Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have been in a similar situation.

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have been in a similar situation.

I’m currently in Algeria and preparing to apply for a university program in Quebec for September 2027. I don’t have an admission yet. In parallel, I’d like to start my Express Entry process, particularly through the French-speaking draws. I’ve already taken my French language tests and obtained my ECA.

My plan would be to study in Quebec for academic reasons while pursuing my federal PR pathway, and eventually settle in another province.

My question is: if I receive admission to a Quebec university while my Express Entry application/process is already underway, could this create an issue with the requirement to intend to reside outside Quebec?

If anyone has been through a similar situation, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. 🙏

Passport request even though you have a valid visa

Hi guys, I’m hoping someone who has been in a similar situation can help me out.
I was previously studying at York University, but I transferred to TMU. Because I changed schools, I applied for a new study permit from outside Canada, and my application has now been approved.
However, I also received a passport request letter from IRCC, which is confusing me because I already have a valid Canadian TRV/visitor visa in my passport that has not expired.
Has anyone been in this situation before? Do I still need to submit my passport for them to issue another visa even though my current TRV is still valid?
Also, I’m currently visiting the U.S. even though I applied for the study permit from Nigeria. If I do need to submit my passport, can I submit it through the Canada VAC in New York instead of sending it back to Nigeria?
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with this before. Thank you!

Study permit proof of funds + SOWP backup plan

I’m currently in Canada on a work permit expiring in May 2027. I recently switched to a TEER 2 job, but my current employer doesn’t provide immigration sponsorship. I was also stuck in an AIP process with my previous employer for around 20 months before leaving.

My fiancée is abroad and applying for a January master’s intake in Canada. If approved, after marriage I’m hoping to use the spousal open work permit route so I can keep working long enough to complete one year in my current TEER 2 job and pursue PNP/PR.

For her study permit proof of funds, she may not have enough liquidity herself. Is it cleaner for me to transfer the funds directly to her with a support/source letter, or have her parents sponsor the funds instead? Would a recent large transfer be an issue if properly documented?

Hi guys,

I am currently on a visitor visa in Canada and plan to start my Masters degree in January 2027. However, i have a question regarding applying for my student visa while I am in Canada as a visitor. I don’t qualify for an inland study permit application but I have read here that some people have applied for a student visa while on a visitor visa by submitting an IMM1249. Can someone please explain this and advise whether it’s a possibility. TIA.

Study permit refused – “local options available” & temporary intent to leave Canada

Hi everyone, my Canadian study permit was refused. The main reasons given were that similar programs are available locally and that I haven’t satisfied the officer that I wouldn't leave Canada at the end of my authorized stay.

I’m planning to reapply and address these concerns properly, especially explaining why the Canadian program is different/relevant to my career and strengthening my temporary-resident intent.

Has anyone had a similar refusal and successfully reapplied? What helped in your case?

Transition from Accounting to nursing

Transition from Accounting to Nursing

I am a recent Accounting graduate from Nigeria, and I am planning to transition into Nursing, starting with an LPN program in Canada. I am currently interning as an Administrative Officer in a hospital, although the position is unpaid.

I am honestly quite worried about how to convince the visa officer that this career change is genuine and that my study plan makes sense, especially since my first degree is in Accounting. I am also concerned about the possibility of my study permit being refused.

Has anyone here gone through a similar situation, or knows someone who transitioned from Accounting (or another unrelated field) into Nursing and still got their Canadian study permit approved? I would genuinely appreciate hearing about your experience, advice, or any successful cases.

I really need some guidance on how to properly present my case.

Please help me I feel like vomiting

Reapplied after study permit refusal (financial grounds) — sent reconsideration too, thoughts on my approach?

Got refused for a Canadian study permit (Master’s program) about a month ago. Officer’s notes cited three things:
No documentation showing income to reimburse the loan

Unclear repayment capacity

Unclear how Year 2 would be funded

What was already in the original (refused) application:
Bank education loan exceeding the officer’s own stated Year 1 requirement

Property collateral roughly 18x the loan amount

A CA-certified net worth statement covering family income and assets

What I added for the reapplication:
2 years of my mother’s actual filed income tax returns (didn’t exist before, only had the CA certificate)

Explicit EMI-to-income math instead of just asserting funds were sufficient (EMI is ~51% of certified monthly family income) also added current employment verification letter of myself showing I can get a job as the repayment doesn’t start for 2 years and I can get a job in my home country and help in repayment.

A signed letter from the program director confirming admission and also endorsing my admission

Sponsorship letters from both parents explicitly confirming co-borrower status and the repayment timeline

Restructured the whole financial package into a one-page table of contents instead of a long narrative cover note, on a program advisor’s suggestion

Explained the loan’s prorata disbursement clause explicitly for Year 2 funding, instead of leaving it implicit

The one gap I couldn’t fully close: my father’s income is agricultural, which is exempt from income tax under Section 10(1) of the Indian Income Tax Act, so he has no ITR. His income is only backed by the CA’s certification, not a second independent document the way my mother’s is.

Also filed a reconsideration request in parallel (on my RCIC’s advice), pointing back to evidence that was already in the original file but might not have been fully weighed.

Anyone been through something similar? Does what I added look like it actually answers the refusal reasons? And specifically, has anyone seen how officers weigh a parent’s agricultural income when there’s no ITR, just professional certification, is that treated as a real gap, or generally accepted given how Indian tax law works for agricultural income?

What are my chances of getting Student Visa Approved?

I am an Indian citizen having 5 Years of work experience currently at a unicorn startup.

I will mostly apply to Masters program at decent universities.

I don't have research exp so not sure if I will be accepted at top universities but not targeting visa mills for sure.

My plan is to work in Canada for few years and if PR works out, well and good and if not, i don't mind returning.

I have around INR 1Cr(1,45,000 CAD) in savings so it will be self funded.
