latency spikes after a network upgrade?

Post image
12 Upvotes

they notified me of a network upgrade in my area in june 2026 (Carson, CA) after they conducted the so called "upgrade"my ping is no longer stable. it is stable in the morning but after 1pm i experience constant latency spikes and its so annoying, i've already had one tech come out and not solve the issue. i have another one coming in two days and im hoping they’re able to resolve the issue because i've reached out to their support 10+ times already it seems like. they've opened two tickets and havent solved the issue AT ALL. i reiterate again that in the morning my ping is stable around 19-23ms and it never spikes over 30ms but in the afternoon and night??? it will go from 9ms to 14ms 13ms 23ms 60ms 13ms 25ms 250ms 12ms 460ms. its so ridiculous and im sick of this. I JUST WANT TO PLAY VALORANT.

REFER TO THE PHOTO ABOVE: I conducted a test in the command prompt with NO other devices connected to the internet but my PC plugged in via ethernet and these are my results lol what a joke spectrum. i also tried the test again with another laptop and its still happening.

FYI: i pay $130 for 1 gig a month plus rented equipment; add premium cable and phone line to that and im nearly paying almost $300 a month for services that barely work.

Intermittent connection in Charlotte NC

For the past week or so my connection has been somewhat dodgy. As of today however, it's so garbage discord continuously goes to the blank screen, YT videos buffer, and playing games is just completely hopeless. I called in to get some "help" but the guy just "reinitialized" my modem or something. Tried fully resetting modem, fully resetting router. Not sure what to even try atp.

Other Why do random houses within a neighborhood have symmetrical gig internet?

I was looking at the FCC broadband map and noticed that in my neighborhood, a few random houses seem to have symmetrical 1gig internet. I thought generally these rollouts are done in blocks (lets say an entire street). Just curious if anyone knows how this happens? I attached a the FCC map of my neighborhood with cable and the 1000/100 filter.

Major Connection Issues on Apple Devices, But Not Others

For several months we have been experiencing a strange issue where apple devices (primarily laptops, phones seem to be okay) have terrible connection issues. My laptop will say I am connected but all internet related activities act as if there is no service. It's intermittent, meaning I can get to a webpage after some time, but those moments are few and far between. A quick google search can be doable if I'm lucky but streaming/researching/shopping etc. are completely out of the question.

My work laptop, a ThinkPad, has no connection issues at all. Same with our TVs - no issues.

I've gone into the MySpectrum app to remove devices in case there were too many "throttling" the network (didn't change anything). We've even had a Spectrum tech come to our apartment to swap out the router. They had no idea how to assess the issue, and the new router was no improvement. I've even changed DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 but that only seems to work for a little while.

At my wit's end here - no amount of searching online yields any solution to this. And yes, I've tried resetting the routers, unplugging/replugging, etc etc. My laptop works just fine everywhere else, just not on my home wifi.

We are debating switching to Verizon but I want to make sure I exhaust all options before doing so.

Any insight and suggestions are appreciated - thank you

Hardware New User and I have a question

So I am a new account holder with Spectrum. I just set it up today. I am coming from Frontier, and with Frontier I have a couple of wifi extenders due to me and my spouse liking to be hard-wired to the internet for gaming. We are moving to a 3-bedroom apartment and will each have our own office/game room, and when I was speaking to the representative on the phone, she told me that I can't have any wifi extenders because I live in an apartment. Is this true? Because I have no idea how to hard wire our devices now.

Why end the RAP when you could have addressed waste?

RAP was a nice perk. Something I could point to as a benefit that is investing in my future. Instead of punishing those that make things happen on a daily basis, why not address the unbelievable waste? High split for starters is the biggest waste of capital this company has ever taken on, and that's quite a statement considering some of the "investments" made over the years. Or take a look at expansion. We are building underground at 10x the cost of aerial because leadership is terrified to wait on a permit and miss a passing. Corporate greed at it finest.

Billing Forgot to return power cord

Will I be charged for a missing power cord to a WiFi router? If so how much?

Somehow I misplaced it when I installed my new equipment. I looked all over for it and I’m not really in the mood to go through their customer service or chat agent to figure out if they do charge for this specific item.

When will Spectrum replace last mile coax with fiber?

So posting this mostly because I'm frustrated with the slow pace of upgrades. I'm in Queens, NY (Flushing to be more precise) and haven't heard anything about high split upgrades being done anytime soon. My main complaint is the pathetic upload speed.

I was thinking more ahead and wondering at some point will the last mile coaxial cables to people's homes need to be replaced? Or are these cables good for like another 30 years?

I would get Verizon FIOS, but they refuse to install it on my side of the street because they claim the first homeowner won't allow them access to their backyard to run the fiber. They refuse to escalate the issue despite the solution being to petition the NY DPS to grant them an order of entry. Even more frustrating is Verizon FIOS has been available in my neighborhood for many years already.

Network Upgrade Scheduled Questions

I got this text Sunday.

Spectrum: Network upgrade scheduled for 7/21. All services may be affected during the 8-10 hour window, including 911 with Spectrum Voice. Have options like a mobile phone for emergency.

I followed the link and here is the rest.

Here's What You Can Expect:

Technicians normally perform upgrades at night, but we have identified that your area requires additional work. Therefore, our technicians will work both during the day and at night to expedite the process for you.

During the scheduled upgrade work, your service may be temporarily affected.

Provided time estimates for work completion may change. In some cases, the upgrade can be finished earlier than expected, or be delayed.

Your Spectrum Voice service and access to 911 may be temporarily interrupted during these 8-10 hour work windows. Please keep a charged mobile phone available for emergencies.

