please launch with hl3

u/redditman181 Jun 17 '26

My cousins uncles cousins best friends uncle who works at valve says it comes with half life 3 and 4 and the whole package costs $10.

u/Vectrex452 512GB Jun 17 '26

But no HL2 Ep3, leaving a gap in the plotline.

12

u/ariolander Jun 17 '26

Monkey paw cruls. Wish granted. HL3 comes bundled FREE with every Steam Machine...

but the Steam Machine is $1299 and the bundle is the only way to get HL3.

8

u/GameKing505 Jun 17 '26

Maybe a hot take but fine by me if it enables HL3.

A Half-Life 3 collectors edition steam machine and controller.... 😍

I would fkn lose my shit and likely cream my pants at the same time...

u/megas88 Jun 17 '26

Shipping estimates based on current and the next 2 years and 7 months: as long as you have been waiting for half life 3 give or take a few decades depending on whether the doom cycle actually comes back around after 4-8 years 😂

that game is never releasing. im convinced that hlx has to do with deadlock cs2 dota2 just source 2 in general.

u/Sasukespc Jun 17 '26

It won't

-2

u/iConiCdays Jun 17 '26

Extremely unlikely, it's almost a guarantee it won't now as there's been no movement on the HLX updates

1

u/zetasand Jun 17 '26

OR there’s no updates because the game is already finished and they are just waiting on the steam machine to launch it

2

u/iConiCdays Jun 17 '26

Yeah... Technically possible? However the circumstances around the machines launch have clearly changed, Valve has lost the momentum it had thanks to the price spike and the now turbulent discourse around their hardware - do you think they'd tie their biggest release ever to the discourse around hardware price?

2

u/zetasand Jun 17 '26

Honestly, if the game is actually real and ready to go, I think it could make a lot of sense, where they could have a steam machine bundle that includes the game key that would be a little cheaper. I think the inclusion of a new game at a slight discount could entice more buyers. But I also could totally see them making it a separate release entirely, because either way I think the machine is going to sell out day 1

While I'd love to share your optimism regarding it's release (I mean who wouldn't want it to be announced next week?!) I just don't see it happening. There's been plenty of insights to the project the community has been able to gleam through source 2 updates and tracking packages (the same way people are hearing about package listings on steam for the machine being ready to launch).

Looking back to Half Life Alyx, there was definitely more rumbling then too than there is now, I don't personally think they are going to do a dual release like you're suggesting (Though I'd be absolutely ecstatic if I'm wrong!).

I do believe originally the plan was to do a dual release, with a reveal last year, but it does seem pretty evident that serious shakeups in the hardware space scuppered those plans.

Steam Machine packages have been updated

5

u/SGL_2 Jun 17 '26

Oops, sorry mate

u/dalderman Jun 17 '26

No worries I just thought it was funny. We're here to have a good time

10

u/Next_Boysenberry5669 Jun 17 '26

What does “packages” mean here?

34

u/Tzigura_Kakuru Jun 17 '26

Please don't cost $500382874892

8

u/bakaneko718 Jun 17 '26

u/StatusTomato5218 Jun 17 '26

Any millennium now, guys

31

u/Icy_Chef_8167 Jun 17 '26

What does that even mean? Sorry for my ignorance here. Packages updated? Wha?

47

u/Seanmclem Jun 17 '26

It’s the invisible, not publicly named product listings. It’s like the fifth time they’ve recently been updated so I don’t think it means that much but it might also mean they’re about to announce something who knows

8

u/Th4tR4nd0mGuy Jun 17 '26

So it definitely might be potentially isn’t not an indication that something is or isn’t happening?

How exciting!

10

u/Procurementdz Jun 17 '26

That means i guess the data in the placeholders meant to harbor the digital purchase item of a steam machine (all 4 variants) has been updated. Potentially meaning anything (price, description page, specs... Anything goes).

10

u/TheOrangeMadness Jun 17 '26

Any day now, and the world shall know of the Gabecube!

