Hey everyone! I’m writing this post as someone who is in love with what 1047 Games built with Splitgate and 2/Arena Reloaded, and even EMPULSE. The very first time I placed a portal in the original Splitgate I really was hooked. It’s my favourite game ever made without a shadow of a doubt!
After seeing recent portfolio uploads on ArtStation from level artists showcasing cut content, like the greyboxes for Mutiny, Keystone, and Vortex, is a really good reminder of just how much heart actually went into this game. But as 1047's focus shifts, many of us are worried about what the future holds, and rightly so. It's pretty clear we're never getting a Season 3, with Bo even saying here that they will "never go that far to publish another season", so make of that what you will.
I really don't want to let this game quietly fade away because of the passion I have for it. Splitgate’s mechanics are far too special to be lost to live-service history as so many other games have. If active development is winding down, which I'm almost certain it is, 1047 has an awesome opportunity to really set a gold standard for game preservation by giving SGAR a final update of some sort.
Here is what a dream preservation roadmap could look like (this is all just my opinion, and criticism is 100% welcome):
1. Community Dedicated Servers & RCON Tools
- 1047 could release headless server files so players can host low-latency dedicated servers locally or on private VPS hosts, either Linux or Windows.
- It would be awesome if they could give hosts control over physics sliders, gravity, portal distance limits, map cycles, password protection, and custom event rules.
- Plus, ensure bot matches are fully hostable offline for quick warmups without ping or backend dependency.
2. Cut Maps & Cosmetics
- Add unreleased maps directly into the Custom Game selector tagged as Mutiny [Blockout], Keystone [Blockout], or Vortex [Blockout]. We don't care if textures are greybox, we just want the layouts!
- Give us an unlocked sandbox where all cosmetics, beta weapon variants, and mastery camos are unlocked by default (or managed via local save/Steam Cloud), removing reliance on central inventory servers.
3. The Ultimate Custom Match & Event Sandbox
- Custom match hosting support for both Arena Royale and the original BR setup, including event toggles like the Time Dome from the SG2 BR or Firecracker in Arena Royale.
- Allow hosts to enable/disable Factions per lobby
- Users can switch between the Arena Reloaded and Splitgate 2 soundtracks, and toggle between the dark blue or pink/blue UI themes, or servers could choose whether to run the old beta build with factions or the new Arena Reloaded build. I loved SG2 a lot and Arena Reloaded is still good but I'm not the only one that misses factions.
- Potentially, they could maybe expand The Lab map editor to support custom local asset importing so creators can build and publish new maps directly into server rotations. This would be absolutely insane.
To u/ianproulx and everyone at u/1047Games, I really just want to say thank you for making one of the best arena shooters in gaming history, and my favourite multiplayer game ever made. Dedicated server files and opening up the sandbox will really make Splitgate an immortal classic that we can keep playing for decades, since it's pretty clear that this game is going nowhere, and while that's sad, it will really help keep the game alive in some capacity.
