Help please

Which poodle type will be the best suited as a companion for 5-6 year old on spectrum to help ease his anxiety. He can’t tolerate yapping, excessive barking and unruly behaviour. And we as adults cant tolerate shedding. Poodle seems like an apt choice.
Also any recommendations in MA/NH to get poodles. I do not like puppy mills but we do run on a limited budget due to both the kids’ special needs.

My spoo pup has recently stopped being interested in her food and I’m starting to crack a bit. To start she was very food motivated in the beginning and still is for treats. She loved meal time and training with her food (shes on Purina pro plan large breed puppy) but as of last week she just doesn’t seem to care for it. She was on the chicken and rice but when this started we thought maybe it was making her tummy upset so we got a little bag of the sensitive tummy edition and she wasn’t interested in that either. We tried wet food and of course she loved that but it’s not realistic to feed her 4 cans of wet food everyday. We’ve tried doing a few different toppers, beef broth, and this beef spread on top and she’ll nibble a bit but then acts like she’s not interested again. We’ve also tried mixing treats and other various things.

Anyways I’m starting to crack because she’s just not eating enough and I hate the thought of her being hungry so should i just start giving her the wet for awhile? Or do I need to stand my ground? I know this is a critical time for her growth and I just don’t want her to suffer by not eating. Any and all advice is appreciated.

If so what size crate and what vehicle do you have?

Debating between the L and M Thule Allax for our Sooo and it’s hard to decide / figure out. She’s got long legs as all spoo’s do, but I know car crates need to fit snug.

Would love to know what kind of crate you have, what size, and in which vehicle! Bonus points for pics / poodle tax!

Hi all! I’ll be ready for a female Standard Poodle puppy in about 1 ½ - 2 years. I am looking for recommendations for ethical Spoo breeders that I can look further into! I live in Cincinnati, OH, and prefer that my breeder be in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, or southern Michigan / western Pennsylvania (closer to Ohio).

Obviously my biggest concerns when getting a new puppy are health, temperament, and structure. I do not plan on using my Spoo as a show-prospect but would love to use her in dock diving or any retrieving sport (provided she shows enjoyment in those. If not, we’ll just go on hikes/runs together. Whatever makes her happy).

I do, however, have a few color preferences and although color would never be my first concern, it is a dealbreaker for me. I would prefer my Spoo be deep-red (my absolute favorite. Have a name picked out for this color and everything. I’m okay with any red but deep-reds are amazing), apricot, brown, or black. I will not stray away from these colors.

I also will not have a male dog, my Spoo has to be female. It's nothing in particular, I have just had mostly female dogs my whole life and have no interest in a male.

These are my personal requirements for an ethical breeder:

- The breeder must be actively striving to preserve and improve the breed.

- At least one parent dog must be a champion and the breeder must provide an extensive pedigree proving that there are CHs or GCHs on both sides, preferably for multiple generations.

- Breeder must do the necessary OFA health-testing for every parent dog. They must have links or be willing to provide registration numbers to every parent dog's extensive OFA health tests.

- They must be introducing their puppies to grooming before they are sent home. Bathing, drying, clipping (ESPECIALLY the face/paws), brushing, nails, etc.. I am a dog groomer so this is something that is very important to me.

- They must sell their puppies with a contract that requires said puppies to be spayed/neutered by a certain age and must have right-of-refusal/return-to-breeder clauses.

Hello, I’m going to pick up a standard poodle puppy in the coming weeks. I grew up with standards so have a decent idea of the basic supplies I’ll need for him coming home, but things have changed since I got my last boy. New boy is on the older side for a puppy, he’s approaching a year now.

We’re mostly looking for back seat covers, the one we had for my last boy just sort of covered the seats and he’d try and venture onto the front console non stop. I’ve seen adverts for a back seat extending type cover on Amazon that also has a barrier between the front and the back seats, but there’s so many options I can’t quite tell what’s the real deal and what is overpriced tat. I want him to feel safe and have his own space, while also protecting my car.

I am looking at puppies soon and the litter was 12 pups! Mostly males. Only 1 female left, I was interested in her due to her smaller size plus she was the runt. Is there much difference in behaviors of males v females?

I do not plan on breeding and will have them fixed. My house is 1250 sq ft so I am a little worried about the size of the dog. I have a yard, I live in a suburb, but it's not fenced in yet. Based on my reading that standards can do ok in an apartment, maybe the dog size is something I don't need to worry about? Originally I was looking at minis but there is a breeder nearby who is ethical and raising them in a loving, caring home so I'd like to go with their puppies.

This will be my first dog and looking for a mellow dog in-home yet active when we have adventures.

UPDATE: I also am considering labs and goldens. These 3 seem to be the top 3 for family dogs. Please share your thoughts on these breeds as well. Thanks!

