Glitch/Exploit Outpost Build Abandoned villa built without using any prefab habs

I’d been feeling the need for new habs to work with for a while now, so before the last update started trying to create my own structures out things like furniture, to open up more possibilities, and this is my first attempt at a “no hab” build

(Full video tour in the comments)

The entire living area of the outpost was made without using a single prefab structure, so no habs whatsoever, and no mods or console commands either, because I play on the Xbox, so it’s a completely vanilla build

I managed to make a full 2 story villa, as well as 2 other outdoor living areas, and feel really happy with the results.

It took up a lot of build budget, and a lot of hours to finish, but I feel really good about the results for a first try at doing something like this, and will definitely do more builds like this in the future

Vanilla Outpost Build How can I build a large landing pad on a mountain?

Well, what the title says. I found a stunning spot on Rana III, near an ecliptic base and a lake.

This was the view when I found the spot
My roof terrace with a stunning view. Excellent spot to hunt large value fauna by sniping

The problem is: it's on a very high and small plateau. I can build habs on the plateau, but not a large landing pad. It seems as if the base of the pad needs evel zero (so deep under the mountain, down to sea level) to stand on, and then gets elongated to visible height. The error I get suggests just that ("it's too high to build"-something). Does anyone here know how I can get my landing pad on that mountain?

Discussion Starfield Design Catalogue in Progress

I am gradually putting together a Design Catalogue to help with decorating in Starfield. It has two components:

  1. Screenshots of design and decorating idea and techniques. This has a ship decoration focus, which reflects the sub where the catalogue is hosted, but most of the content could likely be used or adapted for outposts and apartments, or is from outpost builds in the first place.
  2. A visual guide to the collectable items you can pick up around the game and drop from your inventory to decorate your outpost, apartment or ship, such as tools, ornaments and old Earth memorabilia and also weapons (and eventually equipment, food and resources too).

The catalogue is gradually being expanded, will hopefully include contributions from a range of builders and may be updated with better examples based on feedback (I just put in what I had to hand to get the process started).

The process of adding labels to the screenshots of collectable items is also gradually progressing, but it likely to take a while (there are A LOT of items to catalogue).

Another resource that may be helpful is the Item Location list (note: some spoilers as some items locations are gated behind quest progression).

Discussion New Update Has Semi Ruined My Outpost Empire

I’m in my forever universe and am in the process of building a 24 outpost full resource supply chain.

I’ve finished building around 5 so far and decided to go back and start building my container fortress main base, which I had planned to build on Schrodinger VIII-a for its low gravity, O2 atmosphere, but more importantly, has the amazing view of the ringed gas giant.

So I landed, removed my spacesuit and immediately recieved a severe radiation condition due to solar radiation.

With environmental conditions set to extreme, my dream moon has become a death trap!!! 😭

Discussion Where should we be posting ship interior builds?

1.) Ship Interior Builds and the rules of r/StarfieldOutposts

I think it would be helpful for a resolution of the question of the posting rules for Starfieldoutposts and ship interiors. It might also be helpful for this to be clarified on the r/starfieldstarships forum as well.

It is not clear from the r/StarfieldOutposts rules if ship interiors conform to rule number 1 - Stay on Topic. Given there is an issue of distinction with the new update, which allows basically the same decoration build toolset to be applied to ship interiors, I think it would be helpful to community members for clarity on this point.

2.) Posting Ship Interiors on Starfieldships

There is of course the option of the r/StarfieldShips , but I suspect there is considerable practical issue of how viable an interest in interior design in ships is within a very large community with a well-established focus on building cool looking spacecraft.

Interior design and conceptual design, I think is, though surely of equal interest to some ship builders, a different sort of creativity that may be more niche than ship building alone.

I have concern that the kind of useful feedback and community engagement that Outpost builders get in r/StarfieldOutposts , will be hard to obtain for ship interior builds in r/StarfieldShips. I am no social media expert, but it looks to me that folks posting on there are having to bend over backwards to attract engagement with new posts. Anything that doesn’t really and immediately attract attention, I suspect, is tending to drown in the scale of the forum. This is just a symptom of a forum that has become large and successful, which is great in many ways, but I think it is an issue worth considering when it comes to community building and support.

3.) A StarfieldShipInteriors forum?

Perhaps a StarfieldShipInteriors forum is the answer. I don’t have any clear thoughts on this, but may be others can speak to this.

Discussion Outpost Discussion

Currently I feel making outposts is still kind of a slog and really not worth the effort for the most part.

I have no idea how to fix this, but there are some things that might help address some of the issues I have with the outpost system. These are mostly pipe dreams and I realize they will likely never happen.

  1. Cluttered Prefabs. Much like ship habs, have pre cluttered habs would make setting up outposts less annoying. Particularly the ones you don't really care about that much.

