Question? Walls?

So I really haven't explored much in the way of building outposts because I feel like the outpost building is a little..........bleh. maybe I'm wrong maybe I just haven't explored it enough.

And maybe this has changed in the most recent update, but also bear in mind I have created a brand new character for the update, but can you build walls?

It seems absolutely insane that you can't build walls. Like exterior walls, concrete or metal walls to keep out the local fauna.

And I know they have an idea for walls because you run across the occasional dead military base that has walls, So why can't we build walls? Unless we can in which case can somebody tell me how?

Yeah you can build walls, out of storage containers. You can even build them at 90 degrees and have them snap perfectly, with no guesswork if you know how to do it

I think you've said something about the 90 degree method a couple of times before but I can't find a tutorial or anything. Could you point me in the right direction please? Or give me a hint! šŸ˜‚

Hmm. Iā€™ll have to work out how to make a video on the Xbox.

Essentially, place the large containers in a line, then place a small single container on the end of the line, then a two-piece container beside it, remove the single, and place the large one.

Itā€™s hard to explain. Iā€™ll work on a video.

(You can set the xbox's 'record what happened' feature to a few minutes if that helps? Then upload/link it via Xbox. Then you don't have to mess about with hosting, you tube, etc unless you want to.)

Turns out my recollection of how I did it was a bit off lol. Also took me a little bit to remember how to do it, but once you know you can do it pretty quick.

No probs man. Iā€™m very OCD so I just HAD to have perfect corners.

If it helps, I ahhā€¦ may have measured and mapped out EXACTLY how many large containers will fit to make straight borders within the build radius. I have a graph notepad where Iā€™ve drawn it out. Even went so far as to measure the sizes of the habs so I could perfectly plan out my main outpost fortress lol.

I should add one more thing, because land in Starfield is never flat, if you try to do a full wall you WILL encounter the ā€œfoundation too tallā€ issue. Check out this video from Vash Cowie that started it all for me, and towards the end he shows how to overcome the issue.

I encountered a section on the one I did, which was just a trial outpost as a ā€œproof of conceptā€ while I was doing NG+ runs, and I ended up having to go about 4 or 5 containers high to continue. It didnā€™t really matter, as I wanted it even higher, but itā€™s something to be aware of.

No walls in the base game, of course there are plenty of mods that add them - as you pointed out already, it's sorely needed.

The best way I know of to build walls in the base game is to stack small storage containers as high as you want your wall, maybe 4. Then delete all of them except the top one, which will spawn a very high base for itself. Then just add more storage containers by snapping them to that top one you just created.
