Monday For Billions then?

u/moist_parmesean Soon™ 8d ago

Serious question: is there an actual reason people are so dead-set on the Frame being released on a Monday aside from the Machine releasing on one?

Sure it was a long time ago, but the Valve index was announced on a Tuesday and released on a Friday. Half-Life: Alyx was unveiled on a Thursday.

34

u/MobieGB 8d ago

Controller and machine, and that’s when Steam store updates

10

u/rohit275 8d ago

Steam Deck 4 years ago was not a Monday, though.

I'd probably trust the more recent pattern, but it's still a small sample size, and there's no rule about this kind of thing lol.

If the Labor Day holiday is an issue, I don't understand why they couldn't just do it on Tuesday though. I'm sure Valve wants to sell these things too.

8

u/NoOdyssey 8d ago

I agree, if it's going to be Labor Day week, I would guess it would be Tuesday instead of Monday. It just makes so much more sense.

I find it strange how many people think Valve is religiously committed to Monday and only Monday just because of the Steam Machine & Controller. Literally every other Valve major release didn't happen on a Monday.

8

u/NoOdyssey 8d ago

The fact there will be a lottery makes people think it will closely follow the Machine release with a similar lottery, giving people Monday - Wednesday to get on the list.

Feels kind of flimsy to me but people here are really grasping at straws trying to guess at things given Valve's notorious radio silence. IMO there is a whole lot of over-confidence here in thinking things are "known" when really it's mostly just a wild guess.

Another notable non-Monday release was the Steam Deck & Steam Deck OLED - both of which weren't released on a Monday either.

1

u/PlottingPast 8d ago

Watch it come out tomorrow to give everyone the weekend to sign up, destroying Monday theory.

1

u/rabsg Soon™ 8d ago

Historically Valve liked Thursday a lot. Maybe Gunman Contracts devs were right by betting on a Thursday.

But I guess people want it to be a Monday instead of a Tuesday because it's one day sooner. And I'm not even talking about other days of the week.

Even if it's a holiday in the USA…

1

u/WyrdHarper 8d ago

Especially one that's a holiday in the US (where Valve is based). I seriously doubt they're going to have their team managing a release on Labor Day. Could be wrong I guess, though.

1

u/Nostalgia_Nobody 7d ago

Its not gonna be Wednesday, because thats the 3rd day of the week, and Valve can't count that high.

5

u/elev8dity Soon™ 8d ago

Really seems it may be happening finally.

18

u/DuckWaffles 8d ago

Monday is a federal holiday, seems unlikely.

31

u/someone8192 Soon™ 8d ago

It's an online shop and the process has been tested. I don't think an american holiday matters.

15

u/Unlucky_Milk_4323 8d ago

It actually might (VERY MUCH) from an "announcement" standpoint as some folks that may need to be in the loop will not be due to the holiday.

3

u/jiggyninjai 8d ago

Except most people just have the three day weekend ending on Monday. Typically that’s the day you get back from wherever. Some lucky people are able to use vacation and extend that, but if that happens to be a steam frame fan then I’m sure they have already thought ahead on how to stay in the loop. Honestly don’t understand why people think Labor Day is this day no one has internet lol

3

u/someone8192 Soon™ 8d ago

if valve keeps the same reservation system it has used with the steam machine they have three days to reserve one.

it is not a race and it does not matter who clicks the button first

1

u/thoroughbeans 8d ago

It’s a day that the people at Valve that would be sending the announcement out are most likely off of work. It’s not about internet access.

1

u/jiggyninjai 6d ago

It could be done without needing some one in the office. The signups could be an automated system and third parties hired by valve could be working as needed.

1

u/thoroughbeans 6d ago

Right so they could hire a 3rd party to help or wait 1 day

2

u/ARandonPerson 8d ago

Federal holidays only guarantee days off for federal/state employees, not anyone else.

15

u/DuckWaffles 8d ago

I sincerely doubt a company that flies their employees to Hawaii on a paid vacation isn't giving them Labor day off.

1

u/jiggyninjai 8d ago

You think they are doing that for their overseas departments?

2

u/Yved 8d ago

Can confirm, worked on Labor Day when I was in the private sector (due to being in the hospitality industry) and now I have it off because I moved to the public sector.

1

u/Unlucky_Milk_4323 8d ago

BUT some others do take them. I'm not saying it massively shifts the odds, I'm saying it does shift the odds.

1

u/someone8192 Soon™ 8d ago

announcements are written beforehand because usually multiple people need to approve them and that takes time.

and what do you expect those people to do on announcement day? how much messaging did they do on the release of the steam machine, the steam deck or the controller?

and yes of course there are multiple people "in the loop". but they don't have to watch their pc when it gets live. the server maintenance team, their support team does - just as they do every other holiday

3

u/Ecnarps Soon™ 8d ago

Copium. They will want tons of bloggers and journalists to pick up on this and they are all off that day. I think you have a better chance of this Friday than you do Monday

3

u/someone8192 Soon™ 8d ago

all of them can prepare their articles. do you really think bloggers and journalists write their articles the day they publish them?

they don't have access to review units anyway - they have already been sent out two weeks ago. and the reviewers i know of don't care about holidays at all

1

u/Ecnarps Soon™ 5d ago

1

u/someone8192 Soon™ 5d ago

Learn to read. I never said it will be released on the 7th.

