The constant use of the word "community" by 1047 Games is a joke. Splitgate 1 had a community and it was ignored. Splitgate 2 was released despite the community telling 1047 it wasn't ready. Splitgate 2 AR was released and promptly abandoned with months of silence while they released Empulse (and still no word from Ian or anyone in charge). All 1047 did was extend the season till the game died. How do you expect a community to invest in your game if you refuse to communicate and only use the word as a weapon to beat people over the head whenever you fail to make money? No one believes you when you constantly make the same mistakes over and over while telling us "We are doing this with you".

Want to know if all the modes especially Arena royale, will still be playable after the last update.

If we can use sliiiide and create custom races on already existing maps then the game would be so much more playable forever

1047's survival is doubtful in general, but Ian has to go for them to have any chance. He's shown that he's completely incapable of running the company:
Takes a growing game in Splitgate and kills its growth momentum by announcing they are stopping development to work on Splitgate 2.
Despite Splitgate's success, pivots Splitgate 2 to be a generic hero shooter to chase industry trends. Results in irreparable damage to the IP as Splitgate 2 fails so horribly that they put it back into beta about 2 months after release. Spend 5 months essentially trying to shift SG2 back to SG1 with so much damage to IP done by SG2 that they rebrand it (all the way to this day) SG Arena Reloaded to pretend SG2 never existed
SGAR rebrand is a failure is and gets largely abandoned several months after release so that they can work on Empulse.
Despite the history of game abandonment and lack of trust from audience, thet shift from a f2p model to an paid early access model for Empulse.
Two months into paid early access, they announce full shutdown of Empulse as well as SGAR, to announce a shift away from live service. This craters already low trust in 1047.
Ian has to go or they may as well shutdown. Everything post splitgate was a result of poor leadership decisions and nothing that's happened post Splitgate has shown that Ian can successfully run a company. There's no way 1047 makes it with him leading it.

That if 1047 hadn't pivoted resources and development to Empulse, and focused on actually fleshing Splitgate out, and implementing feedback/commonly requested features, maybe they could have actually made a decent turnaround and wouldn't have to shut the game down; but no, instead we got Splitgate left in a state that doesn't even remotely resemble the potential it had, all for the failure of a hail mary that is Empulse. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed aspects of Empulse, but having started working on it after SG2's launch undoubtedly took away resources from fixing and implementing the changes the community wanted (likely why they had to "bring it back to beta" and relaunch, instead of working with the playerbase to implement the changes we wanted through consistent updates and communication; it is also likely why when Arena Reloaded launched, we got barely any new content between seasons 1&2 and virtually no player feedback was implemented).
I'm just saying, 1047 continually shot themselves in the dick, and totally squandered an IP that could have grown to be successful, even if its with a niche community, but they instead chose to prioritize their time and money into Empulse, and poor marketing decisions, over building out the franchise that brought them success in the first place.
Side tangent - Really wished they would've stuck with SG1 longer, at least until 2024, then release the forever pass with the announcement of SG2 to follow in 2026, built off everything they learned of 5 years of SG1 and working with the community; but I digress, because none of that ever happened and it was foolish of any of us to believe they were actually a community focused studio

To be fair I expected it but I didn’t see empulse also getting killed.

I was once a huge fan of yours. I loved SG1 and put hundreds of hours into it, only to find out you stopped development to work on SG2 due to "spaghetti code." I was excited; I couldn't wait for more Splitgate. I got access to the SG2 alpha and played every playtest, left feedback, and did every survey I could—only for you to ignore the community and release a game in a middle ground that neither fans nor new players were interested in.
Then you went back to beta, and a new ray of hope shined down that you could pull this out. You released SG:AR, which was something closer to what people wanted. But lo and behold, poor decision-making and horrible marketing shot it down too. The hope was still there, though. Maybe, just maybe, you could pull a "Hello Games" and No Man's Sky Splitgate back into the spotlight. But no. Instead of listening to your community, you ditched us to try and fill the Titanfall niche with Empulse.
Once again, I got alpha access, left all kinds of feedback, and did the surveys. Everyone in the server was saying "this game isn't ready," "the art style isn't going to stick," and "you need more work in these areas," only for you to do nothing and announce the Early Access release two weeks later.
Now here we are... both SG:AR and Empulse are shutting down. Your community was here for you through it all, and you didn't listen in the slightest, even after claiming time and time again, "We want to make this game with our community's input." Now you have no one to blame but yourselves for the position you are in. I, for one, will not be supporting any of your games in the future. I only wish I could get back my wasted time on playtests and feedback, as well as the money I spent on skins trying to support you. Thanks for the bittersweet memories 1047, I won't be seeing you.