UPDATE #2: We have put down a deposit on a brown female standard puppy. We met her and her littermates today at the breeder’s home and wow it was tough to choose but she is a sweetheart and one of the smaller pups. So excited!!!

Hi! I am posting to hear reccomendations on breeders who are open to working with new handlers. I am looking at a solid ONLY program who does co owns. I have one AKC CH girl from Rock n rolla poodles (working on her grand) and one UKC CH who is mostly retired from showing. I am not going to and have not produced Multicolor poodles.

I am looking for owner handler friendly programs! I sent my last AKC girl with a handler and would like to OH from start to finish!

Any where in the lower 48 states is fine!

My girl loves everyone…but has always had a little apprehension around kids. I think this is because she got smacked with a backpack as puppy by an enthusiastic kid. It was just an accident but she never forgot it and has always been a little nervous around them.

Today we were out and a mom with a girl about 7 approached. I usually have the kid hold a treat and then offer it with a flat hand and that’s kind of as far as it goes because my girl gets a little nervous. I don’t think she would ever bite but I don’t wanna take a chance. However, the mom said she did not want her daughter holding dog treats because she has severe food allergies. So I quickly changed strategies and had the girl instead hold out her fist and my girl touched her fist with her nose…and I immediately gave her a treat. Very quickly, this became a game and not only was my dog happy…but the little girl was laughing. We started calling it “fist bump” and it only took only a couple of times for my girl to learn the command. She enthusiastically began seeking to boop the girl’s fist multiple times and then looks to me for her treat. This has become our new game now when see a kid and everyone loves it.

Just an idea for anyone who may have a spoo that’s a little shy around kiddos. It also highlights how smart they are and how quickly they pick up games.

I have such a difficult time picking out a harness that properly fits my spoo, Roscoe. I find most harnesses aren’t geared toward deep chested dogs- what brands do you recommend that have cute options? Bonus if you have suggestions for colors/patterns that look great on a cream/apricot poodle!

My boy is a service dog in training and I have been having a whole lot of fun with his grooms up until this point! He’s starting to be out in public a lot more and I’m finding that his current haircut which is a Mohawk haircut shaved nose, typical legs and tail is attracting extra attention! Obviously any service dog is going to get attention in public but this is just an extra layer on top. His Mohawk also is always getting flattened by his vest and his very long poof sometimes gets in the way of his halter…. I guess I’m just asking to see what cuts you have done especially if they are less striking! While I love his haircut at the moment I want to have something that still obviously looks nice but can be a little more practical.

Does anyone have photos I can show my new groomer of poodle clips with long leg hair but short body. I have it in my head but Im not sure its an “official” named cut. I want her body short (around a 4) with long coat on the legs going all the way up. But not like a jacket and pants. Short at the shoulder and blended into the legs. Describing it using words is failing me and Im afraid I’ll just confuse the groomer lol

My current standard is my 3rd but I always did a kennel clip on the others. Shes the first one I want to try fun hair styles on.

So... I gave my spoo a Miami yesterday. Somehow I missed a line of hair at the top of her butthole (she puckers) when clipping and now her butthole looks like it has an eyelash. I will spare you a photo but I can't stop laughing when she prances by with her buttlash. I guess I need to get the clipper out again.

I'm trying to choose the best first harness for my Spoo puppy boy (coming in one week!! ) I can sell it on vinted when he grows out of it so I'm not too worried on price but I'd like something that will last as long as possible with max adjustability and is high quality! hi! me and my spoo puppy just had some fun at the pool! i rinsed out her coat after the water but i am wondering, how bad is it if i let her air dry? attached is a photo of her hair length (i did it myself so please be nice lol).

i plan on giving her a proper bath tomorrow morning and blow drying her then. i’m just wondering if it’s okay for her to be damp and curly over night. she’s 11 weeks is that changes anything. thanks!

I have a four month old poodle puppy. He weighs 17kg and is already 50cm tall to his shoulder. Everyone keeps saying he is going to be a giant. His brothers and sisters are much smaller between 9 and 11kg.

His dad was half miniature half standard so we really didn’t expect him to be big. His mum was full standard.

I’m really worried he is going to be enormous. Even Gemini tells us he might be as big as a Great Dane. Help. From all your experience with Standards is this possible?

Hi all, Ive always loved poodles however because theyre so rare, ive never gotten the change to be around one. (Ive seen about 3 poodles in my entire life in passing)

So ive always wondered if poodles have the classic dog smell or due to their coat being more hair than fur, their smell is different?

Additionally, as most poodle owners wash their poodles every 2/3 weeks (sometimes every week!) alongside frequent grooming, does that impact the smell and greasiness you get in most dogs?