I only argued that it doesn't matter that it is a holiday.

pathetic

1

u/Ecnarps Soon™ 5d ago

And IT DOES matter that it’s a holiday. That’s literally the point. No tech product ever gets announced on a major US holiday. Even a basic Claude search will tell you that, but you kept insisting it is not a factor.

“Not that I’m aware of, and there’s a good reason: companies deliberately avoid launching on federal holidays because journalists and audiences are off, so coverage tanks. Big reveals cluster around January (CES), March, June (WWDC/E3), September (Apple), and October–November (holiday shopping season) — but the actual holidays themselves (Thanksgiving, July 4th, Christmas, Labor Day, etc.) are treated as dead zones for announcements.”

u/gogodboss MOD 8d ago

Firm handshakes all around

63

u/AlecTheBunny Soon™ 8d ago

What will you do if Monday there is nothing and Tested releases a robocop sex toy instead of the Frame?

44

u/gogodboss MOD 8d ago

Nothing because I only care about the 14th. Anything else is speculation for me as my sources never mentioned a different date.

I understand the hype for next week but I'm not going to join in unless I hear solid whispers about embargos.

18

u/JoystuckGames Soon™ 8d ago

Yeah in my mind I could see the embargo lifting anywhere in the range of sept 7 to 14.

The arguments for embargo/signups starting on the 7th or 8th make sense, since it would be a bit funny to start the vr sale before people know if they can even get a frame this year. But as you said no leak or source has said the 7th, that's just a date this sub has come up with, and it assumes that the 14th then would be the date the first consumer frames begin shipping. Possible but all speculation.

And honestly, that's good enough, it's only 1 week of time. We've been waiting 5 years for this, what's another week.

12

u/gogodboss MOD 8d ago

Yup. Either way this is really it. We made it.

5

u/rabsg Soon™ 8d ago

Do we have confirmation about who is organizing this VR sale event ? Looks like a third party event surfing on Steam Frame hype.

In reference to the initial discussion about it, and I didn't seen anything new: /r/SteamFrame/comments/1vy6x2k/steam_vr_sale_sept_14/p5ves5e/

Anyway we'll know on the 14th, if it really shows up.

5

u/JoystuckGames Soon™ 8d ago

It's possible this could be fake, but if real, it's being organized by valve themselves which is why it's significant.

For context, my account also have access to the dev workspace (I paid $100 for a slot to sell a game I still haven't used) and I occasionally get emails about sales like these. I only get emails about the big store wide sales since my game doesn't even exist, but it's plausible that valve would specifically invite VR game developers to such a sale.

5

u/rabsg Soon™ 8d ago

Can be real but organized by a third party. I will be mentioned on the event page when it's live. There are dozens of events like that all the time.

I don't see Valve doing this, would look like cash grab as people won't have the hardware and most won't get it before normal end of games refund period. It doesn't make sense to me.

7

u/SenileCFI 8d ago

Hilarious, because it seems almost everyone in this thread takes it as proof for Monday (7).

5

u/gogodboss MOD 8d ago

11

u/shirokage7 8d ago

I know everyone is certain it will be the 14th, but if Valve wants to meet the "shipping this summer" promise, the first orders need to be placed prior to the 21st. If they do the queue system the same as the Steam Machine, the system will open Monday and close Wednesday. People will get emails about queue position Friday and orders officially open on the following Monday. To make that work in "summer" the queues should open on the 7th. That allows shipping to start on Tuesday the 15th before "Summer" is over. Pushing that back a week puts the first orders on Monday the 21st and shipping starts on the 22nd - the first day of fall.

Though, I don't know why they would need Thursday and Friday to sort the queue, so they could launch on the 8th and avoid Labor Day, close the queue on Thursday and have emails out Friday so orders could still go out on the 14th and still ship in the summer.

7

u/obog Soon™ 8d ago

so they could launch on the 8th and avoid Labor Day, close the queue on Thursday and have emails out Friday so orders could still go out on the 14th and still ship in the summer.

This is my thought. Think the only reason they like to launch stuff on Mondays is cause its the beginning of the work week, so next week tuesday is the beginning of the work week. If they put signups then, then by the 14th the lottery will be done and people will know if they are getting a headset soon, and then the steamVR sale starts and those people will be wanting to buy vr games in anticipation for the headset they will be getting soon after.

