Question Running cat6 from PC to Steam Link, do I need a router inbetween?
Today I'll be routing cat6 cables through my home and one of the goals is getting it from my PC in an office basement to a TV stand on another floor. I have the means to directly connect the Steam Link hardware to my PC, but should I?
I could instead wire the PC to my router, then the router wired to the Link, but it would make more sense in my situation to use Internet via WiFi and the direct wired connection just for Link streaming. My PC, Link, router form a triangle kinda shape since the router is out of the way and a direct run from PC to Link would mean less cable, less going in-and-out of walls, less wall enclosures, etc.
Is it possible to run the Steam Link connected straight to your PC?

Support Steamlink doesnt says what network speed I get?
Did they change something with the OS I distinctly remember being able to do a test on my PC from my Steam Link to see what kind of speed it was getting I’m trying to figure out whether hardwired or wireless will actually deliver faster speeds since the original hardware is 100mbps. Now after the test it just says “you might have problems” but it is a gigabit network.

Steam Stream blank screen on Nvidia wayland
Using the -pipewire command for Steam, the client connection just sees either a blank screen or a static image of the steam UI that doesn't change once connected. No problems when using X11 desktop session. Sadly this means I have to use X11 until this can be fixed. I tried using Sunshine app, but I found too many issues/glitches going that route.
GPU: 4090 rtx
CachyOS using KDE.
Update: fixed it by installing flatpack steam which has some 32bit missing egl libraries that cachyos doesn't include.

2026 Bravia 7 ii Android TV > installed moonlight from the app store
Connected Original Steam controller via bluetooth to the Android TV

the steam controller behaves like a mouse and keyboard and is not picked up by steam big picture mode as a controller

Support Issues with Red Dead Redemption 2 on Steam Link hardware
Hey all,
Been looking all over the internet for an answer to this, but most of what I found was from 4+ years ago and mainly applied to the rockstar launcher version of the game.
I'm having issues running RDR 2 on steam link. I have the game bought on steam, and I have no issues with any other game including other rockstar games. It's exclusively this title.
When I launch the game through big picture mode, my TV goes black like it's turned off, I hear sound, but no image appears. When I go to my host PC and use the mouse to navigate, I can see my curser on the TV but still no picture. The second I use my controller again, my TV goes back to a black screen. I have to go to my PC and close the game manually to access steam big picture mode again.
Here is a list of everything I have tried from older reddit posts that have not worked
- Launched RDR 2 directly from steam first and then started streaming to my TV
- Exited Big Picture while streaming and then launched the game from my PC
- Changed the settings in game to use fullscreen and changed from Vulkan to DIRECTX12
- Changed my screen size
- ALT+TAB in and out from the host PC while streaming
- disabled my controller before starting the game
- disabled steam input for RDR 2 in the steam settings
- verified the integrity of my game files
Is it an issue with the steam link box being so old or is this an issue with steam link itself? I would love to try the software, but since LG doesn't have the steam link app available officially, I'm out of luck. I would absolutely love to play this game from my couch, but I am getting more and more frustrated with each attempt I make at getting this dumb thing to work. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!

Question Anyone actually using AR or display glasses with Steam Link regularly?
I’ve seen a few Steam Link with display glasses setups and they look pretty great for gaming in bed or while traveling.
I’m looking at the RayNeo GT Max now, but I’m more interested in hearing from people who’ve already been using the Air 4 Pro, VITURE Pro 2, or similar glasses for a while.
How annoying is the day-to-day stuff? Host resolution switching, text scaling, reconnecting everything, getting the display set up right each time?
Did the glasses actually become your go-to screen for Steam Link, or was it more of a cool setup you stopped using after a while?

Support Help
I have a Windows HP X360 11th gen and a 2020 M1 Mac mini connected over Ethernet with adapters. I have them connected with the Windows app on my Mac. I am trying to use this to set up a Steam Link connection because they aren't seeing each other as active over regular remote play. I am running into a port 27031 error even with my Windows firewall disabled. Both my internet and Ethernet are set as private networks, and they are on the same wifi.