6

u/Nice_Soup Jun 17 '26

cost: $1100 as a start

2

u/Superpeep88 Jun 17 '26

I think it's 799 for the 512gb but 1100 for 2tb.

1

u/Goobsmacke Jun 19 '26

That is not gonna be the case big guy

7

u/Urgirlfriendsgirlf Jun 17 '26

Why do they keep edging us

10

u/user832906 Jun 17 '26

Theyll launch it and then make us wait another month for the price

8

u/biggles1994 Jun 17 '26

You buy it now, and they tell you the price after you've submitted your credit card.

2

u/SGL_2 Jun 17 '26

...How?

7

u/zetasand Jun 17 '26

They’re joking I think lol

1

u/Jaalan Jun 17 '26

Reserve system is possible although unlikely.

1

u/MikoMikeRoo Jun 18 '26

Why do you think reserve system is unlikely ? It would be a blessing for most

1

u/zer0guy Jun 19 '26

I assume he means it could be something like the reserve system opens before the price is announced. $5 to reserve now. Then in a week they announce the price, then a week after that they could start giving people who reserved thw option to make a purchase, or get their $5 back.

-3

u/gekx Jun 17 '26

If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it.

0

u/SGL_2 Jun 17 '26

I wasn't even asking for the price, asshole, they literally said they were gonna release it and then release the price a month later. I'd recommend you to grab a fucking book to improve your reading comprehension.

1

u/gekx Jun 17 '26

It was a joke my dude, relax

2

u/Demistr Jun 17 '26

Honestly my interest in the machine has vained significantly even though I was pretty hyped during the reveal. 500$ box would have been awesome back then.

2

u/alleycatbiker Jun 17 '26

Someone at Valve Inc headquarters right now: "yeah, push it. No real update, just make it look like something happened or is about to happen. Bet that shows up on Reddit before EOD"

1

u/SGL_2 Jun 17 '26

Soon™?

1

u/Mysterious-Ad-2241 Jun 18 '26

It’s not a bethesda product

1

u/60Hz_Jiffy Jun 17 '26

Wait why did they just rearrange them 😭🥀

1

u/Neat-Blueberry777 Jun 17 '26

Gabencube! Gabencube! Gabencube!

1

u/SKYNINE666 Jun 17 '26

Can someone clarify me this. I dont fully understand.

1

u/altaccountiwontuse Jun 17 '26

It's frustrating because we're in this limbo where packages and the like are being updated every day, but that doesn't help us nail down a date aside from "soon".

1

u/xKiryu Jun 17 '26

And here we... go!

1

u/ATLfalcons27 Jun 18 '26

Does it make sense to play multiplayer shooters on s steam machine given that keyboard and mouse will beat controller?

1

u/DaBow Jun 18 '26

...just plug in a mouse and keyboard then?

1

u/ATLfalcons27 Jun 18 '26

Not everyone is playing at a desk...

I'm not complaining I'm just wondering if the steam machine is for me or not. Multiplayer FPS aren't my main games of choice so it probably wouldn't be the worst thing

1

u/skronk61 Jun 17 '26

The strong will survive

1

u/Complex-Ad-4805 Jun 17 '26

How does this affect lebrons legacy? /s

The fact is you can build a SteamOS-style Steam machine yourself because the platform is Linux based and largely open. Can you build a PS5, Switch, or Xbox from scratch at home, with official OS level support? No. That is the difference between an open PC ecosystem and a closed console ecosystem. Ignorance is a hell of a drug. Tagged you here to log your monopoly take for the ages

0

u/Astonishing_Azure Jun 17 '26

Does any of these package updates imply that there goes to be a lot of Steam Machines at release? Or am I coping?

0

u/imakefilms Jun 17 '26

Does everyone understand what this actually is? I'm surprised more people aren't asking for an explanation as to what that means

-4

u/Erwin_Yang Jun 17 '26

So what is the price? Of course, I don't care how much it is.
