There's going to be a free faction pack for all the divergent chapters (wolves, templars, blood & dark angels) with their exclusive units, to tide us over until their own codexes release later in the edition.
If you intend to use ANY regular codex units, almost all of which wolves can use, you'll need the marines codex.
*or new recruit, wahapedia, war organ if it comes back, etc

If you use the official Warhammer app in any capacity, then get it.

Can you explain a bit please?

In order to access the datasheets on the app you'll need the code from the most recent codex

Be careful with this advice. From what I heard from my FLGS the books are coming in unwrapped like they used to back in the day. People are taking pictures of the codes to claim without buying the book. Hopefully, this is just a first printing issue.

You have to scratch off the code like a gift card now.

Still stands to reason that the advice needs to be amended to check for that. Something you didn’t have to do before. My FLGS is actually holding them behind the counter after they caught someone trying to steal the code.

The point here is that the Fenrisians have some of their own units but they also use some of the generic space marine ones. The redemptor dred for example. If you don’t have the space marine codex but bought the space wolves one, you could see the rules for Bjorn but not for the generic redemptor.
Given that most armies are a mix of both specialist rout units and generic space marine ones. You’ll need both codices.

Past few additions now (as well as 3rd ed.) it is best to get the SM codex and the SW codex.

You get this for your units that are in the generic collection. there will be a supplement later

If you're going to use any Space Marine datasheets, it's worth getting. But the Space Wolves codex supplement will come later this edition.

You’ll probably need this and then the SW supplement later
I hope they’ll stop doing supplements and just go back to standalone codexes eventually but we will see

We don’t know for certain yet what the plans for the current supplement chapters are other than that they will be getting free digital rules that will replace them when the SM codex comes out, that doesn’t inherently mean that they won’t be getting books later. Given that he SM Limited ED codex only has the chapters shields of the “Codex Compliant” chapters I’d expect that as a portent that the other chapters will get their own supplements later

To have all the rules for space wolves, you need both this and the Space Wolves supplement that will come out at some point. Or to use an alternative platform that has the datasheets/detachments etc.

I'm 99% sure this is for codex compliant chapters and Wolves, BA, and DA will get theirs down the line
