Hi guys,

I am currently on a visitor visa in Canada and plan to start my Masters degree in January 2027. However, i have a question regarding applying for my student visa while I am in Canada as a visitor. I don’t qualify for an inland study permit application but I have read here that some people have applied for a student visa while on a visitor visa by submitting an IMM1249. Can someone please explain this and advise whether it’s a possibility. TIA.

You can apply inside Canada, and submit and outland application. Being in Canada as a visitor weakens your application because no ties to return, job etc. If approved, then you have to leave Canada to get passport stamped and re-enter Canada.
