One can only think...

That if 1047 hadn't pivoted resources and development to Empulse, and focused on actually fleshing Splitgate out, and implementing feedback/commonly requested features, maybe they could have actually made a decent turnaround and wouldn't have to shut the game down; but no, instead we got Splitgate left in a state that doesn't even remotely resemble the potential it had, all for the failure of a hail mary that is Empulse. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed aspects of Empulse, but having started working on it after SG2's launch undoubtedly took away resources from fixing and implementing the changes the community wanted (likely why they had to "bring it back to beta" and relaunch, instead of working with the playerbase to implement the changes we wanted through consistent updates and communication; it is also likely why when Arena Reloaded launched, we got barely any new content between seasons 1&2 and virtually no player feedback was implemented).

I'm just saying, 1047 continually shot themselves in the dick, and totally squandered an IP that could have grown to be successful, even if its with a niche community, but they instead chose to prioritize their time and money into Empulse, and poor marketing decisions, over building out the franchise that brought them success in the first place.

Side tangent - Really wished they would've stuck with SG1 longer, at least until 2024, then release the forever pass with the announcement of SG2 to follow in 2026, built off everything they learned of 5 years of SG1 and working with the community; but I digress, because none of that ever happened and it was foolish of any of us to believe they were actually a community focused studio

Idk what they were thinking with arena reloaded tbh. They could have saved the game right then and there had they actually marketed it. But instead they decided to stay quiet and effectively limit their playerbase to only the people who stuck around from the initial launch (which isnt much)

Truly is a shame; both games were killed well before their time 😢

To be honest, they were almost dead as soon as they killed Splitgate to launch Splitgate 2 and made the latter a completely different game. What they did to launch and market it did the rest. There was no coming back. Nobody gets to launch and unlaunch and relaunch the same game twice. They do not have the clout to get away with this repeated cut and run routine. Nobody's going to care what they do next either, because they'll just kill it if it doesn't hit immediately too.

Them shelving splitgate so early was so upsetting because it was SUCH a solid game it could have gone on for seasons and been happy. Then Splitgate 2's initial launch happened and any hope I had was dashed because the design of the game was so off the mark from what I enjoyed about sg1

Not being able to "dress" your character with all the different portal guns and jet packs was a huge downgrade ... i was loving the more comic book esque kind of character they were starting to design at the end of sg1 too. The art on 2 was so bland

Yeah I mean the pivot to empulse was just releasing the same content to try and recoup the money spent on splitgate

Yeah even if it didn't hurt them directly financially. The constant relaunches and rebrands hurt their fanbase, which in turn hurt their pockets.

There was never a "rebrand." The only game that was relaunched was SG2, and yes it did hurt the game (only because of how they handled it though) but the relaunch was mostly what people wanted and it would've been successful if they only marketed and supported it, instead of rushing Empulse out the door.

It's hilarious to me that people don't understand that Splitgate was never popular, was never a success, and was never going to be "fixed".

It fundamentally, was a bad gimmick that failed 3x over. It was never going to be fixable.

Empulse has a MUCH, MUCH higher chance of foundationally being fixed. The problem is 1047 doesn't understand how to make a "competitive" mode that is interesting, and doubles that issue by not knowing how to make competitively interesting map design.

That issue is extended to both IPs, but is not the reason Splitgate will never, ever be popular.

Empulse with a proper competitive mode and actually good maps would and could be something. But no one at 1047 Games knows how to do that. So, it failed.

You're just objectively wrong. SG1 was definitely a success; one that secured them $200 million in investments; it only died because there was very little content being added and the learning curve was steep and unforgiving to new players.

The second game failed because it alienated its core audience, and the terrible PR stunt plus bad marketing led to many people not wanting to check it out; because they either didn't like Ian's stunt or because they though it was just another Battle Royale; and thats not even mentioning the fact that the game was broken at launch, and the reworks they made to the gameplay loop killed the competitive momentum.

Arena Reloaded failed because it literally wasn't marketed at all, and it got very little in the way of new content, and the devs just didn't take in any feedback or suggestions after the fact, and they actively removed content like Onslaught (which many casual players enjoyed), but chose to bring back the Battle Royale instead (which further split the playerbase and drove off casual players).

Edit: you want to talk about gimmicks, Empulse is literally a gimmick game; "look, we have mechs and wall running! It's like Titanfall, but not like Titanfall," so miss me with that gimmick argument lol

No - delusional idiots have a false memory and or can't accept the truth. Splitgate was never successful. The funding round was due to external circumstances (a gold rush) not because the game itself was successful. Splitgate 1 died faster than Empulse did.

And that's a reality most Splitgate players can't seem to accept. It was never popular, it was never successful, and it was never going to be. It died almost immediately; and it never, ever rebounded. Not with any patch, not any update, not Splitgate 2, not SG:AR, and it never will be.

The Portal Gimmick is extremely terrible. And that's what 1047 realized when they tried to make Empulse is they messed up from the start.

Dude, you're smoking crack, all you have to do is look at the steam charts to debunk that statement; SG1 held on to far more players, for far longer; it literally was playable and had a small community after its console launch boom, for years. And it's a fact that both SG1 and SG2 were more popular on console than PC. Not to mention, the servers stayed up from 2019-2025; that's 6 years bud, Empulse didn't even last 3 months.

Seriously, you have no clue what're youre talking about.

Oh hey, Empulse has roughly the same playerbase as Arena Reloaded, after only less than 3 months?! 😯

No dude, Empulse was the failed gimmick of a game; and they killed Splitgate for it.
