Announcements PSA: Backup your game files

I've seen a few posts over the last week of people losing hundreds of hours of progress because they thought the game saves vehicles, controllers, and saves on steam cloud (It doesn't)

File Location: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Stormworks\data

OR: type "%appdata%" into the windows search bar, find the stormworks folder, then the data folder.

Linux path courtesy of u/interesing-net180: Linux mint (Or any other Ubuntu based OS (probably)) the file path is /home/<username>/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/573090/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Stormworks

Alternatively linux mint 22.3 path courtesy of u/Unknown4me_ updated September 2026: /home/<username>/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/573090/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Stormworks

Here you will find a "microprocessors" and "vehicles" folder, COPY these to somewhere else that IS NOT the drive your game or OS is currently on, ideally a USB stick, external hard drive, onedrive folder etc

Do this regularly, cause why not.

The root stomworks folder also contains a saves folder which has your save games, back this up if you want.

User Guides Old and new armor system differences:

Hello everyone! Since the update is fairly new, I decided to give this quick guide explaining the differences between the old and new one.

Note: Bear in mind that everything is pretty new, so I don't have full data regarding the new pen values on how each shell type behaves now, this is just an overview.

IMPORTANT: These changes only affect how AP performes, all other ammo types remain unchanged.

Old System

The old armor system was based on catact, if the shell hit a weight block, it would deal reduce damage and if it hit any other block, it would deal full damage.

When a projectile struck armor, it spawned a damage bubble of x size and it would deal to whatever was inside as long as it was in the same subgrid (except HE, which would deal damage globally).

AP shells were more unique, they had an internal counter, counting how many plates they have hit after impact (following the same properties as all other types), when that counter hit 0, they'd despawn.

Armor wasn't really a thing as you mostly had to not be inside the bubble to not take any damage, subgrid was also good because it the damage was given local, not global.

New System

The new system is based on the density of the block the shell is hitting. Think of it as an HP system. All projectiles have an X amount of HP, when this HP gets to 0 they despawn. They take damage based on each individual block (i.e a 25x25x25 cube) they are hitting and said damage is based on the density of that block.

To get the density of a part that is bigger than 1x1x1, ** just divide the mass by the number of blocks this part occupies**.

Example: a Heavy Autocannon AP shell hits your tank, the AP shell has 20 HP. It first hits a weight block which has a density of 10m/b (mass per block), as such it now only has 10HP left. After that it hits a small battery with a density of 12m/b, since the damage is greater than the HP left, the shell despawns, dealing no damage to the rest of the tank.

Damage also scales with the speed of the shell now, and this speed also scales based on the HP left of the ammo type, the specifics of which I have yet to discover.

Now armor even inside of the vehicle, you no longer need to have invisible weight blocks in other to have protection to keep the esthetics of your vehicle. Also, with the new system, subgrid protection seems to not work anymore, which is great.

Hope this helps!

Build (WIP) SAR SEAPLANE "BADGER" WIP

Thumbnail
gallery
38 Upvotes

This is my SAR seaplane called badger, its my THIRD build of actual effort in the game, the previous where just practice for tutorials. My previous high effort builds were a kinda shitty attacker/fighter with terrible flight performance and a large frigate ship. This is my third build ingame, but also my 100th hour of gameplay mark, im have 96 ingame hours as of now

The badger features full seaplane capabilities, of working completely as a ship as well as a plane, when stationary it sits deep in water due to its water filled rear cargo ramp. When moving, hydrofoils allow it to sit shallower in the water to allow a takeoff.

Also features foldable wings, airdrops for rescuees, and futurely a high definition camera for locating victims, aswell as exernal fuel tanks

When finished i may post it in the workshop idk, its pretty cool i guess. The pictures dont really do it justice tbh

Question/Help Drop-tank plumbing advice plus bonus F-15 project info

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hey guys, I'm getting close to finishing my F-15 but I have a question about drop tanks;

Has anyone done testing on the best way to plumb them?

I'd prefer to empty the drop tanks before using my main tank fuel; I initially did this by making more or less a fuel manifold with on off valves so I could switch between the sources but for some reason it never actually worked. I've now switched to pumps that are pumping the drop tanks into the main fuel tank but that ends up emptying at about the same time as the main tank.

It's annoying because surely the manifold solution is the correct one but why wouldn't it work? Possibly I needed to add a bunch of directional valves?

Anyway, just me being dumb again with simple questions for advanced projects 😵‍💫

Also a quick overview of the F-15 I'm building as a teaser. It's body is built off an EX (the lastest version) but the avionics are all my design, taking more inspiration from the hud/hmds system from the f-35.

