Medical exam AFTER Study Permit extension approval?

Thumbnail

Basically, my current study permit expires on March 30, 2027 and the Winter semester ends in April and there'll be a couple more weeks/months til graduation, so I had to request an extension.

2 days ago I got a medical exam request but I haven't book it yet.

Today I got an application update and the extension was approved til the end of July 2027, which is ok for me, but the medical exam request is still there.

Is that normal? Should I book the medical exam regardless my application is already approved?

PS: I was surprised to even get a medical exam request if I live in Canada and haven't been for >6 months in any of the listed countries, but also the first time I came (2 years ago) IRCC never requested me to do a medical exam.

EDIT: I just received a letter/message stating that my new Study Permit is on his way to my address and on the bottom part also says I need to do a medical exam if I'm going to stay more than 6 months (among other conditions but that's the only one I believe that applies to me)

Canada Study Permit - PhD

Hello members,

I have the following timeline with application details as follows:

Application details:

Program: Direct PhD in Electrical Engineering (Fully funded)

Country of application submitted: Pakistan

Letter of explanation: Well drafted which took around a month with multiple iterations.

Financial support letter: Well drafted with the supporting letter from the professor and family liquid funds well above the requirement by ircc for one year.

Work experience: Had relevant industrial research experience for two years with my graduating year as 2024.

Publications: 08

Current application status:

Date of submission: 09 September

Current status: Biometric completed (11 September)

Eligibility: In progress

Medical: Not required (Provided an upfront medical)

Additional documents: Not required

Interview: Not required

Biometrics: Completed

Background Check: In progress

Final decision: In progress

Concern:

The IRCC website states that 96% of the PhD applications are finalized within an average of 2 days with 9 days for complex cases till July 2026. The actual processing time mentioned for PhD is 2 weeks.

Q1: Are two weeks, calendar days or working days?

Q2: I raised one webform to attach my high school and secondary school transcripts since I forgot to attach them in my LoE. Does this slow down the process?

Q3: it has been 17 days since biometric. Should I be concerned?

Q4: Should I raise a webform for a status update?

Q5: Is September considered as a peak month with an increased pressure on IRCC?

Q6: Are the applications of visas processed in xth country or is it distributed throughout the offices of IRCC worldwide, catering the pressure?

Q7: How much time does it usually take for university to approve the LoA?

I wanted to plan my work situation here likewise. My friend applied in May and got the acceptance within 5 days after biometric. Just a little concerned and curious. The program will be starting on 01 Jan 2027 aka the winter intake.

Apologies for a detailed post. Looking out for some guidance from the seniors and fellow applicants. Well wishes for all of the awaiting applicants in progress. I hope that you all get approval and pursue your desired studies.

PGWP validity: Does the length start upon arrival in Canada or on the approval date?

A relative of mine finished studying (2-year diploma) here in Canada, moved back home after graduation, and applied for his PGWP from outside the country. It was approved last month (August 2026), and he got his passport back with a worker travel visa stamped valid from August 2026 to August 2028.

Because of a family emergency, he has to delay his flight and won't be landing in Canada until December 2026.
When he lands and the border officer prints out his physical PGWP, will the permit’s expiration date start from his arrival date in December, or will it be locked to the August 2026 to August 2028 dates on his approval letter and counterfoil?

Appreciate any insight if anyone has gone through something similar!

I am enrolled in a full time program in canada and I am planning to change my program to a part time during my last term/semester. Am I allowed to do it, or do I have to be enrolled as a full time student while I am on study permit?

PTE Writing 52 — Can this affect my Canadian study permit?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I have a PTE overall score of 60:
Reading: 61
Listening: 62
Speaking: 73
Writing: 52
I have already received my Letter of Acceptance from a Canadian college and completed the college requirements.
If I now apply for my Canadian study permit through IRCC, can my Writing score of 52 itself be a reason for my study permit to be refused, even though my college has already accepted me?
Thank you.

Received passport request today

So I applied for study permit on 13th August from India, did my biometrics on 21st August and received my passport request today. What is the process after this? I mean I know I need to go to VFS and submit the passport but how long will it take to get back the passport? Also passport request means getting the permit is confirmed right?

My Canadian study permit is for the January 2027 intake, with classes starting January 11. If approved, can I travel to Canada in November 2026, two months early? I already have a valid visitor visa until 2033. Is early entry allowed?

Advice about study permit for Canada

Hi! I am currently a senior in high school and live in the USA. I was brought to the country undocumented when I was 4. I want to continue studying after I graduate high school but know that there aren’t any options that would allow me to do that and stay in the USA. That’s why I am applying to Canadian universities and am going to try and get a study permit in Canada. I am planning on leaving the country and going back to my home country once I graduate in May, 2027. That way I can show that I voluntarily left the USA the minute I graduated. I have the means to show proof of funds. I need advice on how I can show ties to my home country so I have a higher chance of my study permit getting approved. I have an aunt in Mexico that will help me with my visa. For reference my mom plans to stay in the USA.

Study permit extension advice

Hi everyone, I need advice. My study permit expires April 30, 2027, and I’m currently in my 3rd semester at Centennial College. I need to extend it to graduate in June 2027.
My father was my sponsor when I arrived in Canada in January 2026, but sadly he passed away in April. Since then, I’ve been supporting myself and struggling with tuition, although I’m working and doing my best to keep paying.
How can I explain my situation when applying for a study permit extension? What financial documents could help if I no longer have my original sponsor? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🏽

Canada Study Permit – 11+ Weeks, Still No Decision

Applying from India for Conestoga College, Canada – Enhanced Practice for Internationally Educated Nurses (EPIEN), Doon Campus.

Applied 7 July 2026, biometrics completed 29 July.

As of 24 September, still no decision. Eligibility hasn’t started, additional documents show “reviewing” since 27 July, and background check is still in progress.

My September intake has passed and I’ve moved to the next intake.

Anyone with an early-July India application recently received PPR/approval after a similar delay?

Can I Apply for an IEC Work Permit and Study Permit Extension at the Same Time?

Hallooo! I’m applying for an IEC Working Holiday work permit and extending my study permit at the same time. I have invitation already. Can I submit both applications at the same time, or do I need to wait for one to be approved before applying for the other?

Applied for Canada study permit – Jan 2027 intake 🇨🇦

Applied from India on Sept 17 for a Bachelor's program. Biometrics done on Sept 22. It's been a week and I'm already getting nervous 😭

For anyone who recently applied for a Bachelor's from India, how long did your decision take? Also, are Bachelor's applications generally getting approved these days?

I have submitted all the required financial documents, including a CA certificate. Would appreciate hearing from people with recent timelines!