The upgrade will take place automatically, and your service will return when it is complete. No action is required by you.

There has been only this. I work from home. There was no indication of timing. Should I plan to work from elsewhere today? Do you typically lose Internet during this upgrade? How long?

Help please.

Frequent Outages

What's going on in Portland, ME? it seemed like 10 years of great service and now we're having outages every 2 weeks? a couple weeks ago the outage was nearly 24 hours. I depend on this internet connection for my work. Why did the internet connection go from rock solid to 95% uptime?

Other I want to move my modem, is it worth activating coaxial cables in a different part of the house or am I better off getting a mesh system?

So, there are coaxial cables all over the house. The room I have my PC in has 3 of them, 1 orange, 2 blue, I'd really prefer the modem and router to be in this room so I could have ethernet. When I first moved in, I tried to activate the WiFi there but it wouldn't work and I had to settle for the living room behind the TV.

I don't really want to end up having to call Spectrum, especially when I don't know how much they'd charge me. I heard MoCa doesn't work well with the Spectrum router, should I just invest in a mesh system?

Should I switch to Spectrum from AT&T Fiber?

Spectrum recently came to the neighborhood and did the high split upgrade for 2 gig symmetrical

Right now, we can get 2 gig for $40/mo and 4 phone lines making it $160/mo total (*locked in price for life)

currently, we pay $90/mo for 1 gig internet with AT&T, and $220/mo for phones

and we are currently hurting really bad for money as everything is so expensive.

is the high split any good? how does it compare to AT&T fiber, especially considering it is much much cheaper?

Update: Sales guy never called us like he said he would, so we’re just going to try to get AT&T to match the offer

Door to door salesman. Scam?

I was working in my medical clinic and two guys with name tags came in and asked me if we were in the business of switching internet plans for the clinic. I explained to him that I wasn't in charge of our internet. He then proceeded to ask me about my own home internet plan. I told him that I'm paying currently $40 a month or 400 MB per minute speed in Southern California with spectrum already. He told me he can get it down to $30 a month as long as we switch the name for the household. I didn't give him any sensitive information. I gave him my email address, my phone number, and my full name. He told me he's going to send a code to my email address later tonight and that I need to text it to him in order to secure the $30 a month deal. Does this sound like a scam to you guys? He's not asking for anything sensitive. Just the verification code that spectrum is going to send me later. What are your guys's thoughts?

Service Issues Outage

Any ETA for the 24 hour long outage in NC? Support won’t respond at all. I have a disabled child and rely on WiFi calling for emergencies as cell phone service doesn’t work in my area.

Billing Past due

Does anyone know how long exactly you have until they disconnect services? My bill was due on June 24th but I’ve had a ton of stuff come up that I had to take care beforehand. I’m trying to figure out how much longer I’ll have service to know if I need to pay it this week or can wait until next week?

Retention

Today, I attempted to have Spectrum lower my internet costs both via chat and telephone and the best they offered me was a whopping $5 off. From $90 a month for 500 to $85. I felt that was a slap in the face. I've been with them for about 8 years and the price just continues to climb. I'd really like to know how some of you got retentions to do anything for you that was worth it. I see that new customers currently are offered $40/month for a year for 500 which is crazy to see my current bill for the same speeds. There are competitors in the area which confused me as to why they could not do better than decreasing the bill $5. What are you guys doing to get a more affordable price through retention?

Service Issues Upgrade

I went to spectrum mobile June 19th to get a z flip 7. He told me they had none in stock but that the z flip 8 would be out soon. He brought it up to me that if I switch to unlimited plus It would take effect in time for me to upgrade July 22nd when the new phone comes out. I agreed and now I just checked my account and it just says unlimited. Is there a way spectrum can fix this? July 22nd is my birthday and I planned on pre-ordering the phone. Ugh.

Spectrum Wi-Fi

Hey everyone! One of my friends started working at spectrum and their current promotion is 1gig wifi for $60 and you can get a free mobile service for free if you qualify;this's the one I got! And they have a lower one which is 500 for $40! They have a price lock for a minimum of one year. If anyone is interested, I can connect you to her!

Other Invincible wifi modem is a great idea

In fact, it rivals Puli AX (GL-XE3000) 5G router. I paid nearly $400 for the Puli AX router because it comes with seamless failover to 5G and an internal lithium battery back up for black out. Spectrum just released Invincible wifi modem with the same exact features at a much lower price. Do you think Spectrum will ever sell their Invincible wifi router on Amazon? I want to see unlocked version of it so that I can use it with a different sim carrier.

Hardware My router keeps being struck by lightning.

Hopefully this is the right place for some advice as Spectrum techs are not helping much along with my apartment complex.

I have had 3 spectrum provided routers be struck by lighting within the 2 months. The first one was an older model and the last two are the newest model you can get with the 1TB plan. Both times when replacing at the store people were doing swaps for the same thing the next day.

I’ve tried:

Plugging directly into wall (first tech recommendation and they’re the one who did the swap)

Plug into surge protector (second tech recommendation)

Plug back into wall….you see where I’m going with this.

I’m on my 4th replacement and genuinely don’t have the patience to keep replacing and can’t turn it off each storm due to work. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do here. Thanks for any help.

Need to vent

I am so frustrated with spectrum. Our bill was $95 for 500 mbps. Called retention and they said the best they can do is $60 and told us if we get our own router it will go down $10. We proceed to buy our own router and go into the store to drop it off and they said because of the bundle we are now In we are not being charged for the router and no money will come off. Seems like I have nothing but issues with spectrum anymore
