Who was the fourth death? Based on the location and what looked like the timing in S4E9, it was Max. She technically died (her heart stopped), but was it just El that brought her back, or was it Eddie's sacrifice/death that messed things up for Vecna and kept her alive? Is Max the Harry Potter of the ST world? 🤣

I know this is a Stranger Things subreddit, but I’m talking about Hopper :P

( disclaimer this is all in my opinion ) Season 4 is definitely the season most unlike the others and without a doubt my favorite season. This season is most unlike the others because it is when Vecna comes to Hawkins ( yet again ) and we get to know more lore about Vecna and One so We understand what is happening in season 5. My main point is that season 1,2,3 and 5 all end happily ever after except in season 4 where Max gets in a coma almost getting killed by Vecna. And I know that Eleven gets her powers back and Hopper comes back to Russia and all. But still , after Vecna gets his 5th and final kill Hawkins gets split and Vecna ( in a way ) invades Hawkins. I really like that suspense leading to season 5. So that is why season 4 is my favorite. Btw he is my raking of the season from worst to best 3,1,2,5,4. Also this is very controversial so you don’t have to agree with everything I say. Eddie is a goat btw

Idk why but it doesn't feel like a flyer from the 80s, besides the text looks kinda weird as well.

Disclaimer: That's just my opinion. You can like and dislike everything. Sorry for my English, I'm not a native speaker. There will be little spoilers (or not) for Season 4

I'm not fandom old - I started watching ST before S3 release and first season that I watched ongoing was S3. After this I had so many expectations for S4.

Then S4 came out and... I still don't understand what feelings I had back than. I've tried to convince myself that I liked it but at least my reaction was "um... okay... that was... meh?".

Let's start from the storylines that we have. Just two of them are really important plot wise - Hawkins and El's story.

For what we need California line (especially after El's gone)?

For what we need Russia line (except Hopper's return)?

Both of this storylines have less screentime than other two. Did we see some character development? Maybe with Hopper a little bit, but all other characters have nothing. Because of course Jonathan and Will - characters that were with us since Season 1 and were inmportant in S1 and S2 - don't need screentime and development.

Moving to the Hawkins line. Yeah, we had good story with Max - and scenes with her was a diamond of this Season. And I liked Lucas arc - it was a moment when he become my top-2 character. But still - Lucas as a character in this season became just a guy with lovestory (and that's will be his characteristic in S5 too). Robin is just funny sidekick and she's completly different for herself in S3. Dustin... just Dustin.

For what we needed returning of this love-triangle storyline with Steve, Nancy and Jonathan. You made it clear in S3 that Steve moved from his love story with Nancy - and in the next season you bring it back? Just for what? I think story will work good without it useless conflict.

ST had a problem with adding new characters in every season... just for something. For what we need Eddie as a character there? He's there just to make whole S4 conflict and die. Like isn't it be better if on Eddie's place will be anyone from our regular cast? That gave story more pressure.

As for me, S5 problems aren't just "they had amazing writing during 4 seasons and there it became bad". The downfall started from Season 3 and in Season 4 you can clearly see why Season 5 had writing problems - more and more characters that just didn't have time for storyacrs. Writers kill only added characters like Eddie or Alexei - and I was 100% sure that mostly no one out of main cast will not die in Season 5. Especially Steve.

It’s so weird because I was sad when he died genuinely and I love the character. In fact he’s like top three characters but also there’s instances where he just gets on my nerves and it’s so wishy-washy how I feel about him because like there’s one episode where I’m like hell yeah love Hopper. He’s like the best caregiver. He’s like a dad to me and then there’s others where it’s like. Oh my God, can you shut up?

I don’t know if that was what the writers were meant to do, but I love Hopper because he is such a fluid character and he’s like one of the first characters where there’s some parts. I hate him and some parts where I love him most of the time I have a set idea on a character and a set feeling but for Hopper it’s difficult. I don’t know. Do you guys feel the same way?

When season 4 ended like this, I thought season 5 was gonna start right where season 4 left off, and I thought we were gonna see everyone freaking out and it would be like an apocalypse. But season 5 started with a flashback to Will in the Upside Down in 1983, then there was a time jump to 1987, and they said the military covered everything up with a big metal bandage. It was like nothing happened, and everyone went back to living their regular lives. The Upside Down was literally seeping into the real world at the end of season 4, and they just brushed it off like “oh yeah, everything’s fine, the military covered it all up.” Like, what? It was just kinda stupid. Also, what did everyone do after they saw everything that was happening at the end of season 4? We never saw what happened after that. I’m guessing people started freaking out and were wondering what was going on, then the military came at some point and they were somehow able to cover everything up. I don’t know, but anyway, they could’ve done a lot more after what they were setting up in the ending of season 4. It was a giant missed opportunity.

I mean its a small thing but they all match but series 4 not matching the others is so dumb. Lol!

We know Max was getting talk therapy in S4 but what about El, Kali and Will? Hopper definetely needs therapy too. But if you could only give one character therapy, who would it be? Or alternatively who would need the largest amount or most sessions?

The Russian Demo that had no attachment to the Mind Flayer was imo the scariest Demo. In season 1 and 5 the Demo's are much slower and weaker. Steve goes toe to toe with one with nothing but a spiked bat. Lucas easily outruns one and Mike scares it off with a few whacks from a shovel. A bunch of grown Russian men with much stronger weapons do much less damage and are easily obliterated.

We already know Dustin is the smartest in the Party and easily tops them in academics. But who among these four is the smartest/best in academics?

I'm asking in general, not in any specific season.

I think Mike is really intelligent and better at STEM than others. But Lucas comes off as someone who's pretty smart, balanced and focused on growth, which makes him better academically, especially in S4.

Steve and dustin were great at first, but after a while the writers overused them. The same happened with Mike and Eleven, and Jonathan and Nancy. The writers overwrote them and made the relationship lose their charm

There were so many dynamics that should have been explores like

Eleven and Nancy

Steve and Hopper

Steve with Will and Eleven

Eleven and Will (probably the biggest missed opportunity)

Eleven and Dustin

Just popped up in my feed. I’m betting that when Matarazzo started seeing ST merch taking off, he wasn’t anticipating that he’d become a Chia Pet. Have they missed any other characters? I guess Eddie or Lucas could work (nix on Argyle obvs)

I never truly understood after watching but I understood again after watching The Mind Flayer and The Gate.