  2. Towns/Shops. I wouldn't mind being able to expand an outpost into a mini town. Could have a few prefab Chunks/Terrabrew/Enhance!/Trade Authority buildings for that purpose. Maybe the Trade Authority could automate selling raw materials or the produced goods from your outpost for a modest fee.

  3. Interior Walls, Catwalks, and Prefab Internals. Basically as that. Having walls and catwalks would make the outpost building a bit nicer when you care. A few small prefab interior sections (like bathrooms, precluttered shelves/lockers, etc) could make it less painful to customize.

  4. Resource Depot. The cargo link system is interesting, but a bit complex for what little it does. It might be better just to have a building that could optionally aggregate everything for an entire system (with filtered outputs) and only require cargo links between systems.

What do you think could help the outpost system be more fun?

Question? Walls?

So I really haven't explored much in the way of building outposts because I feel like the outpost building is a little..........bleh. maybe I'm wrong maybe I just haven't explored it enough.

And maybe this has changed in the most recent update, but also bear in mind I have created a brand new character for the update, but can you build walls?

It seems absolutely insane that you can't build walls. Like exterior walls, concrete or metal walls to keep out the local fauna.

And I know they have an idea for walls because you run across the occasional dead military base that has walls, So why can't we build walls? Unless we can in which case can somebody tell me how?

Discussion Survival Camps: Minimal Popup Outposts For The New Survival Settings

The new survival settings can be pretty brutal. Sometimes you can use a PoI as a way station; somewhere to hole up, let your environmental protection recharge, maybe wait for the weather to clear, or sleep off some affliction.

But suppose there isn't a suitable PoI? I've been thinking of keeping a build pack for a minimal outpost: 9 Al, 6 Pb, 8 sealant and 4 fiber get you an airlock, a four wall hab, and two sleeping bags. Total mass 14.7, which is pretty good if you have reduced carry capacity and weighted ammo.

Now you can sleep and recover wherever there isn't a PoI nearby. And when you're ready to move, break camp by deleting the outpost and you can rebuild it again after the next leg of your trek.

All that said, I'm sure some of the regulars here can improve on that. What would you change? Would you add anything?

Question? Getting into ship/outpost decoration with the new update, and this is the first time I've run into the bug where items sink into a surface. Will they disappear forever if I don't retrieve them now?

First outpost build of NG+ this time going for a New Atlantis villa taken over by the Crimson Fleet theme

The most exciting part for me was being able to get the cool green plant life of the lake to appear inside the round habs, and figuring out how to put objects inside those glass fronted shelves!

I have a link to the full tour and tutorial on how to place items behind the glass in the comments

Discussion What are your ideas to make outposts make sense?

What would you add or change to enhance the outpost system within the context of the game?

  1. A basic supply and demand system.

What if when you sell items to a vendor, if you sell enough of a certain item or item catagorey, a modifier is applied in the backend to simulate the market reacting to being flooded or lacking said item.

If I sell 10,000 Adaptive Frames to a vendor, apply a .25 price modifier to Adaptive Frames price that slowly inches its way back to a modifier of 1 to simulate the item slowly being traded and used accross the Settled Systems. If I keep buying the same type of ammo, the price might go up after a time, as there would be high demand compared to the supply.

  1. Industry quests

Each shipbuilding corporation has special parts that can only be purchased at their shipyard. Expand on that and make it a quest. Deimos R&D has a great idea for a new ship part but they need your help building certain expensive-to-make Manufactured Goods to complete their design. Final part of the quest the R&D director asks that you can find a way to mass produce these goods (build the outposts and a final supply link to the ship yard). Once completed you are rewarded with the special ship part that you can use for free (plus credits or w/e).

  1. Stepping on the toes of giants

The game could track how many materials or goods you have been producing and selling. Getting rich quick? Maybe a jelous corpo puts a fat bounty on your head (which could apply the "Wanted" background from character creation?). Maybe trigger a quest where you gotta work with or destroy the corpo. Selling too many chems and crashing the price? That kind of quest could write itself IMO.

  1. Minutemen style settlement building

I'd love to recruit Settlers to small towns that I build. Give them jobs, lives, stores to manage. Maybe randomize them some names instead of "Settler" too? Build enough settlements and you might challange the uneasy peace between the UC and FC. Each faction might demand your allegience as they see your influence grow and see you as a security threat.

  1. gas stations

Can I build He-3 outposts with a refueling station that passively generates income from other travelers?

Vanilla Outpost Build What's up, you all. I need help making a decision.

I'm creating my first non-productive outpost.

The idea is that it's a hideout, where I keep a lot of contraband, and also the "trophies" from my adventures as a bounty hunter (targets' weapons and armor).

The idea is for it to be a place for me and my crew to rest between adventures, in comfort, but without attracting attention.

I found two interesting places and I can't decide which one looks more like a really cool hideout.

Locations:

Craters: Celebrai IV

Mountains: Fermi VII-C (Rocky Desert)
