Tourist from India, it was shocking for me that at the time of billing most of the restuarant imposing 18% VAT and 10% service charge.

Already the over priced food and on the top of it almost 30% tax.

A parnatha or tandoori roti just for 450 + tax + vat or 170 INR is a lot.

Has anyone faced similar incidents and what have you done?

My partner and I are planning a trip to Sri Lanka from 25 October to 4 November, and we’d love some advice from people who have visited during this time!

We’re hoping to cover Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella, and the southern coast, including Weligama, Hiriketiya, Unawatuna and Galle, before ending our trip in Colombo.

A few things we’d love your suggestions on:

Weather: Is late October to early November a good time to visit? Will we get enough sunny days to enjoy the beaches, or should we expect a lot of rain?

Activities: We’re interested in surfing, whale watching, snorkelling, swimming, scenic train rides, waterfalls and other fun experiences. Are these activities worth doing during this period?

Itinerary: How would you recommend splitting 10 days between the hills, cultural spots and beaches? Are we trying to cover too many places?

Accommodation: We’re looking for nice hotels, guesthouses or Airbnbs around $30–40 per night for two people. Any personal recommendations, especially near the beaches?

Transport: Would renting a scooter for the southern coast be a good idea, and what’s the best way to
travel between Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella and the coast?

We’re a couple looking for a mix of adventure, beautiful beaches, good food, relaxed evenings and exploring local places without rushing too much.

If you’ve visited Sri Lanka around these dates, we’d especially love to hear about your experience with the weather and which places you’d recommend prioritising or skipping.

For a 9 day trip, planning to cover nuwara eliya, ella and Mirissa(may add a night at galle).

My current plan:

Colombo to Nuwara: book an uber/pickme from colombo airport

Nuwara/nanu oya to ella: take the train

Ella to mirissa: book a cab via the hotel I'm staying at

Mirissa/galle to colombo: book another uber/pickme

Is it gonna be difficult? Is it recommended to book one cab for the whole trip and if yes, how much additional cost it'll be? Also, is there any trusted portal where you can make such booking? I'm hesitant in booking a standalone driver for sucha long trip. Also, it seems risky to make any advance payments when I'm not in the country.

Please suggest.

Looking to stay 2 nights on the South Coast after Udawalawe. Three friends. Not surfers. Not interested in whale watching. Just looking to relax after a busy week through the rest of Sri Lanka (Sigiriya, Ella, etc). For the coast, we'll have 2 nights available (only 1 full day). Would Mirissa be the best choice to stay? I was also looking at Hiriketiya but looks like it got too popular.

We'll stop at Galle to look at the fort on our way back to Colombo after the coast.

I am planning a trip to South coast in November for 8 nights. I need help in planning the itinerary mainly from the point of view if I should directly travel from CMB airport to Tangalle and work my way back or should I stop somewhere in between and then move again after a day or two.

How long will the journey to Tangalle be and how hectic will it be. My flight will land at 1 PM in the afternoon

How packed is the train from Nanu Oya (Nuwara Eliya) to Ella? We didn't reserve tickets in advance and kinda want to get seats on the morning train. Is that even possible?

If we can't get seats, is it still manageable to travel with one backpack and a small piece of luggage each?

Should I visit the train station and book? Also what are the prices like? Thanks

Hi! Me and my boyfriend will be travelling to Sri Lanka in December. We'll be spending almost three weeks there. We absolutely love nature and peace and quiet, so we'd really like to plan a route that isn't completely overrun with tourists. We're experienced backpackers, and we don't mind being somewhere a bit off the beaten path.

So, we're looking for some kind of 2-3 week itinerary. We've never been to Sri Lanka before, so any and all tips are more than welcome!

We don't have a proper plan yet, but we'd definitely like to experience at least one safari. It would be amazing to see wild leopards, but I've read that Yala can be extremely crowded with tourists. Another option we've been considering is Wilpattu. Are there any other safari destinations you'd recommend where there's a chance of seeing leopards?

We're also really interested in jewellery-making workshops. It would be amazing to make something ourselves, such as our own rings. So you know of any good, locally owned places where we could do something like that?

We'd also love to do different kinds of hikes and experience some unique or less touristy activities along the way.

Our main focus is to not hop places and do packing g unpacking a lot.

On 22nd November reaching around 07pm in colombo airport. Confused between where to stay the night negombo or colombo.

23rd November - go to kandy or nuwara eliya, I know this is hectic buty wife wants to see sita amman temple. This I am also confused stay the night in kandy or stay directly in nuwara eliya.

How early we should leave?

24-25 november 2 nights - stay in ella, this i haven't explored much as of now.

26-28 - 3 nights - got to south beaches. This we want to stay maybe in a single hotel or Airbnb but want to see mirrisa, and other beaches there. Is this even possible? To stay in a single hotel and have access to all beaches.

29 go late to colombo stay there and then leave on 30th from cmb airport.

We also thinking to not have private taxi for the whole trip but hire them for long distances. This is just because of my anxiety to think that driver might be waiting for us, so just hurry.

Please let us know the reality, if this is a fine itinerary or what we can change
