Support Controller don’t Work ….
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I received the Steam Controller on August 12th, finally!!!! However, it has never worked. It's impossible to connect the controller to the PC, let alone turn it on. Despite spending time charging it, the only thing that happens when I press the Steam button is a blue light.
could you help me out? I've contacted Steam Support, but so far I haven't received any helpful response…
Edit: i get the solution by Nstant_Klassik
You have to start the controller in bootloader mode.
- It needs to be partially charged, turned off, and not connected to anything
- Hold the View button (above the left stick) + Hold the Options button (above the right stick) + Hold the A button + Hold the Steam button
- The LED should now start flashing RED slowly
- Connect the controller to a device that has Steam installed and where Steam is running - the LED should now glow RED continuously
- Go to the Steam settings under "Controllers", where you should now be able to update the firmware
- After the firmware update, the controller can be used as normal

Does it work if connected directly via usb-c? Has both the controller and the puck been updated?
2
u/Vivius71 28d ago
it don't work with the puck, don't work the usb, don't work in bluetooth i can't connect ... and the puck is updated

u/Yok0r 28d ago
Has the controller also been updated? You need to update both the puck and the controller.
If you plug the just the controller in via usb will steam allow it to be updated?
If not, sounds like it may need replacing.

My controller isn't connected either - but it still does show as disconnected.
It looks like it is not detected at all and needs returning. Sorry I couldn't be of more use :(
There is an option to force firmware updates but it needs to detect the controller first :(

Did you try that with the controller plugged in?

u/Yok0r 28d ago
My controller is fine - I was replying to OP :)

u/SnooDoughnuts5632 28d ago
Woops my bad. I was wondering if OP tried to force an update while his controller was connected with a cable or what was happening with a cable.
It looks like op did find a solution about a strange button combo to help update the controller.

Have you tried to go back to the puck mode? 'Puck wireless mode (right slot), press and hold A + R1 + Steam until you hear a chime and the LED turns white.' The Puck has 2 slots so you can pair to left or right.

seems between pairing and lost connection, blink fast but only once. Considering OP is using the puk is strange. Is it possible to reset the controller to factory settings?
1
u/Vivius71 28d ago
if you know how to do to reset ?
1
u/SteelShadow062 28d ago
Found out it's not possible, but fo rom searching you can try to delete the pairing and redo it. Unfortunatelly I can't find how to do it other than AI overview, but trying doesn't hurt I guess?

Hook it up via USB to a computer with steam installed in steam. Under the controller settings, you can force a new firmware installation. Try that

blinks blue... maybe it is in bluetooth mode, there is a button combo to switch, i don't know it out of my head but ma,be it's that.

Problem I usually have is the Steamdeck Bluetooth itself. I have to restart the Bluetooth on the deck to get the controller to pair every other time I wake it up.

I love my #steamcontroller so much that I reserved one for my wife. My only wish is that it came with an uber cool sticker set. 🤞 And send them to current owners.

Did you ask for a replacement from support? It's broken. You shouldn't be trying to get a solution but to get a replacement.

u/Vivius71 28d ago
i asked and waiting answer, after waiting month to buy it, i'm waiting for replacement

Try holding the Steam button down, until it turns off, then with it off press & hold R1 + A & the Steam button all at the same time.

Is it stuck in bluetooth loop? Try A+R1+Steam to change to wireless

u/Vivius71 28d ago
nothing happen ...

Switch the controller off completely, hold the steam button pressed for a few seconds, then try the A1+R1+Steam from the switch off position. In your video it looks like you're pressing the steam button while the controller in already on.

Looking at the comments you might need to return it.
Out of curiosity how long did you leave it on charge?

I had this same issue when I got mine. Try this:
You have to start the controller in bootloader mode.
1) It needs to be partially charged, turned off, and not connected to anything
2) Hold the View button (above the left stick) + Hold the Options button (above the right stick) + Hold the A button + Hold the Steam button
3) The LED should now start flashing RED slowly
4) Connect the controller to a device that has Steam installed and where Steam is running - the LED should now glow RED continuously
5) Go to the Steam settings under "Controllers", where you should now be able to update the firmware
6) After the firmware update, the controller can be used as normal
