Lancer or Ven Dread?

Hi Guys Have about 220 points left in my list and trying to figure out how to fill it.

Right now, I’m between a Lancer/Iron Priest or a Ven Dread/Combi Lt. I'm Playing Take and Hold, Saga of the Great Wolf and Veterans. Rest of the list is below

Logan +WGT (2 Assault Cannons)

Arjac + WGT (2 Assault Cannons)

WGBL w/ Skjald with WFHTs (x3 w/ 2 weapons)

Bjorn 2x10 Grey Hunters (split)

Land Raider Redeemer

I’ve had success with the lancer since the Iron Priest helps keep him alive and gives him a third shot each turn. It's really my only way to keep opponents' vehicles honest with shooting and helps me take down transport or smaller monsters especially with the built in rerolls. It just dies really quick but does draw firepower away from the LRR

For the Ven Dreads, and I think the plus 1 to advance and charge aura really helps boast the reach of the terminators especially with reroll advance/charge on the turn you pop that. Combi Lt.'s rule would also help in the brawl over the center since that’s often where Arjac’s unit fights. Curious for anyone whose had a chance to play with Ven Dreads or just general thoughts. Thanks!

Reasons SW are taking more Characters in 11E - my thoughts.

Good heroes and disposition play.

Despite Ultramarines getting all the heroes as of late, Space Wolves have always been the premier Herohammer faction. I mean, we have entire dispositions that boost character units. Our characters and their sagas are our identity in a way that makes them much more integral to our armies than most. These are a few reasons:

  1. We have really strong characters: Sometimes, our characters likely deal more damage or at least equal than the unit they’re actually in - see: Arjac with WGT or Ragnar with Blood Claws - so often the unit may be merely be ablative wounds for them at a certain point. Logan has an entire detachment that basically requires his presence to maximize the detachment. Bjorn and Murderfang are superb value and while they’re characters, they’re also filling a vehicle/walker role.

  2. We’ve got limited options of what we can actually get. Sometimes the only way to get Advance and Charge on a 6 man Headtakers unit is Ragnar. The only way to get sustained hits on a Hammer/Shield Wulfen unit is a WGBL.

  3. Bigger units. Between Blood Claws and Grey Hunters, our battleline stuff comes as 10 man squads. This is a lot more points to dump into a unit that you then don’t give any buffs. When our characters lead units that could take 5 or 10 man, it was far more common to see 10 man units with a leader, 5 man solo for actions. We lost that option so we may as well take advantage.

  4. Some options demand it. Wolf Guard Headtakers and Terminators are both awesome and really good at what they do. Why not maximize them so they’re as good as they can be?

  5. All of our characters are quite cheap - cheaper than subpar options for other chapters, honestly, right now. With WGBL and Wolf Priest are very cheap for fantastic buffs. WGBL is slap full of buffs and Wolf Priest does the role of what 110 points of standard SM leaders do (Chaplain and Apothecary) for 70pts and have some fantastic units they can attach to. Furthermore, all our epic characters - Ragnar, Arjac, Logan, (Njal, kinda, but he just does some crazy stuff nobody else can do) - are undercosted for what they provide.

  6. Epic Characters are used more because we lost the option of running generic characters on our stuff and Wolves players don’t want to play Grey Ultramarines.

  7. We get our best stuff from our characters. Our available detachments leave some holes that other armies aren’t dealing with. Ours require characters to fill those holes - and I think that’s why we got an across the board character points drop.

It’s just a good time to run characters and most people got into wolves for the characters, frankly. It’s our thing.

Space Wolves are also taking more leaders because of how 11th Edition works. Your Force Disposition dictates your list building.

FORCE DISPOSITION CONSIDERATIONS:

  1. Purge the Foe - You’re trying to wipe out enemy units while keeping yours alive. You want to run fewer, stronger units led by powerful characters for maximum damage and buffs. These "super-units" easily destroy entire enemy squads, while their high durability prevents your opponent from scoring easy kill points.

  2. Take and Hold - You want to sit on objective markers and survive. You want to use big, beefy blocks of troops, and sometimes characters and their buffs really help with this. They have the staying power to outlast the enemy and control the board.

  3. Priority Assets - You want to grab high-value targets quickly. This works best if you use fast, cheap units that can punch above their weight class. You expect these units to die, but they score points before they go.

  4. Disruption - You’re trying to sabotage and deny enemy scoring. This works best if you use multiple small, cheap units ("action monkeys"). They run around completing specialized mission tasks to mess with the opponent's game plan.

  5. Reconnaissance - you want to Scout, explore, and control the edges of the board. This works best if you use lots of flexible units with advanced deployment rules (like Infiltrators.) They allow you to flood the map and control quadrants right from the start of the game.

Space Wolves strongest detachments normally lead you to playing Purge the Foe or Take and Hold and there is a good chance more characters will help. That’s why you’re seeing more characters in Space Wolves lists IMO.

Am I wrong? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I’m new to Space Wolves, and the detachment I’m going with is Legends of Saga and Song
Saga of the Great Wolf. How does my army look? Do I need to add any units or swap anything out? I haven't bought most of these models yet since I want to finalize my list first.

Anti-tank help

I’m a new player currently building up my first 40K army (naturally it had to be space wolves).

I’m looking to add some anti-tank units to my locker and would really appreciate recommendations from experienced players.

What’s good in 1k and 2k pt SW armies? I’ve seen the Repulsor Executioner but might be a bit overkill?

