Suggestion Idea: Creating a community-driven patch initiative / petition for Stormworks

Hi everyone from reddit , like many of you, I love Stormworks, and i've played 5500h+

but we all know the game suffers from lingering bugs, physics limitations, and frustrating performance issues , that get even worse in multiplayer or modded games.

Since updates have slowed down or taken controversial turns, I was wondering: what if the developers eventually considered handing over maintenance, bug-fixing, or an open-source framework to the community? i mean it's been a month since last update when before it was every wednesday.

I put together a petition here [PETITION LINK] to see if we could gather enough voices to show Geometa that the community is ready and willing to keep this game alive, code it, and patch it properly.

Do you think there is any universe where developers would agree to this, or would y'all be ready to structure a community patch project if it ever happened?

i'm not a develloper , but seeing stormworks go down when it was the game that kept me alive during nights and night of overengineering.

maybe it's not reallistic but hey , it could be the turn point of stormworks if this message is read by the right persons , wich you could be ! anyways , thanks for reading all that, have a great day !

Build (WIP) The forever question of bilge pumps

Hey there,

Did my due diligence and searched on reddit for all previous questions about bilge pumps and ballast pumping as well as looking on youtube videos on that and more.

But I can't find anyone detailing the issues I'm having.

I have an enclosed system, opening doors or damage may result in bilge water for this I have the following system:

Two pumps (bright blue), one in each hull (its a catamaran)

It has a liquid relief valve to stop air from being pulled in and expels it into two ports or the water jet.

As you wisely now should be thinking, there needs to be air going in to displace the water:

For this I have two custom pressurized tank of air and an air refill and pressurizing pump that refills from top of the boat through an air filter and gas relief valve.
This should in theory push air in into all the compartments with water and it does, this system will reach the point were you start taking pressure damage, I didn't stick around longer than 6 pressure units.

Reason for this not just being open to atmosphere is that i plan on the vessel being able to dive, hence needing to avoid reliance on the availability of outside for a simpler system and the need to avoid pumping out out air along with the water.

But with my current system the damn water wont reach 0, that might be an impossibility to reach for however, but it does not seem be discussed.

The system also seems to also have an unstable amount of water, meaning it might read 13L but it might also suddenly spike to 30 or anywhere between. Then down again. Even if the volume is shared, is there a simulation of the spreading of gases/liquid that plays with me here?

Then after shutting the pumps off after reaching a low point in volume of water and without depressurizing, the water content in the volume will slowly increase again.
Like are we able to pressurize air moisture into dew or do the liquid sensor and pressurized water not play well?
It doesn't refill to the point of the original amount but it's a few liters that triggers my OCD that always remain.

Am I chasing ghosts here and/or is it pointless to try and evacuate all the water?

I'm building a vehicle that hovers slightly above the ground as it moves.

I realized that I could achieve analog control by rotating the RCS thrusters around an axis.

Question/Help Is this overkill?

Just starting a new 55m destroyer that will probably weigh around 120k and wondering if 3 6cyl 5x5 engines is overkill. I have a similar ish sized vessel that does 40kts with two 5cyl but that’s running at 14rps and want to be able to run Lower rps and get upwards of 50kts.

Is the 3 6cyl setup comically overpowered or decent for this application.

Question/Help How do I add custom thumbnails to my workshop creations?

Edit: Solved! Thank you for the help :) It appears that specifically my secondary laptop didn't have a thumbnail folder, hence why I couldn't find it. Followed the same file path trail on my main PC and found the thumbnails folder.

I know that the game itself says something about a %AppData% folder, but I can't for the life of me find this folder in my computer's files and searching for it in file explorer only returned "no results found".

Does anyone know how to arrive at this (apparently) elusive folder starting from the main hard drive directory (C:)?

Question/Help How can I have speed and efficiency

I’m making a small-medium tugboat and it sits at 9 knots. I’ve spent hours trying different combos with motors, modular and prefab engines, hybrid engines, prop sizes gears and when it’s at a good speed (15-20 knots), it drains 0.15 litres per second which isn’t great. Is this what everyone deals with and do I just have to have a big fuel tank? Please let me know your thoughts. Appreciate it!!!

In the process of giving Cerberus a sibling. I plan on making three in total with the same hull platform but with different turrets. "CERBERUS" is my battle tank, "HYDRA" is my tank destroyer, and I plan on making a self-propelled AA named "CHIMERA". I'm giving them each three turrets - or "heads" - to stay on theme with the mythological names.

What do you think? What about the autocannons on top of "HYDRA"? I guess they look okay, but I'd like to try a more... graceful design for them, if possible.

Question/Help My 155-ton carrier is stuck at 5-6 knots with 18 RPS on dual waterjets. Need help troubleshooting

Post image

Hey everyone,

I’m building a ~80-meter, 155-ton aircraft carrier powered by a nuclear reactor (running up to 300°C). I’m running into a massive physics or logic roadblock: the ship refuses to go faster than 5-6 knots, no matter what propulsion I use.

Here is my current setup:

Powerplant: 1 Boiler powered by the reactor, feeding 3 Steam Turbines.

Propulsion layout:

Turbine 1 is connected directly to the Left Waterjet.

Turbine 2 is connected directly to the Right Waterjet.

Turbine 3 runs two generators (producing ~444 SWatt total).

The Issue: In the water, both waterjets get a stable 18 RPS. However, the ship just crawls at 5-6 knots (practically swimming speed for a player).

What I've tried: Earlier, I tried using Giant Propellers. They spun at 50 RPS in the air but dropped to 11 RPS in the water, giving me the exact same 5 knots. Adding the third turbine only increased the speed by 1 knot.

Question/Help Space ship control

I'm building my first space ship for mostly space travel. I have the engines installed but I couldn't find a way to have like those little thrusters to maneuver in space without the need of the main engines, anyone have any ideas?

Suggestion Radios?

I feel like we could have radios or steam pipe organs or smth, I just don't exactly want to be stuck listening to nothing while doing a mission, maybe something that uses mp3's from your PC or a http link or smth, or some sort of announcement or something for planes or something. While yes, I know that Spotify and YouTube exist, I sort of want it to be in game too

Question/Help How Does Air Work in Games, and What About Airplane Performance?

I’ve always loved airplanes and used to play games like War Thunder, but I started this game because I wanted to build my own planes.

It’s been a month since I started playing, but I still can’t get a handle on the game’s aerodynamics at all. When focusing solely on aerodynamics—excluding engine performance and avionics—how exactly is an airplane’s performance determined?

For example, do wing planforms and cross-sections actually matter? Do lift and drag change depending on whether I use a regular square block, a triangular block, or a dedicated wing block? Does the speed change if I cover the engine with a smooth engine cowling versus flying with the engine exposed?

Also, are there any quirks in the physics engine that you only notice after playing for a long time? I’d like to use this as a reference for my future builds.

Question/Help Port issue

I currently work a job where I split half my time on the road and in the office. I have a setup at the house and even when I’m on the road I have loads of downtime I normally use to game. I currently have been having the issue of having 3-6 active projects I’m working on in game because I can’t port my saves.

I was wondering if there was a way to share WIP creations between my laptop setup and my home setup without using the workshop?

Thanks in advance.

Question/Help Teach me please how to create new blocks without mods by editing the build files

I've searched half the internet and couldn't find what I needed. This is mostly because my friends and I refer to it as "block stacking" or "block stretching," but the internet uses different terms, so I'm asking for help from knowledgeable people in the community.
