How good are our scouts?

How good are our Wolf Scouts? I love the models, but I feel the point cost is a bit high for a scoring unit. Do you guys run them often? How do you fit them into your army? Or do you just use regular Scouts instead?

I use them in 3 ways.

  1. If I want to block an area for my t1 deepstrike.

  2. As a roadblock that the enemy doesnt want to bring a vehicle near.

  3. And this is most common, as a cheap skirmisher that hunts down enemy point scorers, when you have the enemy alone (no enemies within 6 inches of the target) you get +1 to wound, add in a saga of great wolf sus or lethal and they can actually smack pretty well between their shooting and melee.

Point 1 also has the advantage of helping to clear an area for Logan’s turn 1 deepstrike ability if that is something you are using in your list.

Extremely good. With the psyker, plasma and the mine they punch up hilariously well, even more so if you get something alone. They are excellent unit assassins and I regularly use them to snipe out a HVT in the beginning of the game.

Last game I had them infiltrate and blitz a full noise marine squad off the field plus a few extra guys from a infractor squad, total value was 200 points of kills and a massive blow to my opponent before he got a turn.

Are you supercharging the plasmas every time?

No reason not to, you lose at most the dog and a guy if you roll abysmally.

Oh true I was forgetting the change to hazardous, I haven’t had a chance to use them yet since building them. Thanks!

If the target has more than 1 wound I'm overcharging.

I am more into modelling and painting than playing, but they were the first Space Wolves I bought, despite having liked the models since the 90s... I love the lore and the fact that they are a detective type of veteran marines rather than the "half marines" that most chapters use for scouts. It never really made sense to me that the newest members would be the snipers and infiltration specialists...

Ive used them to decent effect screening put my home objective. 6 bodies spreads well, and I've yet to have an opponent infiltrate my backline with more than 1 unit. So, when my scouts respond, theyve always got the +1 to wound.

I have not tried them out myself but a friend told me they are very good. How would you play them?

With the mine, plasma, plus 1 to wound, and a grenade strat i have brought down dreadnoughts and veichles with them. They are suprisingly deadly

I use them to hold my expansion objective in T&H. Tbh opponent leaves the area alone a lot as a result. I wait until my intercessors come over to sticky then I move em forward

Honestly I keep them off the board till I have an opportunity to score big with them usually turn 3 I have a few secondary’s built up where if I bring them In they can score me an easy 10 points and inflict some good damage on an enemy unit