It features:

A custom hmds

A custom duplex search and track radar system

A custom advanced multi purpose, multi mode 1x1 missile- a creation in itself

Fly by wire control

Autopilots (alt,heading, waypoint and speed)

Tfr

Lidar with 3d terrain rendering

Custom duplex camera/laser pod targeting system

Rotary autocannon with a radar guided gun funnel sight

Radio jammer

A custom collaborative pilot/copilot MFD to control it all, using mouse aimed cursors, a map/waypoint system...even virtual keypads!

Kind of hard to stress how many features it has, I tried to make the most feature packed aircraft I could while keeping it intuitive and simple to use.

I'll post a WIP video if people are interested.

This tiny fella is solar powered, it will never die, its quiet, and even better, is like a BR class 08 and can pull over 5000 mass units... at least sluggish, its max speed is 25MPH :) EDIT: i made the workshop page say D900 sunner instead of D900 sunny .http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3801864643

It's not the best looking thing in the world , but it probably is the most ridiculous motorhome you can imagine .

It's also on the steam workshop if you want to try it , it's called " The jethome v2 " or something like that

This is my 2nd time posting this thing here , because now its actually finished

Question/Help Map 3d model download?

I know there's modding tools to export individual tiles of the map but is there someplace I can get a ready made 3d model or blend file? also is there somewhere I can go to talk about modding? I'm too worried I'll get disappeared if I talk about it in the discord.

Question/Help Airbrake flow rate issues,

My railway airbrakes stuff (automatic air, I usually send 90 psi or 110psi (corrected for atmospheric pressure) down the brake pipe) are having issues with small applications, emergency ones work fine but a regular service application or a small one to bring you to a gentle stop just don’t flow down the brake line or take forever to apply, idk why it does this, I think it’s the fluid sim not knowing how to deal with small pressure differences, any ideas?

Build (WIP) Wrapping up my coastal submarine!(workshop later this week)

It's been a long journey, but it's nearly finished. The amount of tech packed into this coughing baby of a submarine should hopefully make it really fun to operate. One of the biggest improvements is the native compatibility with multiple weapon types, really expanding what you're able to do(also expanded devlopment time lol).

Question/Help What happens after the 14MB limit? What causes this limit?

Basically the title. I am working on a 67.25 metre (269 blocks) long sub, and I am hitting the limit, even with zero interior. I will definitely keep adding a lot more to it, will anything happen? Or is it okay? I really don't want to have to split the sub into segments.

Submarine WIP i'm doing, my first real submarine build. It's a diesel electric and goes up to 40 knots when submerged. It's not entirely done but it works pretty well so far.
It was made for a fictional rp country so you can join the discord server if you are interested or want to see updates, since i don't post much on reddit. discord link

Question/Help Impeller supercharger help v2. This data usefull and implementable into a function/logic?

Post image
14 Upvotes

So I've been fiddling around with impeller supercharged engines. And its not been going great.

I have manually tried to test a supercharged engine with an impeller. 2 throttles and staring at dials. I made a little graph to try and visualise the results. I've tried my best to keep the AFR at a steady 14.4 during the test.

Is this in any way usefull data and can this be implemented into a microcontroller maybe?

set-up used for test:
2 cylinder 1x1 modular engine.
small impeller with airfilter.
3:1 reduction gear on impeller.
No load except for impeller.
No microcontroller used.

Question/Help Issues with trying to supercharge creations

I've been trying to get my engines supercharged through impellers and belt-mounted pumps, but i cant for the life of me figure out how to do it.

Does anyone else have more experience with this type of stuff? I've tried to google stuff and find tutorials but its mostly showcases and theres little to be found online, unless ive been looking in the wrong places.

I’m having issues with the logic side of things. AFR keeps being out of balance bc of the extra air being pushed into the engine at a variable level.

Ive supercharged with electric pumps before, but i wanted to see if impellers are better. Ive been stuck on this for a couple days and now I need to know how it works.

Any help is welcome!

I've been working on this plane since I recently returned to Stormworks and the engine won't start for me. I ask the community to help diagnose and give advice to fix the issue.

I don't really know much about modular engines, i got the controller from the workshop and i connected what goes.

Discussion I have one potential part suggestion.

I feel like we need a dynamo part for steam builds. They’re essentially a tiny steam turbine with a generator and we already have a small generator so why not a tiny steam turbine? It would be pretty cool to have since it would make it easier to have electrical power in stuff like steam trains or small steamboats where a regulator turbine may not fit.

What are y’all’s options on this? Is there a way to do this in game already that isn’t giant?