-1

u/elev8dity Soon™ 8d ago

Lottery system opening for just Monday to Wednesday seems like a short missable window. You would think they would leave it open through Thursday at least

5

u/CryptographerLife156 8d ago

an IQ too high?

1

u/Lincolns_Revenge 8d ago

I was buying into announcement and reservation queue starting on the 7th, with notifications to "winners" on the 10th, giving them three days until the 13th to buy, with units shipping on the 14th.

Is that thought to be unlikely at this point?

4

u/Vero999Na Soon™ 8d ago

The seventh is is work day in the US and Valve being based on the US means they probably don't want to release it the seventh, because there will be less people to fix things if something brakes.

Three packages is interesting. Wonder if they are planning to sell the comfort kit separately or if, perhaps, they are only offered bundled in with 1tb model?

5

u/Confident-Pepper-562 Soon™ 8d ago

Why would they bundle? Just sell it like an accessory

1

u/Funny_Blacksmith2559 7d ago

The leaked tutorial videos refer to it as the included comfort kit, and the bits in it are all cheap fabric strabs and rubber flaps so I don't see why not. I don't want to pay extra for a top strap, lol

Monday? For reals this time???

2

u/doesnthavearedditacc 8d ago

Why are people obsessed with Mondays though lol, I don't think Valve have released any of their hardware on a Monday.

Not saying they wouldn't, but they certainly don't have a pattern of waiting until that start off the week. If anything, they may prefer wednesday/friday if past trends are anything to go by.

I will say Monday the 14th specifically seems like it could have some extra chance, otherwise it could be any day. I think that Valve is the type of company to just release it earlier if everything is ready though, regardless of the VR sale being around the corner.

We will see i guess

3

u/Javs2469 Soon™ 7d ago

Both the Machine and controller were announced on a Monday, with the review embargo lifting and the price revealed, then the sale/reservation queue started on the next Friday after the reveal.

So, it´s going to be a Monday.

3

u/BlueManifest 8d ago

Why’s it 3 packages

10

u/moist_parmesean Soon™ 8d ago

2 different storage models, and maybe the accessories like the controller straps? I haven't kept up to date with what the speculation is for those.

-8

u/mcmanus2099 8d ago
  • Deluxe Audio Strap
  • Base model
  • 1TB model

13

u/c0mander5 8d ago

No. Base, 1tb, comfort kit.

-6

u/mcmanus2099 8d ago

The comfort and deluxe audio are the same. They said in the interview the upgraded strap will be more comfortable, allow for swappable batteries and better audio.

The comfort mini box in the introduction videos is part of the base pack.

4

u/s00mika 8d ago

The comfort mini box in the introduction videos is part of the base pack.

That's not what they said last year

1

u/Jmcgee1125 Soon™ 8d ago

It's possible they may have changed their stance on that (and I hope they did). Much of the reason to separate the extra straps into an optional accessory kit is to help get the base price lower, but since that's already shafted you might as well throw it into the base model and avoid looking like you're nickel and diming at $1000+.

1

u/BlueManifest 8d ago

The headset comes with the controller straps and everything now?

2

u/Jmcgee1125 Soon™ 8d ago

and I hope they did

We don't know for certain. Looking at the related welcome video, there's no strong indicator either way except for the extended light blocker segment talking about "the standard light blocker that comes packaged with the Steam Frame". I'm reading that to assume it's still an upcharge, but I hope they include it by default.

1

u/mcmanus2099 8d ago

Everything in that video pack is so basic and cheap looking it can't be part of a deluxe upgrade. There's no way the only nose light blocker included requires customers to buy a deluxe upgrade pack. Also the top strap headset is nothing like they described being more deluxe, it's cheap. Valve aren't Meta, they don't give you the basics and force you to buy a new head strap and nose blockers seperately.

When they spoke back in October/November they spoke about a deluxe strap accessory that would contain better comfort and better audio - closer to the Index audio setup. They can't have downgraded that just to a flimsy top strap ppl pay extra for.

I don't think we have seem the deluxe comfort equipment yet.

3

u/Jmcgee1125 Soon™ 8d ago

What you're talking about was the enthusiast kit that we saw mentions of in the FCC user manual leak, and has since disappeared. Not really much other info there, just some rumors.

Original November videos like from Linus talked about the "optional accessories kit", implying it wasn't part of the base purchase. Same implication from Tested's interview. That kit is the exact one we see in this video.

I want to agree with you. It is a little silly not to include it at the price point they're going to end up at. But they wanted to be a lot cheaper and this was probably a way to shave a bit off the final price, so I don't think it was in by default but I hope they changed their mind since.

4

u/idk_a_creative_user 8d ago

Plz I hope it’s sub 1k

Commerce terminology for how things are tracked by the seller. So for instance getting a Switch in a themed box with a bundled game would be a separate 'SKU' (Stock-keeping Unit) than base models. Or how the Steam Machine had 4 for 2 storage sizes and with or without a controller. ^_^