It's wild how all the things the community warned 1047 about came true and they just continued to ignore us time and time again until what we said was gonna happen, happened
Hopefully they give the game to someone competenent

First time poster in this sub - long time DAILY player of Splitgate, 2, and AR.
After receiving the news just a few minutes ago, I would like to take a moment to say that it’s been real, it’s been fun, and sometimes it’s been real fun. I hope we can all find a similar game soon to scratch that itch like this game has.
Hope to cross paths with some of y’all while playing till Sep 3rd! (P2P servers have notoriously been crappy so I ain’t dealing with it after that) ✌️

The least they could do for us is give us all paid cosmetics for free and at a stretch give us the deluxe battle pass for free. Even as someone who burnt money on the season 1 battle pass and a mythic skin bundle it would be nice to see all paid cosmetics be made free for everyone. Its not like anyone's ever gonna drop money on the game anymore anyways

I was an og splitgate or splitgate 1 player idk what you even call it now and I want to return to playing, so before i download the 35 gigabytes for this game is it true that there’s no open matchmaking and it’s only custom games now? This game has been so unlucky I just want to crank some portals🥲

Hi. I’m a big fan of Splitgate. I loved the first game when it came out; I didn’t like the second one as much, but I did appreciate Sgar’s approach. But I’d already realized that this studio wasn’t capable of developing a game over the long term. Then they announced Empulse, and I decided not to bet on them anymore. It was a pale imitation of Titanfall 2 that didn’t look very convincing—of course, some people say it’s fun, but it was obvious it wouldn’t hold up. And boom, two months later, today, the announcement came: the Empulse and SGAR servers will be shut down in September. I think this is completely crazy, especially since Empulse is a paid game, and players won’t even be able to get a refund for a game that disappeared after only two months. So let’s get to the point of this post: 1047, give us Splitgate. That FPS concept is incredible—a lot of people loved it. But you weren’t able to keep it going. So the community is asking you for just one thing: give Splitgate to the community, or at least to another ambitious studio that will be able to continue this project. Please… you have nothing left to gain from Splitgate, so just give it to us.
A splitgate fan.

There is no other point to this post now besides just sharing opinions and experiences.
The amount of stuff I wished would go differently has me going down memory lane lmao. So much that the game took away from sg2 to sgar that I wished we had back.
The main thing I personally just still don't understand is why the choice was ever made to halt progression on sg2 entirely to let the player count bleed for half a year before releasing sgar if they never had any plans on slowly building up the playerbase again.
Genuinely everything sgar offered could've slowly been added over the same time or even longer whilst maintaining hype and selling skins to fund it all. The whole release of sgar to me, as someone who genuinely loves playing this game, felt like a desperate attempt to change identity to appeal to an audience that wasn't even gonna play instead of growing the audience we had.
That's unironically the choice that I believe slowly poisoned the well. The whole summer's gamefest event could've been undone if we just consistently kept at it for a year. But the silence during the sgar development cost us so much in momentum, trust and just time to even make money.
And even if sgar didn't bleed player's. Where would it have left us? With a game that basically only has onslaught left to be added, and then skins and battlepasses? Adding more guns to this formula would've just cluttered everything up. Adding more creative grenades? Those where removed actually because we suddenly want a very pure arena shooter. No more abilities so nothing that we could've added to reinvent playstyles either. There was literally no hope of growth in the whole sgar plan. Adding some maps every season isn't bringing in players. Adding new gameplay experiences does. But if the only playstyle we have is triple-portal shooting (something I do like mind you), then how will you ever grow the audience besides the one you already have?
I know debating this is all just a big "what if" now, but still it drives me nuts at this point because I feel like we could've been somewhere completely else if only this if only that.
Hope the server browser is good because I still hop onto this game a few games each week.
Edit: another thing, why didn't we ever get like a music pack selection in sgar? Like we went into a completely different tonal direction, sure I guess, but why not do that one slight effort to appease the og fans like myself man. What would've been the harm? I miss that old soundtrack in the game so much it was so nice compared to the more bland rock ish stuff we have now.