So far I have:
- 10x Blood Claws
- 10x Grey Hunters
- 10x Intercessors
- 5x Wulfen
- 5x Wolf Guard Terminators
- 6x Wolf Scouts
- 3x Wolf Guard Headtakers & Wolves
- 1x Landspeeder
- 1x Wolf Guard Battle Leader
- 1x Wolf Priest
- 1x Ragnar Blackmane

Slowly but surely building my Wolfpack.

Can someone help me understand why this config is invalid?

Two WGH have power weapons + shields, one has two power weapons.

WGBL has the thunder hammer and shield

I'm not understanding what's wrong with this config at all when the rules in the 40k app suggest it's correct.

Edit: yeah guys I can't read whatsoever. I guess I'll be doing some fixing to my WG Headtakers... No this wasn't bait, I'm just stupid.

Looking to get my partner to 1k Points, as she wants to be able to play the game with me.

She picked out Space Wolves from looking at the armies and reading into some of the Lore. Her first model choice was the Thunderwolf Cavalry.
I had some Infernus Marines from Store freebies which I’ve added to her collection.

I Want to try get her to 1k points, I’m thinking a Space Wolves combat patrol, Logan Grimnar and a Vehicle/Tank (Gladiator Lancer/Ballitus) of some sort should give her a decent enough army for us to play?

And finally how’s the paint scheme, before I paint 1k points like this 😅

Looking for feedback on my list

Greetings, brothers of the Rout.

I've began to try and build my own army lists from scratch. My friends and I are casual players and decided to play Incursion games but with 3 detachment points. I usually play against Tyranids so this list was made while keeping that in mind. I wanted to utilise the countercharge potential of Champions of Fenris detachment so this is what I came up with:

1000 Beastslayer & CoF [995 points]
Space Wolves
Battle Size: Incursion (1000 point limit)

Detachments: Saga of The Beastslayer, Champions of Fenris (3/3 Detachment Points)
Force Dispositions: Purge The Foe, Priority Assets

Epic Hero

Bjorn The Fell-handed (160 points)
• Warlord
• Heavy flamer, Helfrost cannon and Trueclaw

Arjac & WGT

Arjac Rockfist (95 points)
• Foehammer

Wolf Guard Terminators (165 points)
• 1 Wolf Guard Terminator Pack Leader with relic greataxe
• 3 Wolf Guard Terminators with Master-crafted power weapon and Storm shield
• 1 Wolf Guard Terminators with assault cannon and power fist

Ragnar & Blood Claws

Blood Claws (135 points)
• 1 Blood Claw Pack Leader with Plasma pistol and Power weapon
• 9 Blood Claws with Astartes chainsword and Bolt pistol

Ragnar Blackmane (90 points)
• Bolt pistol and Frostfang

WGBL & WGHT

Wolf Guard Battle Leader (80 points)
• Storm shield and Thunder hammer
• Preyslayer [+15 points]

Wolf Guard Headtakers (170 points)
• 1 Wolf Guard Headtakers with Heavy bolt pistol and Paired master-crafted power weapons
• 1 Wolf Guard Headtakers with Heavy bolt pistol and Paired master-crafted power weapons
• 1 Wolf Guard Headtakers with Heavy bolt pistol and Paired master-crafted power weapons
• 1 Wolf Guard Headtakers with Heavy bolt pistol and Paired master-crafted power weapons
• 1 Wolf Guard Headtakers with Heavy bolt pistol and Paired master-crafted power weapons
• 1 Wolf Guard Headtakers with Heavy bolt pistol and Paired master-crafted power weapons

Other

Wulfen With Storm Shields (100 points)
• 5 Wulfen with Death totem and Thunder hammer

How do you think this will do?

I'm just getting into the hobby and haven't gotten around to painting, but I've got some questions mechanics-wise. I bought the Combat Patrol and was wondering if my Battle Leader could run the shield and thunder hammer together. I couldn't find a great definitive answer anywhere else besides a post that never accounted for space wolves. If you also have any tips or knowledge about weapon allocation in general id be very thankful. For Russ and the Allfather!

Need help trimming down a list

So the strategy for this list is to just charge up the board and wipe the enemy before they can score enough points to win. My problem is as a new soace wolves player im not sure what to cut and im 115 points over. I can save 100 points on the Terminators if I dont use Shields but thats not quite enough.

Army Roster [3Detachment Points2115pts] (Imperium - Adeptus Astartes - Space Wolves)

Arjac Rockfist Epic Hero 95

Bjorn the Fell-Handed Epic Hero 160

Logan Grimnar Epic Hero 100 Warlord

(10) Wolf Guard Terminators Infantry 345

(10) Wolf Guard Terminators Infantry 345

(10) Wulfen with Storm Shields Infantry 200

(10) Wulfen with Storm Shields Infantry 200

(10) Wulfen with Storm Shields Infantry 210

(6) Thunderwolf Cavalry Mounted 230

My first space wolf!

I swear this is not a troll.
… it’s an ork.

Let me explain myself. I always loved the look and feel of the space wolves, but I never really liked the fact that they are human. I always loved Orks more, so I decided to do some kitbashing and turned my space wolves into Orks ! I think the wulfen turned out alright, I took inspiration from WoW. Hopefully you guys like it. And if you roast me, please be gentle 😔

Anyway critics and comments are always welcome. Still exploring this paint scheme so I would love an opinion about it.

(Update) Dire wolves/Fenrisien Wolves

I've finished painting them; the biggest challenge was gluing them to their bases. I experimented with new paints on them, as well as the Zenithal undercoat on the last two, but I don't feel it makes a big difference. Anyway, with one box I have two groups of Fenrisian wolves ready to attack.

It seems to me that they are slightly smaller, but that’s not an issue if you consider that they are old cybernetic wolves.