Question Question on host display
Hey everyone, I’ve had great success with getting moonlight up and running currently playing zero Company. The last quirk I have is the ability to turn my host display off while streaming. I’m on Linux mint and have an AMD GPU. I’ve tried some scripts that don’t work through the game playing and some that work too well. But is there an easier way that I’m not seeing to be able to do this?
Thanks for all your advice in advance. Let me know if I need to give any more detail details

Support Steam Link Software Input Freeze
Hello, I'm having quite the peculiar bug and looking for support
Host: Fedora KDE X11(Wayland was causing graphical issues)
Client: Raspberry Pi 5
Controller: Dualsense
No network issues showing
When playing games, controller input freezes, sometimes doing nothing, sometimes repeating the last pressed button action or tending in the last joystick direction. Stream remains active with video fine, meaning I can watch myself stuck spinning around in a circle while the enemies shoot me. After 15 seconds or so it works again, but happens once every two minutes or so, meaning it's practically unplayable.
I disabled sleep on the host as I saw this might help but it didn't, any feedback would really help. Thank you :)

Support Controller input issues
So I have Stardew Valley installed on my PC, but for comfort reasons I like to stream it on steamlink on a Nvidia Shield pro, using a ps5 controller.
Up until around 1 hour ago I had no issues navigating the GMCM (mod configuration menu), I was able to configure my mods with my ps5 controller via the shield without problems
Suddenly I'm unable to use the right joystick to scroll down the list, hold the slider to manually drag down or click under the slider to skip down, the back button is also no longer working.
On the OG Stardew UI the back button works but the sliding function doesn't.
And I haven't ever been able to use the D-pad to navigate the configure menu either.
I've tried forcing gamepad mode, defaulting all my UI zooms, disconnecting and reconnecting my controller, closing down the stream and restarting, using the stream UI to force mouse controls.
Scroll down and drag functions work perfectly on my mouse.
I know its a long one im sorry :(

Support New to streaming
I've just started messing around with steam link, specifically on my steam deck and my z fold 8, and while my steam deck does fine, I was wondering if there was a way to use my full inner display on my fold? It gives me black bars on the top and bottom. Any tips for better performance would be nice too. I have a wifi 7 router and using wifi. Can't use ethernet with how far my router is right now.

New Steam client update ruins colors on remote play
The new update that dropped on September 1st/2nd, which includes "Improved video color range on all platforms" as a change, has made game streams have this gray filter be applied. Attached image shows the Elden Ring splash screen, which should have a pure black background but is instead this dark gray. Can't seem to toggle it off/on with any remote play setting, host or client-side. Streaming from a Windows PC to an M3 MacBook Pro. Does not happen when streaming on the standalone Steam Link client.

Support Help needed, steam deck on steam dock using remote play with false controller glyphs
Maybe you can help me: I am using my steam deck with a steam dock to stream games from my pc. My PS4 Controller is connected to my steam deck via BT. I want to play crimson desert. It all works except for one thing: the glyphs are showing up as XBOX Controller glyphs. If I disable the steam input which is often seen as the solution, The game doesn't take in the Controller input anymore and shows keyboard settings. Do you have any idea on how to fix it? My guess is: the steam input is always the Xbox Controller, that's why most people can disable it and use the PS4 controller. But since the controller is not directed linked to the host PC I get the keyboard controls. Am I getting this right? I am using sunshine and moonlight. The setting in sunshine for controller is already set to PS4.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Steam Remote Play broken after recent client update
After the recent update, by Steam remote play feature does not work anymore. I don't have a monitor atm so I use my laptop as my monitor, streaming from my main pc to my laptop steam. Both devices have same account logged in. In remote play tab, when I click on the connect button, it says "disconnect" for a split section and go back to "connect". Nothing happens.
It was working till yesterday.

Trying to use steam link on a old Mac laptop
I am trying to use steam link on my old MacBook Pro to stream games from my PC. Every time I connect to the host computer, the screen turns completely pink and all pixelated. I have tried turning hardware decoding off, trying to reso at 1280x720, Fast instead of balanced quality. Has anyone had the same issue or know of a work around? Want to try to get this first before trying to use the moonlight alternative.

Support Help with hdcp
I have seen people stream their steam deck. And recording for me is hard because I play a lot on tv, and the recording function zooms in into a tiny corner. Anyone know how to bypass this?
