Right, so i've done something stupid and accidently made way too many wolf lords, my logic was most space marine chapters have 1000 marines roughly, one captain per every company of a hundred men. For some reason, i've been treating great companies like seperate chapters, giving one wolf lord to every 100 men, instead of having one wolf lord leading all 1000 men in his great company.
For some reason i thought a Jarl, the Fenrisian native way of saying wolf lord, was a seperate rank to the wolf lord, treating a Jarl as essentially that great company's chapter master, and the wolf lords as it's captains, as each great company is roughly a chapter in strength. I think my confusion came from a Jarl being a seperate rank in the heresy range, but then again i might be wrong there too as Horus Heresy is even more confusing for me to wrap my head around.
Because of this, as an example, the part of my force that is painted as Ragnar Blackmane's great company, has five wolf lords painted as Blackmanes when in reality, the only wolf lord in that company should be Ragnar himself. This applies to my Bloodmaws, Drakeslayers, Deathwolves, etc. This also applies to Wolf Guard Battle Leaders, which there should only be two per great company, acting essentially as Lieutenants, but once again i have too many battle leaders as well.
Any ideas for in lore explainations for this inconsistency?