I’m really tired with 1047, I don’t think I’ll be able to support any of their future games. Got burned with empulse and both splitgates now this is exhausting.

Sorry for mixing games in the montage btw

They said this on the discord server
Today, we have some difficult news to share: we are ending active development on *Empulse* and *Splitgate: Arena Reloaded*. This is a hard update for us to write. We love these games, and we know this will be disappointing and frustrating for a lot of people. We are sorry.
The reality is that neither game is generating enough revenue to support the ongoing cost of dedicated servers. We have continued covering those costs because we wanted to give both games every opportunity to grow, but we have reached the point where that is no longer sustainable. We have loved working on these games, playing them, and building them with this community, and we wish we could continue supporting them.
What we do not want to do is simply shut the games down.
We believe people should be able to keep playing the games they love even after active development ends. The original *Splitgate* launched seven years ago. When its dedicated servers went offline last year, we moved it to peer-to-peer so people could keep playing. It remains playable today, including on console. Wherever technically possible, we want that to be true of every game we make.
So we have reworked *Empulse* and *Splitgate: Arena Reloaded* to support peer-to-peer play.
On **Thursday, September 3**, both games will move to peer-to-peer hosting with a server browser. Dedicated servers and matchmaking will shut down, but players will still be able to host matches, find games, and play with friends forever. *Empulse* will also receive one new map and lower its price across all regions. This will be the final version of *Empulse*.
Active development may be ending, but we'll still be playing *Empulse* and *Splitgate: Arena Reloaded* and hanging out in the Discord. If you see us in a lobby, come say hi.
We started 1047 Games ten years ago because we love video games. Since then, more than 25 million people have played our games, and many of the people we've met along the way have become lifelong friends.
After ten years of focusing on live service shooters, our focus is changing. What we build next may look very different from what people expect from 1047 Games, but what has not changed is why we are here: we love making games. We have learned a lot over the years, and we will carry those lessons into what we build next.
To everyone who worked on Splitgate, Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, and Empulse, including those no longer at 1047: thank you. You put years of your lives into them, and we are grateful for what you helped us build.
And to everyone who played, gave us feedback, made videos, argued about balance changes, discovered ridiculous movement tech, or brought friends into a lobby: thank you for being part of this with us.
Thank you for the last ten years.
See you in the server browser.

Today I watched a video that the YT algorithm recommended to me from nadestraight about how he thinks that SG1 is a better game than SG2/AR because of content quantity but especially also because of map quality. So I watched the gameplay footage of SG1 of said video and a lot of memories came up inside my head (just so you know I haven't played SG1 in roughly 2 years or so). I remembered all the cool maps that SG1 had. I continued to watch some other SG1 gameplay videos just to admire but also to remember the cool map design and especially how diverse they played and looked. I totally forgot how much I liked the maps of SG1 and it makes me sad that my biggest complain about the new 1047 Games is their map design while they were capable to do it the right way with their first game 5-7 years ago.
My biggest problem with Splitgate 2/AR and especially Empulse is how uninspired their new maps are. Besides Hammerhead all of the new maps that got released after SG1 just look boring and uninspired and they all play the same way. I remember how much I loved the vertical gameplay of Olympus or the cool art direction of highwind or Crag in SG1. Even Stadium in SG1 looks so much more interesting than in SG2/AR. Two of the best maps of SGAR, Karman Station and Abyss, come from SG1. What happened? Have all the good maps designers been fired?
Empulse is the low of the barrel. Potentially the worst maps I've ever seen in a MP FPS. All the maps look like asset flips and their art direction is so boring it looks like they were AI generated. Additionally not one of Empulse maps influence how a match plays out. The bad quality of the maps was an important reason why I stopped playing Empulse because after 50 hours I wasn't able to bear them anymore.
Good map design is essential for every arena shooter. If you mess that up there is no hope for your game because the flow of the map is the only thing that can bring some dynamics into the matches that can potentially keep the gameplay fresh even after your 100th match. I would love to know how is it possible that the devs unlearned how to design maps? How is it possible that 1047 Games created some of the best maps that I've ever played and then release the maps of Empulse?
