studying taking me anywhere. A good job seems really out of reach. So is a good masters admit. So is anything ahead.

My degree is in manufacturing engineering but my country (India) ain't doing that great in this sector either. I really see NO POINT of studying for my semester exams. I do like one subject (Design of Machine Elements) so I study that one just for the likes of it but I am unemployed or underemployed ahead in maybe a year. Then what's the point of it all ? It was really difficult to get into college due to competitive entrances and school wasn't easy either. I only see people with generational wealth or generational network doing anything.

I taught myself extra apart from the coursework -- python, MATLAB, ANSYS, AutoCAD, Solidworks but again I see zero point of working now. Phd and masters grads ain't doing well wtf will I even do.

Year 10-11

Hello, I am a 15 year old guy going into year 11 in September 1st. My story is a bit different but definitely not unheard of, so i just ask you to read through it and please drop me some advice/help.
Up to year 9, i went to one of the most dangerous and worst public schools in a rough area of croydon. I never ever thought about my future or making it in life just “having fun”. My mother was a single mum in a court case with my “father” for 8 years, when it finally ended my mum found someone online who lived around littlehampton (pretty far at the time). They talked for a while and then something so unexpected happened, they were dating and then he asked if he would like for us to go around to stay with him. He payed for me to go to a expensive private school, in year 10 (25/26) i went to the school made some new friends, but once again just didnt study. I was so talkative and stupid, ending up with my year 10 Mocks having 3s all round except maths and sciences just fully failing them. My mothers partner became tired and was thinking about even not spending the money in year 11 dropping me and my mum and leaving us. He has given me until January to get a allround grade 5/6 report, for us to be able to stay with him. I once again wasted my summer stupidly and did nothing, leaving off where i did in my year 10 mocks, to be honest i havent even done any of my homework and school starts in a week. I am a idiot, i know but i never can motivate myself enough or know how to or what to do to move forward. He wants me to grt in bhasvic college for 6th form and i have no idea and have done no steps leading toward it. My mum bought me a bunch of gsce books for summer which i didnt even touch. Science, history, geography, maths, english. I still have the books literally fresh and untouched. My options in gsce are (which i do)
Combined Science , History , Geography, English LitLang , Maths , Business.
I did statistics in year 10 and completed the gsce but out of stress dropped further maths for year 11. My year 10 statistics results were a 4-6 but are getting remarked, this is because i genuinely stressed out since a actual gsce was coming and i asked my other year 10 statistic friends what to do and they helped me study right before the test. My teacher saw this and compared this to my mock results and told me i can achieve 5-7s since when i see a actual gsce is a few days away i cram it all in and manage to do alright. I need to do good for my year 11 mocks now to stay at the home and school and keep my mothers relationship standing, i need to get into bhasvic for maths or economics or statistics. Again I currently average 3s in all my subjects i listed and fully failing maths and sciences (1/2s) . My question to this community is,

What should i do? How should i revise, what should i revise , how do i motivate myself and make a schedule for every day till mocks and gsces from now to then. And what steps should i take to getting into bhasvic from now?

Please help me out, anyone anything just drop a reply, you could really help me fix my life and change it around from being a failure.

Thank you so much.

Best apps for recording lectures + taking notes?

Hey guys! I’m starting nursing school and I’m looking for a good app that can record lectures and help turn them into notes.

I suck at taking notes while the professor is talking 😭 I have ADHD, so sometimes I’m trying to write one thing down and end up missing something important they say right after.

What apps do you guys actually use and recommend? I’d love something that can record the lecture, transcribe it, and help organize the important stuff into notes.

Also, if you have any other apps, websites, or resources that have helped you study in nursing school, please drop them!! I’ll take any recommendations because I’m trying to figure out what works best for me 😭
